Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the Season 5 "Quantum Leap" premiere, Sam leaps into various stages of a real person involved in the JFK assassination. Who does he leap into?

Answer: Lee Harvey Oswald

This episode, titled simlply "Lee Harvey Oswald", is an extra-long, drama filled episode that pulls together a range of factual events from Oswald's life. The episode has several firsts, the main one being that Sam leaps into seven different timeframes of the same person's life, and not all in chronological order.

The big reveal at the end of the episode is that Jackie Kennedy originally died in the assassination; so while Sam is unsuccessful in saving JFK, he is there all along for the purpose of saving Mrs Kennedy.
2. In the episode "Leaping of the Shrew", Sam finds himself on a deserted island as Niko, who is having to put up with a very challenging woman, Vanessa. What is the surprising end that allows Sam to leap?

Answer: They both remain stranded on the island

Vanessa is played by none other than Brooke Shields, who fits nicely into the role given her fame for the "Blue Lagoon", a movie about being stranded on a deserted island. The twist to the story is that Niko originally rescued both he and Vanessa given his navigational skills, but Sam's lack of these talents mean they have time to fall in love and stay on the island.
3. In the episode "Killin' Time", Al faces a difficult situation back in the waiting room involving the criminal, Leon Styles, that Sam has lept into. What happens?

Answer: Leon escapes from the waiting room

Sam leaps into a strange situation: he finds himself in the middle of a hostage situation where he is the person with the gun. Sam succeeds in his mission to save Leon from being killed without a trial (and later, after changing history, he also saves the mother and daughter).

But he can't leap until Leon is back in the safety of the waiting room, which Al finally manages to arrange. We see an interesting insight into the "futuristic" world outside the Quantum Leap project for the first time in this episode.
4. Season 5 features a trilogy of episodes, where Sam leaps into the lives of those in a small Louisiana town three consecutive times. Does he leap into the same person these three times?

Answer: No

Sam's three leaps are into a sheriff named Clayton Fuller, a man named Will Kinman, and a lawyer named Larry Stanton. All three epsiodes (and his quests) revolve around the life of a girl named Abigail Fuller and the belief that she is somehow responsible for the death of a young girl in the town.

In the third episode we discover that Sam has fathered Abigail's daughter (when he leapt into her fiancee). So Sam becomes a father.
5. In the epiosde "A Tale of Two Sweeties", Sam finds himself having to choose between the two wives of bigamist Marty Ellroy. Which wife does he end up choosing?

Answer: Neither

Marty Ellroy is a travelling salesman and is married to two women, each with two children. Sam gets very little guidance from Al and Ziggy as to which is the one to choose so he can leap out of this very stressful situation. In the end, he lets them meet each other and they both leave him. But in a final classic twist, a third family appears just as he leaps!
6. There are three episodes in this season where another leaper appears. What major difference do her quests have compared to Sam's?

Answer: She is destined to ruin lives

Sam first meets Alia when he leaps for the second time into the disabled boy Jimmy. She has leaped into Jimmy's brother's wife, and Sam is surprised to learn that history is changing and that relationship is falling apart. He discovers that it's the fault of the "evil leaper" (as she is known in later epsiodes). Alia fails to take the chance to kill Sam in this episode (despite the urging of her hologram friend) but she returns in later episodes. During the episodes "Return of the Evil Leaper" and "Revenge of the Evil Leaper" she leaps together with Sam, seemingly ending her run of evil leaps.

But we never do find out what happens to her though, as Sam's next leap is alone.
7. In the episode "Goodbye Norma Jean", Sam leaps into Marilyn Monroe.

Answer: False

Sam leaps into Marilyn's chauffer, Dennis Boardman. His quest is to save her from dying of an overdose, which he does, although it merely extends her life. It does mean that she ends up making one final film, "The Mistfits", which according to the 'original' history never happened.
8. Sam makes what kind of leap in the episode "The Leap Between The States"?

Answer: A leap before his own lifetime

Sam leaps into his great-grandfather, Captain John Beckett, during the American Civil War. He gets shot in the arm during a battle and takes refuge with a woman in Virginia, who ends up being his own great-grandmother. His quest is to help some slaves escape, while maintaining the blooming relationship between his great-grandparents to ensure his own birth happens.
9. In "Memphis Melody", which person in Elvis Presely's life does Sam leap into?

Answer: Elvis himself

Yep, Sam leaps into Elvis, the king himself, but a matter of days before Elvis was discovered. Sam's very challenging quest is to help change the life of a young lady in Elvis' life, Sue Anne Winters, while making sure Elvis still gets discovered. In true "Quantum Leap" style, it's a close call on both counts, but Sam finally makes it happen.
10. In the last ever episode of Quantum Leap, "Mirror Image", Sam finds himself looking at his own reflection for the first time in years. He completes his quest to save some trapped miners, and goes on to help Al by telling his first wife, Beth, that he is still alive to ensure she doesn't remarry. Following this positive twist, what is Sam's final outcome?

Answer: He never returns home

In an episode like no other, Sam finds himself surrounded by people with familiar names but different faces (like Al, the bartender) and he is in his own body on the day he was born (August 8, 1953). The bartender Al helps him work out that he has been able to return home any time.

In the end, Sam realises that it is his destiny to continue to help others, and he visits Beth. The ending is very much bitter-sweet, as we find out that Al and Beth are still happily married with four kids, but also that Sam never returns home.
