Dalto is the first choice to replace Fancy. She is abrasive and ball-busting to nearly every person in the precinct. John the PAA explains to the precinct that due to her manner, she had earned the nickname "The Winemaker" for her ability to stomp on grapes. John explains the nickname is metaphorical. Gibson briefly becomes leader of the squad in later seasons. Rodriguez would take over for Dalto who is quickly re-assigned after Fancy intervenes. Rodriguez is not the true successor to Fancy, as Dalto had the job first before she is disgracefully re-routed.

Her overbearing leadership made too many enemies in the 15th Precinct. Dalto was played effectively by actress Denise Crosby. She is the granddaughter of Bing Crosby.

Gibson set Cynthia and Sipowicz up shortly after the shooting death of Sylvia. Sipowicz was still mourning the death of his wife and Cynthia had not dated for years. She had been taking care of a sick relative that had passed away after a long illness. Their brief relationship is compromised by Cynthia and Gibson sharing too much information about Sipowicz.

Diane runs into the doctor while working a case. She and he had had friendly interactions of hope and positivity when Bobby was first admitted to the hospital. Once Bobby dies, Diane mourns for s while. When her partner Jill is compromised, Diane kisses Denby to get information on Jill's ex-husband and their drug smuggling ventures. Diane then scorns and rebukes Denby and ultimately shoots Denby to death in a hostage standoff. Diane dates Danny before the doctor. Diane has dealings with Bobby's former attorney and also relatives and the former tenant but dates Bobby's former doctor.

Donna was a huge Rangers fan. She was a season ticket holder and proudly adorned her work area with a Rangers pennant. Greg and Donna start dating after they go ice skating together. Hockey and ice skating and things they have in common. Donna also used to date a hockey player that used to be on the Rangers. She never mentions her affinity for any other sports teams.

Benita and Bobby have a brief romance after bonding and sharing information about a case. When Benita pushes things too far and jeopardizes a sensitive case, Bobby cuts ties with her. Kanakaredes would go on to star in "Providence" and "CSI: NY". Brenneman played a murderous cop in season 1 and season 2 of "NYPD Blue" and her character was never a journalist or a reporter. Stringfield did not play a reporter or journalist; she played a lawyer. Turco portrayed a cop and never played a reporter or journalist. Benita is never mentioned again after Bobby cuts ties with her.

Played by Casey Siemazsko, Fraker is jealous of Rodriguez and also opposing what Rodriguez wants to do regarding a huge case. Fraker is first shown in earlier seasons and slowly unravels under the pressure of the job over time. Gibson never shoots anyone on camera in the entire series. Licalsi murders two mafiosos but never shoots at a police lieutenant. Jimmy Mayo kills Costas accidentally when the bullets were meant for Cullanan.

Andy is left to raise Theo on his own. This puts a lot of pressure on him because he never did much day-to-day work and taking care of Theo. He takes on his ex-wife Katie as a babysitter and also later employs John Irvin as a babysitter as well. Sylvia dies shortly after being shot accidentally by Jimmy Mayo.

Lou never shoots Sipowicz. James Sinclair is played by Daviel Benzali. Sinclair does humiliate Sipowicz on the witness stand once but never actually shoots Sipowicz. Giardella pays a prostitute to pick up Sipowicz and bring him to a hotel room where Giardella emerges and shoots Sipowicz multiples times. Giardella is played by Robert Costanzo who also has appeared in "Forget Paris" and "Total Recall".

He also has been a voice double for Danny DeVito. He also guest starred on "Friends" and "Joey" as the father of Joey. He has over 280 TV and movie credits.

James and Adrienne date briefly in season 2. James and Donna never date. The same goes for James and Dolores. James got along well with Donna and Dolores socially. James and Gina are attracted to each other from when they first meet. She is hired as the new PAA to succeed Donna.
