Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Road Trip", which characters went on a road trip?

Answer: Dean, Castiel and Crowley

In exchange for a "field trip," Crowley agreed to help Dean and Castiel track down the angel possessing Sam and force the angel to vacate Sam's body. There were several humorous moments during the road trip, including before they got started, when Castiel said his car had "inexplicably" stopped (Dean correctly guessed the angel had run out of gas), and when the angel and demon bickered over who got to ride shotgun (Dean made them both ride in the back).
2. During "Road Trip", Crowley interrupted the conversation between Castiel and Dean to tell them that he had discovered something about the angel possessing Sam. What names did he use when he called Dean and Castiel?

Answer: Laverne and Shirley

Dean walked away while Crowley was probing the angel's brain because he could not stand to watch his brother's body being tortured. Castiel followed him, and the two talked, with Dean apologizing for kicking the angel out of the bunker, and not being honest with him. Both Dean and Castiel admitted to their mistakes before Crowley called "Laverne and Shirley" back to tell them he had discovered that the angel possessing Sam was Gadreel.
3. Dean agreed to allow Crowley to possess Sam, so that the demon could tell Sam that he was possessed by Gadreel and allow Sam to expel the angel. What was the "go word" that Dean shared with Crowley, so that Sam would believe the demon?

Answer: Poughkeepsie

In "Road Trip", Dean told the demon to say "Poughkeepsie" when he found Sam, telling the demon it was their "go word - it means drop everything and run." When Crowley found Sam, he used the word, and was able to convince him. He and Sam then fought the angel, and Sam expelled Gadreel, right before Crowley also exited Sam's body, allowing Sam to be free of any possession for the first time since the first episode of season 9.
4. In "First Born", it was revealed that every Knight of Hell except Abaddon had been killed. Who killed them?

Answer: Cain

Dean and Crowley spoke with Cain, who told them it was not the archangels that killed the Knights, but he, himself. Cain had trained the Knights, led them, and eventually tried to stop them by slaughtering them. However, Abaddon possessed his wife, killing her from the inside, and preventing Cain from killing that one Knight of Hell. Cain also explained that he did not kill Abel because he was jealous of him, but he killed his brother to save him. Lucifer was going to make Abel his pet. Cain made a bargain with Lucifer, that he would kill his brother to send him to heaven, and Cain would go to Hell in his brother's place.

This explanation came after Cain asked Dean why he saved Sam, and Dean replied, "Because you never give up on family."
5. Dean was in a bar, on the trail of Gadreel, when Crowley tracked him down in "First Born". Crowley asked for Dean's assistance tracking down the "first blade." Dean asked, incredulously, "You want to hunt - with me?" Crowley responded with what?

Answer: "I do love a good buddy comedy."

Crowley was at his snarky best during "First Born". Since John Winchester had killed a demon who knew about the First Blade, Crowley asked Dean for help tracking it. The two followed a lead from John's journal to his storage locker, which led to a hunter friend of John's, and eventually to Cain. Throughout, Crowley played Dean, leading him to a place where the elder Winchester brother would take on the Mark of Cain.

Another Crowley gem: upon hearing there were no other notes about the First Blade left by John, he asked Dean, "Didn't they teach note taking at hunter's Hogwarts?"
6. In "First Born", what was the last ingredient Tara needed for the location spell to find the "First Blade"?

Answer: Essence of kraken

Tara needed essence of Kraken. Crowley said he had some, so she let him out of the devil's trap, and he fetched the ingredient. Crowley and Dean invited Tara to join them on the quest, but she refused to work with Crowley. Unfortunately, she stayed behind and was killed by a demon working for Abaddon, but not before telling the demon where Crowley and Dean were headed.
7. What creatures did the Winchesters encounter in "Sharp Teeth"?

Answer: Werewolves

Sam and Dean each, separately, went to Wisconsin after Garth was hit by a car and reported as a John Doe by the police. After Garth ran from them, they tracked him down and discovered he had been turned into a werewolf, was living with his werewolf wife, and was part of her pack. Garth's wife was born a werewolf, rather than having been bitten like Garth and other werewolves the brothers encountered in "Heart" and "Bitten".
8. In "Sharp Teeth", the Winchesters were attacked more than once. Who killed the sheriff that led the brothers into a trap and was poised to attack them at the site of the animal kill? And, who killed Bess' stepmother and the others that took Garth, Sam and Bess captive?

