Dixie was shopping at Myrtle's Boutique one day and Tad entered. When he did, he came face to face with Dixie and said, "Heaven help me. I just forgot every woman I knew." Tad and Dixie started out as friends but they quickly fell in love with each other.

Opal got into a snit when she saw Sean Cudahy at the wedding and demanded he be arrested. However, this did not stop Tad and Dixie from marrying. They went on to marry two more times. Dixie's life came to an end in January of 2007 when she ingested peanut butter and banana pancakes laced with poison that were meant for Babe.

Behr, who was executive producer from 1989 to 1996, decided to have Tad and Dixie paired up since she noticed the chemistry between Knight and McClain. Behr was spot on with her judgment since Tad and Dixie became an instant hit for thousands of AMC fans. Behr was, and still is, considered to be one of the show's best executive producers, with many fans considering her tenure at "AMC" to be a golden age for the show. Under her watch, "AMC" was named "Best Soap" in Soap Opera Digest's annual "Best and Worst" edition for 1989, the show was a solid number two in the ratings from 1992-1995 ("AMC" managed to overtake the number one rated soap, "The Young and the Restless," for the first half hour of the show when Tad and Dixie reunited in Napa. However, it was just for that day only), the show won two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series in 1992 and 1994, "AMC" received a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing Team in 1996 (their Emmy for Writing Team in 1997 may have also been attributed to Behr's tenure as executive producer for "AMC"), and many beloved super couples began their run under Behr, such as Hayley and Mateo, Edmund and Maria, Noah and Julia, Trevor and Natalie, and Dimitri and Erica. Behr also served as Executive Producer of "As The World Turns" from 1996 to 1999 and was the Senior Vice President of ABC Daytime from 2000 to 2004.

Even though Will committed many naughty deeds, he never tried to break up Tad and Dixie. One of Will's biggest crimes was raping Gloria Marsh. He attempted to rape Hayley Vaughn but, on the night this happened, he was murdered by Janet Green via her crowbar.

Liza slept with Tad and recorded a conversation about their affair. Tad told Liza he slept with her because he wanted to do it. Marian got a hold of the tape and played it over the intercom of WRCW and Dixie heard it. Tad confessed to Dixie that he cheated on her with Liza and she divorced him. Dixie left Pine Valley for Pigeon Hollow, West Virginia and took JR with her.

Dixie got pregnant and she and Tad planned to name the baby Bess. Tad was hesitant about Dixie getting pregnant since she had heart problems but her doctor assured her it was alright to have a baby. Dixie miscarried and she overheard Tad say that it was for the best that their baby died since it could have put her health in jeopardy. Dixie blasted Tad but she made up with him.

Tad was thrilled when Dixie wrote him a letter and said she wanted to come back to Pine Valley and leave Switzerland behind. Tad got on a plane that went to Switzerland to get Dixie and bring her home but, before the plane took off, Brooke came on board and told Tad that Dixie had "died" in a car accident. Tad and Brooke still went to Switzerland and to Dixie's apartment to share memories of her. Dixie turned up alive in December of 2005.

David hired Dixie to be his administrative assistant and she also helped assist in running The Andrassy Foundation. This caused a rift between Tad and Dixie since Tad and David hated each other. Dixie slept with David at the 2001 Crystal Ball and Tad slept with Leslie Coulson but while he was under the influence of libidozone.

Tad brought Leslie Coulson back to town in late 2001 in order for her to help him get revenge on David Hayward. Leslie kidnapped Tad and he almost died but she was caught and sent to prison. Dixie decided that she wanted to divorce Tad since he brought Leslie back to town and felt he cared too much about getting back at David and this put her in danger since Leslie was psychotic. Dixie left town for Switzerland in February of 2002 but did not tell Tad that she was pregnant with his child.

Tad argued with David at his cabin, one day, and that was where he came upon Dixie. When he did, he immediately flashed back to many of the memories he shared with her. When he found out Dixie stayed away permanently to look for their daughter that she was coerced into giving up for adoption, Tad became upset with her.
