Answer: Metatron

Cas got permission to borrow Metatron from Heaven's prison in the hopes he could give them information on the Mark of Cain. Sam and Dean chained Metatron up in the bunker's dungeon and questioned him. Metatron had way too much fun, taunting them while being questioned, and told them they needed the First Blade to remove the Mark.

Then, Dean lost his temper with the angel that had killed him at the end of season 9. The result was that Metatron gave them no information and Cas lost credibility with the Angels for allowing Metatron to be harmed while in his possession. Metatron was returned to prison and Dean's situation continued on its downward spiral.

Answer: "Long Black Road" by Electric Light Orchestra

The song was the perfect accompaniment to the series of clips from the first nine episodes of the season - clips of Demon Dean singing karaoke and fighting, Sam frantically searching for his brother, Dean and Crowley together, the cat and mouse game the brothers played in the bunker, and bits and pieces with Cas, Crowley, and Rowena.

The last clip was the aftermath of Dean's massacre. This was the first time "Long Black Road" was used in the series.

Crowley thought the brothers were crazy for asking for the Blade. He pleaded with "moose" as "the sane one" not to let Dean get his hands on the blade again. Sam and Dean asked Crowley to retrieve it and hold it until they needed it, since Metatron claimed they would need it to get rid of the Mark of Cain. Rowena eavesdropped on the meeting, and had it retrieved by Guthrie.

She then killed Guthrie, and when caught by Crowley, framed Guthrie for the theft. Crowley's mother continued to isolate her son, convincing him he could not trust anyone, in order to advance her own position.

Answer: Bacon cheeseburger

In an effort to hold off the effects of the Mark of Cain, Dean attempted to eat healthy. And he was not happy about his diet - clearly missing his junk food and alcohol. He told his brother that once they got rid of the "demonic tramp stamp" he would be "back on the booze, burgers, and more booze."

Answer: Celeste Middleton

The brothers got more of Celeste Middleton's back story in the episode. "Dark Charlie" had won the war for Oz, but now was torturing people to find the drunk driver that killed her parents. Once she found him, she killed him. The brothers were not able to stop her, but they did help her to repair the split. To do so, though, Dean had to stop Dark Charlie, and the Mark of Cain caused him to lose control and hurt her. Charlie forgave him, but Dean could not forgive himself.

Answer: Book of the Damned

Sam told Charlie he had a lead on a way to remove the Mark of Cain, and it was this lore book. The book was supposed to be in a library in Tuscany. Charlie offered to track it down.

Answer: Hansel and Gretel

The witch and Hansel from "Hansel and Gretel" were turning adults into children, kidnapping them, and eating them. Knowing the traditional fairy tale, Sam asked the witch why she was not kidnapping adults. Sam asked, "What's with the whole fountain of youth"? She responded that nobody cared when a child disappeared in the olden days, but now with the "Amber alerts and your milk cartons, a person filets one rug rat, and people get so angry!"

Answer: Dean

While investigating JP's disappearance, Dean tried to stop Hansel from attacking Tina. Hansel grabbed Tina and attacked Dean too, turning him into his 14-year-old self. Dean spent part of the episode escaping, getting back to Sam, and saving Tina, and he did that as a teenager.

Answer: "Ashes the Rain and I" by James Gang

The haunting melody was the perfect background to Dean's Mark of Cain flashbacks, his introspection, and his research on the Mark, including digging through lore books and tattoo removal online sites. Sam eventually came in his room, noting he had not left the bunker in a week, and he convinced him to join him on the new case he found, telling him he believed he could beat the Mark of Cain.

Answer: Ghost

The brothers were hunting the ghost of a man killed in a hit and run by teenagers, a la "I Know What You Did Last Summer." The twist, though, was that the ghost had been killed when his car slammed into a utility pole connected to the broadband wires, so the spirit entered the wires and traveled from place to place attacking his victims using wi-fi.

Answer: Impaled on a bunch of forks

The ghost Andy killed Billy by trapping him in his truck and driving it off a bridge. It killed Julie by strangling her with her power cord. And, Kyle was killed when the music from his speakers was turned so loud that his "brains were jellied by his speakers." Getting impaled by knives was a method a ghost used to kill someone in season 7's "The Mentalists."

Answer: Sigma Theta Delta

Delilah told the brothers that everyone loved Billy and he was president of Sigma Theta Delta. Dean immediately asked if that was "STD"? She confirmed the acronym, but did not share Dean's amusement.

Answer: Collecting serial killer statistics

As the brothers drove to the prison to investigate the disappearance of serial killer Tommy Toliver, Dean incredulously tested Sam's knowledge of serial killer stats, including the number of victims for the Zodiac killer and Jeffrey Dalmer. Dean told Sam that his knowledge was "some freaky stuff; a whole new side of you." Sam told Dean it was a hobby. Dean replied, "No, bass fishing, needlepoint - that's a hobby. Collecting serial killer stats, that's, that is an illness."

Answer: remission and relapse

The fight scene between the elder Winchester brother and Cain was stunning - both for the fight and the conversation they had. Cain told Dean that by killing him he would be "saving him" from "his fate." He told Dean that Dean was living Cain's life "in reverse." He said, "My story began when I killed my brother, and that's where your story inevitably will end."

Answer: Crowley, then Castiel, then Sam

Toward the end of their battle, Cain said, "First you'd kill Crowley. There would be some strange mixed feelings on that one, but you'd have your reason. You'd get it done. No remorse. And then you'd kill the Angel, Castiel. Now that, that I suspect would hurt something awful. And then - then would come the murder you'd never survive.

The one that would turn you into as much of a savage as it did me. Your brother Sam. The only thing standing between you and that destiny is this blade." Then, just as he was about to kill Dean, Cain said, "You're welcome, my son." That is the moment that Dean grabbed the Angel blade and cut off Cain's arm.

When Cain refused to tell Dean that he would, or even could, stop killing, Dean killed Cain with the First Blade.
