Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode "About a Girl", Bortus and Klyden have a baby girl and are adamant about wanting the child to have a sex change operation. Lamar and Malloy go to Bortus's room to cheer him up. They bring some beer and a movie to watch. They think that if Bortus watches the movie they brought, it may cause him to have second thoughts about changing his baby's gender. The plan succeeds. What movie did the guys show to Bortus?

Answer: "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"

On Moclas they believe women of all species are inferior to men. After watching the movie, Bortus comes to understand that someone's short comings and differences can actually become an asset. Earlier in the episode, Alara also showed him in a boxing match that women can be strong.
2. In the episode "About a Girl" when the landing party arrives in Moclan airspace in their shuttle, they see explosions going off in the distance and Alara thinks that the planet is under attack. Kelly tells her not to worry and that they are just designated weapons testing zones. When two more explosions nearly destroy the shuttle, the crew is shaken up badly. The Moclan air control apologizes and says he forgot to let them know about the new testing zone. What does Malloy request that they bring to the landing site.

Answer: a pair of pants

The reason Malloy wanted pants was because the explosions scared the crap out of him. When the request is made, Kelly tells air control that Malloy is just kidding. Malloy jumps in and says "No I'm not!"
3. In the episode "If the Stars Should Appear", The ship encounters a gigantic derelict space ship that is on a collision coarse with a star. Inside the ship they find that it is an enormous terrarium with forests, towns and people. When Kelly gets captured by the evil ruling faction, she is beaten in order to get information. She refuses to say anything until she gets punched in the face for the last time. The leader gets right into Kelly's face and asks her slowly one more time, "Where....are...your....friends?" What is Kelly's response?

Answer: "They're in a little coffee shop on Lafayette St. in Soho called Central Perk."

Of course this is a reference to the TV show "Friends". After that she says "That's where my friends are. Please don't hurt the monkey." which is a reference to the pet monkey Marcel on "Friends". The crew members are always making 20th century references and 20th century catch phrases throughout the season.
4. In the episode "Krill", some of the crew are in the mess hall and Bortus wants to know what Malloy is eating. Malloy says it is sushi and asks Bortus to try some. Bortus grabs an entire ball of wasabi and chucks it down to the amazement of the rest. Bortus explains that Moclans have strong digestive tract and can eat most anything. To test him, what three items do the crew members give Bortus to eat at the table?

Answer: a napkin, a cactus plant, and a glass

Wasabi is an extremely hot condiment in paste form that is served with sushi. Alara said that if she ate half of what Bortus ate she would be puking for hours. After they watch Bortus take bites of the napkin, glass, and cactus, Malloy wants to go further and goes to replicate a bag of nails but the fun ends when the crew gets called to the bridge.
5. In the episode "Krill". Ed and Gordon are on secret mission disguised as Krill on board one of their ships. They make friends with a female Krill and share a meal with her. Before she starts to eat, she says a prayer to the Krill god Avis. She then asks Gordon if he'd like to say something about Avis. What does Gordon say in his prayer?

Answer: "Avis. We try harder."

Early in the episode when Ed and Gordon are disguised as Krill and siting in the Krill chapel, the preacher talks about their god Avis. Gordon leans over to Ed and says "I wonder if they know that their god is named after a 20th century car rental company." 'Avis. We try harder' was the slogan for the rental company from 1962 to 2012.
6. In the episode "Krill", the female Krill named Teleya stops Ed and Gordon in a hallway and asks if they were busy at the moment. What did Ed say to Teleya?

Answer: "We were just on our way to get our chin horns waxed."

The Krill have a pair of protrusions sticking out from the bottom of their chin that looks somewhat like insect pincers. What's funny about it is that Teleya didn't act as if it was a strange thing for a Krill to say so maybe they actually do wax their chin horns.
7. At the start of the episode "Cupid's Dagger" the crew is having karaoke night. After Kelly sings "Any Way You Want It" by Journey, the host calls up Bortus to sing. The intro starts and Bortus is just about to sing when the party is interrupted by a high priority message. What song was Bortus about to sing?

Answer: "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion

No one expected that Bortus would want to sing or even could sing. When the intro started, everyone looked at each other because they recognized the song but were obviously wondering what it would sound like coming from Bortus's mouth. Kelly was relieved when they got the high priority call that stopped the karaoke party.

When the Admiral apologized for breaking into their off hour time, Kelly told him "No. Your timing was actually perfect."
8. In the episode "Cupid's Dagger", crew is ordered to pick up a forensic archeologist to help in identifying an artifact. The artifact may establish what people can rightfully lay claim to a disputed planet. When the archeologist arrives, Ed and Kelly's mouths drop. Who is the archeologist?

Answer: Darulio

In this episode, Darulio's pheromones cause enhanced sexual desires on some of the crew members. Kelly starts becoming attracted to him again, Dr. Finn becomes sexually attracted to Yaphit, and Ed becomes attracted to Darulio. At the end, Darulio's pheromones cause the leaders of the two warring factions to fall in love with each other and it ends the conflict.
9. In the episode "Mad Idolatry" Ed finishes his shift on the bridge and goes to see if any of his friends want to go get a drink. He ends up at Bortus's quarters and is invited in for a drink. While making small talk, Ed asks Bortus what he and Klyden do for fun. They tell Ed that they play a game called latchkum. Ed says he's up for it and to bring it out. The game involves tossing a large egg shaped metal orb back and forth like in the game hot potato. What happens to the loser of the game?

Answer: A sharp blade shoots through the hand of the loser.

While tossing the orb back and forth for a while, Ed begins to wonder what the object of the game is. While asking, he holds the orb too long and is stabbed in the hand. At that point Ed screams in pain while Bortus and Klyden yell "Latchkum!" in a victorious manner.
10. In the final episode "The Road Not Take", Kelly is responsible for creating an alternate time line when she is sent back from the future and decides not to marry Ed. As a result of her decision, all life on Earth is destroyed by the Kaylons. To set things right, they need the Orville. Ed tells Kelly that all Earth ships have been destroyed but Kelly assures Ed that the ship survived. Where, in this time line, is the Orville?

Answer: At the bottom of the Pacific Ocean

When the Kaylon attacked the Orville, it descended into the Earth's atmosphere and the Kaylon thought it was destroyed. The bridge crew managed to escape before the ship sank leaving Bortus as the only member still on board. They figured that Bortus stood the best chance of survival on the ship and could hold out until they could come back for the ship.