Answer: Dean killed them all

The sheriff tricked the Winchesters into joining him at the site of the deer kill, turned into a werewolf, and prepared to kill the brothers. He barely got through stating his intention when Dean threw a silver knife and killed him. Later, the werewolves kidnapped Sam, Garth and Bess, intending to kill Garth and Bess, and blame the kills on Sam.

While a bound Sam was able to kick the gun out of the werewolf's hand, it was Dean who killed the werewolf standing guard outdoors, killed the werewolf that jumped him when he came inside, and then killed Bess' stepmother.

This episode, the first to air after Dean acquired the "Mark of Cain," showed Dean as an efficient and deadly hunter.
9. In "The Purge", Dean went undercover as a yoga instructor to find the monster killing people.

Answer: False

A pishtaco, a Peruvian fat-sucking monster, was killing people in "The Purge". Sam and Dean went undercover at the Canyon Valley Wellness Spa to find the monster. However, while they both tried to get hired as personal trainers, it was Sam that was hired as a trainer and worked as a yoga instructor. Dean worked in the kitchen.
10. In "The Purge", who said, "You're not the only one who's ever dated someone bendy."?

Answer: Sam

Sam said this to Dean, after Dean questioned how Sam could possibly know about yoga. This was a fun call back to "The Kids are All Right" in season 3, when Dean first told Sam about his hook up with Lisa years before, and stated he wanted to look her up, since he had less than a year to live at that point (having sold his soul to save his brother).

He told Sam that Lisa was a yoga teacher, and said his time with her was "the bendiest weekend of my life." When Sam agreed to go with him to Indiana so Dean could look her up, Dean anticipated his time with "Gumby girl" and then asked, "Does that make me Pokey?"
11. In "The Purge", who killed the pishtaco Maritza?

Answer: Nobody

Dean killed Maritza's brother, Alonzo, just as he was about to kill Sam. Alonzo had killed people - including Maritza's husband. However, since Maritza had not killed anyone and she told the brothers how to kill Alonzo, Sam convinced Dean not to kill her. They sent her back to Peru instead.
12. Sam and Dean discovered a ghost in the Men of Letters bunker during "Captives". Who was the ghost?

Answer: Kevin

The ghost turned out to be Kevin, who was trapped in the veil, along with all people killed after Heaven was closed by Metatron. Kevin asked the brothers to find his mother, since he was told by another recently deceased soul that his mother was still alive.
13. Who killed Bartholomew?

Answer: Castiel

Castiel killed Bartholomew in "Captives". Bartholomew attempted to recruit Castiel to his cause, demanding he prove his loyalty by killing another angel. When Castiel refused, Bartholomew killed the angel himself. He then tried to make Castiel fight him, and Castiel again refused.

When Bartholomew tried to kill Castiel, Castiel killed Bartholomew in self defense. Later, some of Bartholomew's followers went to Castiel and pledged to follow him.
14. What aliases did the Winchesters use in "Captives"?

Answer: Nicks and McVie

Dean introduced them as Agents Nicks and McVie, when questioning the employees of the storage facility. Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie were two members of Fleetwood Mac. It was fun for the viewers to hear the brothers using rock aliases again - with the twist of having them use last names of women rockers.

This was particularly appropriate in an episode where Linda Tran was no sooner rescued than she assisted in her escape with Sam and then killed the demon that kept her captive.
15. In "Captives", Dean was listening to music at the beginning and end of the episode. What was the song?

Answer: "Lonely is the Night"

Dean was alone in his room, listening to Billy Squire's "Lonely is the Night" on his headphones. The song emphasized the isolation of the character, as he was still estranged from his brother. While Sam and Dean were working together in the episode, Sam was still insisting they keep it strictly business.

It was clear that this left Dean totally alone when he was not working. Sam was similarly isolated, placing himself back behind a closed door at the end of the episode.
