Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following new characters was NOT introduced in season 4 of "The Walking Dead"?

Answer: Negan

Negan does not appear until season 6, episode 16, "Last Day on Earth."

Tara first appears in a flashback in season 4, episode 6, "Live Bait." The audience is also introduced to her sister Lilly and niece Meghan.

Bob Stookey, a former army medic, arrives at the prison sometimes between seasons 3 and 4 and is first introduced to the audience in season 4, episode 1, "30 Days without an Accident."

Season 4 also incorporates the characters Eugene Porter, Rosita Espinosa, and Sgt. Abraham Ford, who met up in Texas and have since been travelling on a mission to get Eugene to Washington, D.C.
2. What two characters die in the very first episode of season 4, "30 Days Without an Accident"?

Answer: Zach and Patrick

Lori and T-Dog both died in season 3. Patrick, a young man who is a friend of Carl's and a refugee who joined the prison camp, gets sick one night, coughs up blood, and dies. He is the first to succumb to the strange sickness that originated in pigs and sweeps the prison. He transforms in the night and begins feasting.

Zach, Beth's boyfriend, is killed while on a supply run, and Daryl has to break the news for her. Until then, the prison camp had gone "30 days without an accident" - thus the episode's title.
3. Carol is supposed to be having story time with the kids in the prison. What does she teach them instead?

Answer: How to use knives to kill

Carol keeps the knife lessons secret from Rick, because she feels he's grown too complacent. In season 4, episode 2, she asks Carl not to tell Rick, saying, "I have to keep teaching those kids to survive. You know that." Carl does eventually tell his father, however, saying, "Their parents don't know, and she doesn't want you to know." He advises Rick to let Carol keep teaching the kids to defend themselves, and Rick agrees.
4. There's a killer at the prison. Who discovers the burned bodies of his girlfriend Karen and her friend David?

Answer: Tyreese

Tyreese finds the body of his girlfriend Karen and Karen's friend David. Both have been killed and the bodies burnt. Rick begins to investigate the murder. He realizes that Carol was the one who killed them in an effort to prevent a deadly infection from spreading throughout the prison.

As a consequence, he banishes her from their community by leaving her alone with some supplies, a gun, and a car after they go scavenging. He doesn't discuss the matter with anyone else at the prison, and Daryl doesn't learn of it until he returns from a mission to retrieve medicines.

He's angered that Rick didn't wait to discuss it.
5. When disease breaks out in the prison, where does Hershel say the group might find medicines to help treat the sick?

Answer: A veterinary college

Hershel, himself a veterinarian, suggests that, unlike pharmacies, the veterinarian college might not have been looted. Daryl leads a group to recover the medicines. While on this mission, in episode 3, "Isolation," he hears a broadcast on the car radio in which Terminus is offering sanctuary for all.
6. When Daryl says he's going to take a group out in search of medicines, Michonne replies she's coming with him. Hershel cautions, "You haven't been exposed. Daryl has. You get in the car with him..." Michonne replies, "He's already given me ___".

Answer: fleas

Michonne and Daryl seem to have developed something of a playful, teasing sibling-like relationship, as they apparently often spent time hunting the Governor together between seasons.

Scott Gimple took over as showrunner for the fourth season of "The Walking Dead," which premiered on AMC in the U.S. on October 13, 2013. The season drew inspiration from issues 40 through 61 of the comic book series and won an award for Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series at the 40th Saturn Awards.
7. In season 4, episode four, while the group is looking for medicines, Daryl discovers a bottle of liquor in what alcoholic man's pack?

Answer: Bob Stookey

Rick and Daryl found Bob shortly before season four opens. He suffers from survivor's guilt because he was the last surviving member of his group - twice. He drinks to be able to sleep at night. In episode 1 of season 4, he accidentally knocked over a liquor shelf and attracted the herd of walkers that killed Zach.

When Daryl discovers the bottle in episode 4, he tells Bob, "Take one sip. When those meds get in our people, I will beat [you] into the ground. You hear me?"
8. In a flashback, the audience learns what happened to the Governor after his first attack on the prison. Which of the following incidents does NOT occur?

