Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first episode, 'Everything Changes', sees Gwen Cooper witnessing the Torchwood team using some alien technology. What is it?

Answer: A glove that resurrects the dead for a few minutes.

A series of unusual murders leads to the Torchwood team being called to investigate. They use the resurrection glove to find out if any of the victims got a look at their attacker. Gwen sees what they are doing and eventually ends up joining the team.
The device that shows events from the past was used in the episode 'Ghost Machine' and I made the others up.
2. Which member of Torchwood is a qualified medical doctor?

Answer: Owen

Owen has to use his skills a fair few times throughout the series. Tosh (Toshiko) is a computer specialist and Gwen used to be a policewoman before she joined Torchwood. Ianto starts off being a receptionist / teaboy but his role develops as the series progresses and by the end he seems to be a fully integrated team member as well as Jack's on-off lover!
3. In the episode 'Countrycide', where do the cannibalistic villagers live?

Answer: The Brecon Beacons

Tosh and Ianto nearly end up on the menu! Gwen cannot understand that the murderous villagers kill and eat people just because they like doing it.
4. In the episode 'Greeks Bearing Gifts', Tosh is given a pendant from an alien in human form. What does the pendant allow her to do?

Answer: Hear other people's thoughts.

Tosh initially gets overwhelmed with everything she can hear but she ends up preventing a murder when she hears a man planning to shoot his ex-wife. She tries to read Jack's mind too but can't get in, although he later tells her he could feel something going on. Tosh says it was like he was a dead man. Jack falls silent which gives her a clue about who he really is as she's never found out anything about him the whole time they have been working together. Tosh ends up destroying the pendant and Jack sends the alien blasting into the middle of the sun. All in a day's work, then!
5. Original Torchwood team-member Suzie returns as a villain in 'They Keep Killing Suzie'. She has engineered a complex plan to make sure she gets resurrected in the event of her death by the glove that we are introduced to in episode one. In the end, of course, she is foiled and Captain Jack kills her for good. What does he tell Ianto to classify her death as?

Answer: "Death by Torchwood".

Suzie had been sapping the life from Gwen as she had forged a connection to her when Gwen used the glove to bring her back to life. Jack finally realises that the glove needs to be destroyed to sever the link. Ianto worries at the end of the episode that gloves always come in pairs.
6. In the episode 'Random Shoes', why was Eugene selling his alien artefact on eBay?

Answer: To pay for a trip to Australia for his friend.

Eugene offered to sell his prized possession as his work mate was feeling depressed. It only occurred to him that the alien might be bidding on it when the price started rising to thousands of pounds. It turns out that his friends are the winning bidders so Eugene runs off, getting hit by a car and killed in the process.

His ghost leads Gwen to the truth behind his death and he ends up saving her from being hit by a car too.
7. In 'Captain Jack Harkness', Tosh and Jack get transported back to 1941 when they pass through the space and time rift. Why does Toshiko feel uncomfortable in the war-time dancehall they're in?

Answer: She's the only Asian person there.

Tosh finally finds out more about her mysterious boss when they meet the original Captin Jack Harkness in the dancehall. Torchwood Jack explains that he took his name after the real Jack died the day following their trip back in time.
Tosh manages to overcome a sticky situation when a woman suddenly accuses her of spying for the Japanese because Jack says she's a specialist decoder. He then shares a kiss with his original, doomed namesake before escaping back to the present day.
8. The series finished with a double bill - 'Captain Jack Harkness' and 'End of Days'. To rescue Jack and Tosh from the past, Owen goes against protocol and opens the rift, unfortunately letting all sorts of things fall through from the past and future. Throughout the finale, the team see various characters from their lives who tell them to open the rift again and everything will go back to normal. Who do we NOT see giving this advice?

Answer: Jack's namesake - the original Captain Jack Harkness.

Things from the past and future are appearing all over the place and no-one seems to know what to do. A strange character called Bilis who was the dancehall manager in 'Captain Jack Harkness' and has the ability to teleport anywhere and to any time period, kills Gwen's boyfriend in order to convince the team they need to open the rift again.

But what they don't realise is that he has ulterior motives.
9. What is Bilis's clock shop called?

Answer: 'A Stitch in Time'.

With his amazing space and time travelling abilities, Bilis Manger (that's got to be an anagram of something!) decides to sell antique clocks in his own shop. I'm not sure that would be most people's first thought but he seems happy enough. After convincing the Torchwood team (apart from Jack) to open the rift, the demon he worships, Abaddon, is released. Lots of people die as his shadow touches them but Jack meets him for a final showdown and he vanquishes the demon with his excess of life.
10. The battle with Abaddon seems to have finally killed Captain Jack Harkness and only Gwen believes he will still recover after days of being dead and guess what? He does! When she asks him who would have convinced him to open the rift, he answers 'the right kind of doctor' - obviously an allusion to Doctor Who. What familiar sound do we hear prior to Jack's sudden disappearance at the end of the show?

Answer: The TARDIS arriving.

We presume that the Doctor has picked Jack up, hopefully to appear in the next series of 'Doctor Who'!

I hope you enjoyed my quiz! Thanks for playing.
