Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Julie and Donald were in his office, what was he doing that annoyed her?

Answer: staring

He said that he couldn't help staring at her because she was so beautiful. Too bad he didn't feel that way when he was married to her - maybe he wouldn't have had so many affairs.
2. Someone said their alibi was that they were seeing Linda Tyler in a play. Whose alibi was this?

Answer: Paul McBride

Julie asked Paul if he had kept his ticket stub (which he hadn't). When Julie checked out the alibi, it turned out that Linda Tyler had been out sick and the understudy went on. Paul was actually paying off a guy who said he had become very ill while working at a local mine.
3. What had Julie left at Donald's house that he returned at the courthouse?

Answer: Lipstick

Donald walked up to Julie while she was talking with Ben and said that she had left the lipstick at his house the night before, making it look like she had spent the night with him. After Donald walked away, Julie quickly told Ben that nothing had happened between the two.
4. After Donald returned Julie's possession at the courthouse, what did she say to Ben?

Answer: "Donald is driving me crazy."

Poor Julie, Donald was trying to do everything in his power to sabotage her relationship with Ben, win her back and win the case all at once. But, in the end, Donald would lose the case, Julie would show him the door and she and Ben were as good friends as they had ever been.
5. When Julie asked the judge if Ben could continue the questioning, what did the prosecuting attorney say?

Answer: "Why change horses in midstream?"

Donald was objecting to every other word that Julie said. Ben got so upset that he had an outburst and yelled at Donald for not allowing her to complete a thought. After the judge yelled at Ben, Julie went over to him and whispered into his ear then asked the judge if Ben could continue where she had left off. Donald had so shaken Julie that he wanted her to continue so she would mess up.
6. Why did Ben say Donald had made so many objections?

Answer: He wanted Julie to lose.

After all of the things Donald had been doing, then Julie's remark that he was driving her crazy, Bern had had enough after he objected so many times. So he walked over to Donald right after he was allowed to continue the questioning and 'had a talking to' Donald.
7. What did Ben say he would do if Donald treated him the way he had treated Julie?

Answer: "I'll put this table on top of you."

A few minutes later, Donald objects to something Ben said so Ben goes over and starts to lift up the table.
8. After Ben started where Julie had left off, Donald objects again. What excuse does Ben give to the judge as to why he went back over to the prosecution's table?

Answer: admiring the woodwork

Ben quickly put the table down. But that was all Ben needed, Donald didn't try to pull the same trick on Ben that he had pulled on Julie.
9. What had the person who had written the memo type instead of the question mark?

Answer: 3/4

And it was fixed with correction fluid. When asked to type up the memo in court, John Grady made the same exact mistakes. The other piece of evidence against John Grady was the audiotape of the meeting. Danny, the man who was taping the meeting, had a watch that beeped on every half-hour (the watch annoyed John).

However, John's voice wasn't heard on the tape for several minutes around 8:30. Also, Skip and Danny (the other two people at the meeting) remember that John had left to get a folder around that time.
10. Who was the real killer?

Answer: John Grady

John had killed Abe Forrester because Abe threatened to drop John's column. John then killed Abe before 8 and typed up a memo using Abe's manuel typewriter. At 8:00, John went to his meeting (which was being audiotaped). A little bfore 8:30, John left the meeting (said he was going to get a folder) and dropped the memo into the chute. That's why the police said Abe was alive at 8:27 - the memo had arrived at that moment and everyone assumed that Abe had written it himself.
11. What was Julie's reply to Donald's ""We need to to talk about last night"?

Answer: "We need to talk about what you did in court."

His reply to her statement was "That was just business." Donald was still trying to get Julie back. But apparently the way he had treated her in court made her that much stronger and determined to get him out of her life.
12. What is one of the things that Julie had NOT done with Donald the night before the case ended?

Answer: went to dinner

"You had said 20 minutes. And you had me out ther without a car." Then, she got hungry and they had supper. This led to an argument, she cried then did the dishes. "No wonder I don't miss being married to you."
13. Who had Donald NOT had an affair with?

Answer: Alto in the church choir

"I know you love me, Donald. But you also love Sheila, your law clerk, and my best friend Marjorie, and her friend Dorie, and the soprano in the church choir. I never knew her name."
14. Who walked out on the marriage: Julie or Donald?

Answer: Julie

It still hurt him that she had walked out on him. So this time, Julie told him he could walk out the door (of the courtroom). He did and we never heard from Donald again.
15. Donald said "You'll never have with anybody else what we had." What was Julie's reply?

Answer: I hope not

Donald then walked out. Ben came over and she said "Let's go home" as they left the courtroom together.