Answer: He discovers Terminus, but decides not to seek refuge there

This flashback occurs over episode 6 "Live Bait" and episode 7, "Dead Weight." Under a pseudonym, he gets to know the Chambler family and helps Tara and Lilly deal with their dying father. The women and Lily's daughter move on with him, and he runs into Caesar Martinez, who had abandoned him after the first attack on the prison and is now leading his own group. The Governor kills Martinez by hitting him in the head with a golf club and then throwing him into a walker pit. He takes over the group and weapons and uses them to lead an attack on the prison.
9. Who is decapitated by the Governor in the mid-season finale of season 4, episode 8, "Too Far Gone"?

Answer: Hershel

Even though Rick tries to make a truce, the Governor decapitates Hershel. The Governor then orders an assault on the prison and destroys its fences so that walkers stream in. As a result, the survivors must scatter. Apparently, the survivors didn't have a rendezvous point established in case anything happened to the prison, even though they already lost one camp (the Greene Family farm) and were scattered and had to meet up again. So they end up wandering in small groups for some time before they finally meet up again.
10. Which of the following characters is still alive at the end of season 4?

Answer: Tyreese

Mika is killed by Lizzie, who thinks that when she reanimates she will still be herself. She plans to do the same to Judith. Carol then makes Lizzie "look at the flowers" while she shoots her in the back of the head. Lilly dies off-screen in season four, having committed suicide by letting walkers devour her. Tyreese, however, does not meet his death until season 5, episode 9, "What Happened and What's Going On."
11. When the survivors of the prison onslaught are scattered, they end up in small groups. With whom does Beth Greene end up?

Answer: Daryl

Daryl helps Beth in her quest to find her first drink, and they end up fighting, and then bonding, at a moonshiner's cabin. Maggie ends up traveling with Sasha and Bob, while Judith, along with Mika and Lizzie are rescued by Tyreese and end up running into the banished Carol. Rick, Carl, and Michonne survive together, while Glenn finds Tara and the two end up running into a new group - Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene.
12. After the collapse of the prison, Daryl eventually ends up alone and falls in with what questionable group of men, led by a man named Joe?

Answer: The Claimers

The Wolves, Saviors, and Highwaymen do not appear until later seasons. After Beth is abducted, Daryl finds himself alone and falls in with a group known as "The Claimers." The Claimers have their own set of rules among themselves, including that someone must be the first to "claim" something when it is seen. Unbeknownst to Daryl, Rick encountered the group separately and killed one of their men.

This later results in a confrontation where Joe seeks revenge on Rick.
13. When the group of men Daryl has fallen in with attack Rick and Michonne and threaten to rape Carl, how does Rick kill their leader?

Answer: Rips his throat out with his own teeth

In the season 4 finale, "A," Rick bites into Joe's carotid artery to kill him. In the chaos, Daryl and Michonne kill other members of The Claimers. Later, leaned back against a car while Rick cleans his wounds, Daryl expresses a deep sense of guilt for having fallen in with the gang. Rick assures him he is not to blame for what happened and calls him his brother.
14. Does Carol ever tell Tyreese she killed Karen?

Answer: Yes

In season 4, episode 14, "The Grove," after Carol is forced to kill Lizzie, Tyreese wonders if Lizzie killed Karen and David. Carol then confesses to Tyreese that she was the one who killed Karen. "I had to stop the illness from breaking out." She's prepared for him to seek vengeance, but instead he says, "I forgive you, but I'm never going to forget. It's a part of you now. Me too."
15. Rick is the one who finally kills the Governor.

Answer: False

Rick fights with the Governor, and as Rick is being beaten, Michonne sneaks up and stabs the Governor in the back with her katana. She leaves him to die in slow agony rather than kill him and put him out of his suffering. Later, Tara's sister Lily Chambler, comes upon the Governor and shoots him in the head to finish him off.
