Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many seasons did the show run?

Answer: 6

The show premiered in 1999 and aired its finale in 2005. During its run it aired 132 episodes (22 per season).
2. Which main character was the first to leave the show?

Answer: Bobby Caffey

In season 2, Bobby Caffey was killed off when his character was recruited by a sibling of an old friend to help him. That friend became a drug addict. In his efforts, Bobby ended up getting shot by his friend. Bobby Cannavale, the actor who portrayed Bobby Caffey, claimed he asked to leave the show due to lack of character development.
3. What was the song used as the show's theme for the vast majority of the series?

Answer: "Keep Hope Alive" by The Crystal Method

During the first episode the song "Right Here, Right Now" was used but after that one episode, "Keep Hope Alive" was used as the theme song for the vast majority of the series. Out of the entire 6 season series the only other episodes to not use "Keep Hope Alive" were the 9/11-related episodes and the series finale.
4. Which song was used at both the ending of the series premiere as well as the series finale?

Answer: "Battersea" by Hooverphonic

The song "Battersea" started playing during the series premiere when Jerry was in the ER and his fellow colleagues were standing outside the room watching. The song started playing during the series finale when the narration began at the end of the episode explaining the fates of each of the characters.
5. What prestigious award did the show receive for its post-9/11 reality episode "In Their Own Words"?

Answer: Peabody Award

The George Foster Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting was awarded to the show for its non-fiction episode where cast members sit down and interview actual EMS workers who were part of the 9/11 terrorist attack.
6. Which main character was the first to leave the show by a means other than being killed off?

Answer: Jimmy Doherty

Jimmy Doherty received a promotion to Captain of the coveted Brooklyn Rescue-2 unit in season 5. He proposed to Kim but was rejected but eventually Kim changed her mind and left her role at the 55 and moved in with Jimmy and they remarried.
7. What reality show did some of the cast and crew appear on as a "Third Watch" event for charity?

Answer: The Weakest Link

Participants of this included actors Anthony Ruivivar, Skipp Sudduth, Savvanah Haske, Amy Carlson, Brad Beyer, Chris Bauer, Coby Bell, and director/series creator Edward Allen Bernero. The final head-to-head round was between Coby Bell and Skipp Sudduth (who in the show play partners) and was won by Coby Bell.
8. When Yokas arrests her husband for DUI, what was her logic for doing so when Bosco suggested just taking him home to sleep it off instead?

Answer: He was on his way to pick up their kids.

The accident itself involved Fred hitting an empty bus shelter. No one else was involved in the collision. When Fred borrowed bail money from a friend and arrived at home that evening Yokas kicked him out saying she was raised in a family of drunks and won't let it happen to her kids.
9. Why was Carlos fired as a paramedic?

Answer: He was accused of inappropriate touching of a minor in the back of the ambulance.

Carlos was fired because a girl accused him of touching her inappropriately (his hand grazed her breast). The family threatened to sue the city and they settled with the city to drop the case if Carlos was fired. Eventually Carlos was reinstated when the girl later admitted her accusation was meant to be a cry for help about her father being the one touching her inappropriately.
10. The character Donald Mann was the architect of a violent shootout in the hospital's ER as revenge for his son being killed in a car chase with the police during a multi-episode arc. Which KISS band member played the character?

Answer: Gene Simmons

Gene Simmons played the character for three episodes: the last two episodes in season 5 and the season premiere of season 6. His character was killed by Yokas as revenge for Bosco's injury (she believed he died) despite the fact Cruz already had him in custody.
11. What secret about Ty's father did he learn despite the rest of his family knowing about it all along?

Answer: He fathered two families.

At the beginning of the episode "The Tys That Bind," Ty is asked out and during the dinner date the woman reveals she is Ty's sister. Most of the episode was focused on him learning more about his father's background and the fact he raised two families.
12. What event triggered Boscorelli to get the firefighters' vehicles towed during a neighborhood BBQ they were hosting?

Answer: Doherty wouldn't share the meat given to them at a call they both participated in.

At the beginning of the episode Bosco took Doherty's parking spot. This began a feud between them that grew when Bosco and Yokas responded to a fire at a deli and helped evacuate it. When the firefighters killed the fire the owner rewarded them with boxes of meats that would've gone bad because the freezers were damaged. Doherty wouldn't share the meat with Bosco and instead hosted a BBQ at their station. Calling for their cars to be towed was Bosco's revenge that ended up in forcing Doherty to accept his terms of joining in on the BBQ.
13. Carlos has stated that he was a medic in which branch of the United States Military?

Answer: Marines

Even though he stated he was a medic with the Marines, that is actually impossible as the Marines have no medics of their own. All medics, even if deployed to Marine units, are from the Navy.
14. Which character exacted vigilante justice against gang leader Caesar Dominguez by dropping him off in front of his rival gang in the middle of the night.

Answer: Faith Yokas

Earlier in the episode Yokas and Bosco took Caesar for a long ride and threatened to drop him off in the center of his rival's turf, causing him to admit his guilt. Later he orchestrated a murder using a child as the killer, causing Yokas to follow through on her threat despite Bosco's objections. As soon as the car drove away the gang attacked and beat him to death.
15. During the time the show was on the air, which characters in the show were a couple and portrayed by actors who were married to each other in real life?

Answer: Holly and Carlos

The actress who played Holly was Yvonne Jung. She actually appeared in a 2001 episode as a different character. In 2003 she re-appeared as the character Holly Levine as a paramedic. Even though their characters did not like each other at first, Holly and Carlos ended up in a relationship and in the series finale got married.
