Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Hollywood Babylon"- Sam and Dean were at the set of a movie, investigating mysterious deaths. The movie being made was a sequel to which fictional horror flick?

Answer: Hell Hazers

The film was called "Hell Hazers II: The Reckoning". Dean was infatuated with the female lead, Tara Benchley. Elizabeth Whitmere played Tara.
2. "Hollywood Babylon"- Since the episode was about a fictional version of Hollywood, there were many inside jokes. One of these was involving Regan Burns' portrayal of the character McG. What was McG's job on the set?

Answer: director

McG was the director of "Hell Hazers II". Regan Burns did a hilarious job on his parody of the real McG. McG, short for Joseph 'McGinty' Nichol, is one of the executive producers of "Supernatural". He also exec produced a few episodes of "The OC", possibly serving to supply the last name of Kirsten's father Caleb Nichol.

He directed the 2006 film "We Are Marshall", and was mentioned in a season three episode of "Six Feet Under", when Catherine O'Hara's character was obsessing over her failing career. Regan Burns is a great character actor and comedian, and you may remember him from his numerous guest spots on shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "CSI", and many countdown shows like "101 Celebrity Oops" and "50 Most Outrageous TV Moments".
3. "Hollywood Babylon"- While taking a tour of the studio lot, the Winchesters passed by the fictional town set of Stars Hollow. On which TV series did the tour guide say this town was set inside?

Answer: Gilmore Girls

Yes, another cute little inside joke by episode writer Ben Edlund. Jared Padalecki played Dean on "Gilmore Girls", which aired its final episode in May 2007. Ben has been writer and director on many projects. Among the short list is "Supernatural", "Angel", "Firefly" and "Point Pleasant".
4. "Folsom Prison Blues"- For whom did Sam and Dean get imprisoned inside Green River Detention Facility?

Answer: Deacon

The prison seemed to be haunted by the ghost of a man named Mark Moody. Mark, a serial killer, died of a heart attack inside the prison, just like the current round of victims. Deacon, who throughout was talked about as an old friend of John Winchester's, turned out to be a guard in the prison.

This was their way to get in, but not forced to stay inside. At this point, both of the brothers are highly hunted fugitives.
5. "Folsom Prison Blues"- Was the ghost killer a former inmate?

Answer: No

It turned out that this vengeful spirit was a woman who had worked in the prison. Nurser Glockner was an evil sort, who had euthanized many inmates in her time. She had made it appear as though they'd died of heart attacks, and after her death decided to continue in that trend. Sam and Dean were able to dig her grave, destroy her bones, save Deacon, and get away before their favorite FBI agent (Hendricksen) can find them. Fortunately for the men, their assigned counsel, Mara Daniels, sent the FBI to the wrong cemetery.
6. "Folsom Prison Blues"- How did the killer ghost actually die inside the prison?

Answer: from a crushed skull during a riot

Yes, crazy nurse Glockner had her skull crushed in during a riot that came after Moody's death. No real answer was ever given to the time line. The first inmates murders began, three months later the Winchesters were imprisoned there to find out the truth, and it was many years prior that Glockner had been killed.

There was a scene early in the episode that showed the release of something from Moody's old cell, which I'll assume was the trapped spirit of Glockner.
7. "What Is and What Should Never Be"- What type of demon was it that had Dean thinking he was in an alternate reality?

Answer: Djinn

The creature used people to sustain itself. It would capture a person, put a super whammy on them, and then slowly drain their blood until they died. While their blood was being drained, they'd experience life in a hypnotic coma state, imagining all sorts of things. In Dean's case, his mother was still alive, Sam and Jessica were engaged, and his father had died peacefully of a stroke.
Djinn's are sometimes referred to as a genie, and Islam are thought of as "fiery spirits shunned by the daylight".
Mackenzie Gray played the Djinn and "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki
reprised her role as Sam's girlfriend Jessica.
8. "What Is and What Should Never Be"- Was Dean's alternate reality girlfriend, Carmen, an exotic dancer?

Answer: No

In his fantasy/alternate reality, Carmen was a nurse. In reality, she was the woman in the magazine advertisement for El Sol beer. Michelle Borth played Carmen.
9. "What Is and What Should Never Be"- During the alternate reality, what did Dean need in order to get rid of the demon and the alternate reality?

Answer: silver knife and blood

Dean decided to "kill" himself and undo the alternate reality. As nice as some of his fantasy was, Dean realized that this new life had invalidated all the folks he and Sam had saved in the last two years. He needed a silver knife and lamb's blood to end the dream state.
10. "What Is and What Should Never Be"- What did Dean do to himself in the dream state that allowed himself to awaken?

Answer: he stabbed himself

When he had about all of the pieces figured out, the dream images of his mom, Sam and Carmen came to him and tried to convince him to stay as he was. He chose to wake up, and stabbed himself in the dream to make himself wake up. Dean later admitted to Sam that he had wanted to stay, but Sam assured him that their lives (and suffering) had all been worth it.
