Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Santa meet the elves?

Answer: He was raised by an elf family.

When he was abandoned as a baby, some friendly animals took Santa to the door of an elf family named Kringle. They took him in and raised him as their own.
2. How did Santa learn to make such high quality toys?

Answer: The elves taught him.

The Kringle family that raised Santa had once been the First Toymakers to the King, and had a long history of quality toy making. Santa learned his skills from them while growing up.
3. Why does Santa say, "Ho, Ho, Ho!"?

Answer: He learned to laugh this way from seals who were his playmates.

Santa grew up playing with the local animals. The seals taught him how to have fun and to laugh, and he began to imitate the "ho ho ho" sounds that the seals made.
4. Why does Santa wear a red suit?

Answer: Tanta Kringle made it for him the first time he went to deliver toys.

The Kringle elf family all wore red suits with white trim. When Santa was finally ready to make his first trip into Sombertown to deliver toys to the children, Tanta surprised him with a matching red suit in his size.
5. Why did Santa start going down chimneys to deliver toys?

Answer: The Burgermeister ordered all home doors to be locked, so he had to use the chimneys to enter the houses.

In an effort to uphold his ban on toys, Burgermeister Meisterburger ordered that all homes must lock their doors at night. This, he believed, would prevent Kris from bringing more toys to the town's children.
6. Why did Santa start leaving toys in stockings?

Answer: To prevent the Burgermeister from finding and confiscating the toys.

Once the Burgermeister realized that Kris was leaving toys for the children in spite of the locked home doors, he ordered that all homes be searched, toys confiscated, and the offending households placed under arrest. Santa started leaving the toys in stockings so the Burgermeister and his soldiers couldn't find them.
7. How do Santa's reindeer fly?

Answer: They eat magic seed corn.

The reindeer first flew to help Santa, Topper, and Winter escape the Burgermeister's jail. Winter had lost most of his warlock powers, but still had a bit of magic seed corn left. The reindeer ate it and gained the ability to fly. Then, the threesome escaped by riding on the backs of the reindeer.
8. Why does Santa have a beard?

Answer: He grew it to look different from his image on the Burgermeister's "Wanted" poster.

After escaping from the Burgermeister's jail, Santa saw his picture on a "Wanted" poster. He grew the beard out so that he wouldn't be recognized and arrested again.
9. Why was the first Christmas tree decorated?

Answer: It was part of the decorations for Santa and Jessica's wedding.

Since Santa was an outlaw and couldn't get married in town, he and Jessica had a beautiful outdoor wedding. The fir trees were decorated to make the wedding festive. Winter used his remaining magical power to light up the trees.
10. Why did Santa decide to deliver gifts on Christmas Eve?

Answer: It was the holiest night of the year.

As Kris began receiving more and more letters from children requesting toys, he decided he would need to limit his gift giving to one night a year. He chose Christmas Eve, the holiest night of the year, as the perfect night to celebrate the spirit of giving.
