Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Nightshifter"- In which city was the demon stealing identities and committing robberies?

Answer: Milwaukee

The episode opened with a very official "Breaking News" TV report from Channel 8 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The report covered the hostage situation inside the City Bank of Milwaukee.
2. "Nightshifter"- What did Ronald Resnick initially believe was responsible for the local robberies?

Answer: a ManDroid

Sam and Dean came to do an FBI "follow-up" interview with Ronald. They represented themselves to be Han Solo and Jack Ryan. Being a Sci-Fi geek, Ronald would have smelled something fishy if he had really read their badges. Harrison Ford portrayed both characters, Han and Jack, in several films.
Ronald did describe the "ManDroid" with a terminator like ability, to which Dean offered that it was more like the "T2" mimetic poly-alloy version. Ronald agreed happily with Dean's idea.
3. "Nightshifter"- Which song played during Sam and Dean's escape from the bank at the end of the episode?

Answer: Renegade

The Winchesters stole SWAT uniforms and made their way back to the Impala. The song played all way to the car, and through the end of the episode.
According to their website, Styx released "Renegade" on the album "Pieces of Eight" in 1978.
Lyrics:
"Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law
Law man has put an end to my running and I'm so far from my
home
The jig is up, the news is out
They finally found me
The renegade who had it made
Retrieved for a bounty
Never more to go astray
This'll be the end today
Of the wanted man"
4. "Houses of the Holy"- Sam witnessed what the other "killers" had witnessed, a bright light that was believed by them all to be an angel.

Answer: True

We first saw Gloria the hooker witness the angel. The next time we see her she is being interviewed in a hospital by Sam. It turns out that she was actually the second person to murder someone "on an angel's say so". Sam told Dean this a bit later. Sam witnessed the apparition himself, near the entombment of Father Gregory. Father Gregory had been murdered on the steps of the church two months earlier.
Zach confessed his belief after the murder he'd committed, but that was not shown on screen.
5. "Houses of the Holy"- Gloria killed a man with a skeleton in his basement, and Zach Smitt killed a potential pedophile. Who was Sam directed to kill?

Answer: a would be rapist

Gloria and Zach's murders both linked back to the same church, Father Gregory's church, Our Lady of the Angels. Sam and Dean questioned Father Reynolds there, learned of Father Gregory's death, and soon afterward Sam had his vision in the mausoleum.
When it came time for Sam to kill his would be criminal, Dean sent him to do a seance at Father Gregory's burial site while he went after the would be rapist. He saved the girl, but the would be rapist was killed anyway. Dean later admits that it may have been God's will.
6. "Houses of the Holy"- As seen on his headstone, what year was Father Thomas Gregory born?

Answer: 1969

The headstone read his name and the years 1969-2007. The year 2007 was a continuity mistake. Father Reynolds said that Father Gregory had died two months earlier. The episode aired on Feb. 1, 2007, and two months prior it was 2006.
7. "Houses of the Holy"- Father Reynolds was able to set Father Gregory at rest by speaking his last rites.

Answer: True

Earlier in the episode, Father Reynolds had explained that Father Gregory had died after being shot. The man had wanted his car keys. Reynolds told the Winchesters that he had not had time to read Gregory his last rites, as it happened too fast. Father Gregory had believed himself to be an angel.

He had answered Father Reynold's desperate prayers for help. Father Reynolds reminded Father Gregory's spirit that men cannot become angels. Then he read him last rites and the priest crossed over. All this was happening while Dean was saving the girl from the would be rapist and watching that man die from a pipe impalement.
8. "Born Under a Bad Sign"- Sam checks into the motel under the name of which famous musician?

Answer: Richard (Richie) Sambora

Dean had been calling around looking for Sam after he disappeared. Finally, Sam called him and that took Dean to a motel. Sam claimed to have no recollection of the previous few days, so Dean went in search of information. He found out that Sam had checked into the motel two days prior under the name Richard Sambora. Richie Sambora is a member of the musical group Bon Jovi, and married actress Heather Locklear in 1995. Dean mentioned that the scariest part of all of "this" was that Sam was a Bon Jovi fan. "Supernatural" has become known for a famous, and hard rocking, sound track, not that Bon Jovi didn't rock on many occasions.
9. "Born Under a Bad Sign"- Sam was possessed by an evil entity for much of the episode, but was it an evil he'd met before?

Answer: Yes

In the last third of the episode, the demon revealed itself to be the same one who'd possessed Meg Masters for much of season one. Sam, Dean and Bobby rid Meg of her demon at the end of season one, but she died as a result of much physical trauma sustained while possessed.
10. "Born Under a Bad Sign"- The demon seemed to fool no one. But who gave it a drink of holy water?

Answer: Bobby

Ellen Harvell made no appearance in this episode, but the demon located Jo in Duluth, Minnesota. Dean turned Sam's cellphone GPS on and tracked him to the bar Jo was working at in Duluth. The demon tried again to trick Dean into killing Sam, but Dean didn't fall for it. When it got close enough, Dean doused it with holy water. But, it was Bobby Singer, also a demon hunter, who gave the demon a beer with the holy water inside. That gave him a chance to tie Sam/demon to a chair, and wait for Dean to arrive for the exorcism. Dean also poured a bucket of water on the demon, which contained holy water.
Tied to a chair, under a devil's trap, the pair tried to free Sam of the female demon. Unfortunately, the thing had smartened up during its brief stay in hell. It had burned a binding link onto Sam's arm. Bobby had to mar the mark with a secondary burn in order to get the beast out of Sam.
In the finale scenes, as they are driving away, Dean says to Sam, "Dude you had that girl inside you for like a whole week. That's pretty dirty."
This comment finally made Sam crack a smile.
