Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The two main characters in "Peep Show" are called Mark and Jeremy. What is the name of Jeremy's friend who runs a recording studio?

Answer: Super Hans

Super Hans is also Jeremy's band mate. He is a rather misguided creature who seems to believe he is an expert on everything, yet is actually a quite pathetic man with a crack cocaine habit.

As for the other options, the only Super Mac I can think of is Malcolm MacDonald, the legendary footballer who bagged at least one goal every two games for Luton Town, Newcastle United and Arsenal respectively.

Obviously a Big Mac is a hamburger from fast food chain McDonald's, and Big Hans I came up with because I remembered the lyrics to Violent Femmes' "Blister In The Sun". Well, ok it's "big hands I know you're the one" rather than Big Hans, but it's close enough!
2. What is the key element that differentiates "Peep Show" from other comedies?

Answer: You hear what the characters are thinking as well as saying

The internal dialogue in our two main protagonists' heads ranges from desperate - for instance when Mark bemoans to himself that the woman he loves has only been single for five minutes, and he's already unwittingly found her a new boyfriend - to ludicrous, such as when Jeremy is playing with a toaster and pontificating upon this dilemma - if his mum and dad were stuck inside it, which one he would rescue first?

The other options - I don't know of any recent comedies that were filmed in black and white, nor where you never see the main characters together, but the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller, along with "Coupling" actress Sarah Alexander, often appeared nude in their own show.
3. The object of Mark's desire in the first three series of "Peep Show" is office girl Sophie. Who, much to Mark's disgust, does she start dating - and briefly living with - in series two?

Answer: Jeff

Jeff is a macho Liverpudlian womaniser and is completely at odds with Mark's personality. You can't help but feel elated when he gets his comeuppance, Mark's internal voice saying it all: "Public humiliation - welcome to MY world".

Of the other options, obviously Jeremy is Mark's flatmate, Johnson is Mark's tough talking boss, and something of an idol to him, and Gog is someone who we learn was bullied at school - not least by Jeremy - but has now become far more successful than his former antagonist.
4. Which actor can boast an impressive comedic CV, having appeared in "Peep Show" as Jeff, as well as "The Office" and "Phoenix Nights" - three of the greatest sitcoms of modern years?

Answer: Neil Fitzmaurice

Perhaps the unsung hero of modern comedy, Fitzmaurice appeared in the first and last episodes of the original UK version of "The Office" (not including the specials). We see him playing a character called Alex, who is hired and then let go by the repugnant David Brent. He then appeared in "Phoenix Nights", playing Ray Von, an old school DJ whose song selection left a little to be desired, especially as the bulk of the people who frequented the Phoenix Club were old age pensioners!

Other options: Robert Webb himself boasts a healthy acting CV, having not only appeared as Jeremy in "Peep Show", but also starring in the acclaimed "The Smoking Room" as well as more mainstream comedies such as "My Family".

Canadian actress Rachel Blanchard most recently appeared in one of my other favourite comedies of recent years, "Flight Of The Conchords", playing Sally, the object of both Jemaine and Bret's affection. She also played the lead role of Cher in the television adaptation of the successful movie "Clueless".

Matt King is a well respected actor who has appeared in the likes of "Doctor Who", "The Bill" and "Star Stories", as well as a handful of UK films.
5. What song does Mark embarrassingly sing down the phone to leave a message on Sophie's answerphone?

Answer: Something Stupid

One of the most cringeworthy moments of the first series, Mark gets flustered when trying to think what to say to Sophie and ends up singing the words "and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like...I like you" into the receiver. It's hideously embarrassing, and especially uncomfortable for me to watch because that's exactly how I used to be when I was attempting to speak to women I was attracted to!

I chose the other options for various reasons - "Silly Love Songs", a number two hit for Wings in 1976, contains the line "I love you" as its main refrain, so that would have worked, whereas Lionel Richie's "Hello" and Blondie's "Hanging On The Telephone" made sense because of the situation.
6. What is the name of Jeremy's band, despite his objections?

Answer: The Hair Blair Bunch

It is only Hans who refers to their band as The Hair Blair Bunch. One of the other options I gave - Momma's Kumquat - was more agreeable to him, whereas The Swan and Tomato was the name Jeremy wanted to give to their pub in one episode.
The Orgazoid is one of Jeremy's musical heroes who turns up in an episode called "Handyman".
7. What is the name of the company that Mark works for?

Answer: JLB Credit

A company which specializes in loans, JLB Credit provides us with many of the main characters in "Peep Show". Alan Johnson is Mark's tough talking boss, hence Johnson's being listed as an option. Mark's arch rival Jeff and the love of his life, Sophie, also work at JLB.

As for the other two options, Corrigan is Mark's surname and Toni is an old flame of Jeremy's. She just happens to be married to a chap called Tony.
8. What is the name of the dog which Jeremy accidentally runs over in the episode "Holiday"?

Answer: Mummy

This episode was so gruesome and realistic that I think they should have followed the lead from "Amores Perros" and put a disclaimer at the beginning of the episode saying no animals were harmed! Anyway, the dog belongs to two young sisters who Jeremy and Mark are trying to chat up, and Jeremy unwittingly runs it over in the siblings' father's car. The girls were not there to see the tragic mishap, so he tries to burn the evidence and things only go downhill from there. It's truly horrible, but also probably one of the funniest episodes.

The other three options could all feasibly have been dog names too.
9. What is the name of the dance class that Mark attends with Jeremy, after Sophie invites him along?

Answer: Rainbow Rhythms

Labelled as a "bit of fun" by Sophie, Rainbow Rhythms is, ostensibly, a rather pretentious hippy commune which Mark unintentionally does his best to ruin the vibe of. Jeremy, on the other hand, gets sucked into it and meets his taboo breaking "future wife" Nancy at the sessions.

I thought the other three options also sounded a little like they could be dance classes too.
10. Mark marries Sophie at the end of series four.

Answer: True

Aah, isn't that nice? Well, no actually, as Mark soon realises that marrying Sophie, after all, was the worst mistake he'd ever made!
