Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Frank Barone

Answer: Peter Boyle

Frank Barone was the patriarch of the matriarchal Barone family on "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996-2005). Frank and Marie lives in the suburbs across the street from their sports-writing son and his family. Frank Barone was brilliantly played by Peter Boyle (1935-2006), who had a resume which included "Young Frankenstein" (as the 'monster'), and the controversial 1970 movie "Joe", where Boyle has the title role of a 'hippy-hating' stranger.
2. Bobbi Adler

Answer: Debbie Reynolds

Mary Frances 'Debbie' Reynolds is a singer, actress, "collector of film memorabilia" and mother of Carrie Fisher ('Princess Leia'). She started out in films in 1950 in "Three Little Words", but really became a household name in the wonderful 1952 musical "Singin' in the Rain" where she played the lead role of Kathy Selden opposite Gene Kelly.

In 1957, her song "Tammy" hit number one on the music charts. From 1999-2006 she played Bobbi Adler on the TV show "Will and Grace". Bobbi was Grace's mother, a singer and actress with the Schenectady Players, and a meddler in her daughter's love life.
3. Steven Keaton

Answer: Michael Gross

Former hippie, baby boomer and manager of WKS, a public broadcasting station in Ohio, Steven Keaton was the father of Alex, Mallory and Jennifer (and later Andy) on the sitcom "Family Ties". Michael Gross played the paternal role for the entire run of the hit series from 1982-1989. On the show, he was the gentle, understanding, liberal dad who loved his kids despite the cultural divide between the generations. Gross has since appeared on both TV (e.g., "SVU") and in films like the 2016 comedy "C Street".
4. Livia Soprano

Answer: Nancy Marchand

Who can forget the 'anti-mother of the year', Livia Soprano? On "The Sopranos" (1999-2007), Livia had three children: Janice, Tony and Barbara. Her main goal in life seemed to be to manipulate her children and undermine them at every opportunity. Livia was, most likely, one of the main reasons for Tony's winding up in psychotherapy.

She was beautifully and believably portrayed by Nancy Marchand (1928-2000) who won both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her portrayal. Marchand also received three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Margaret Pynchon, publisher and owner of the L.A. Tribune, on "Lou Grant".
5. Gus Stemple

Answer: Carroll O'Connor

If you were a fan of the sitcom "Mad About You" (1992-1999), you may have seen the episodes where Carroll O'Connor and Carol Burnett played Gus and Theresa Stemple, the parents of Jamie Stemple Buckman. The show was about newlyweds (at the time) Paul and Jamie Buckman, two young, upscale New Yorkers, and the everyday trials and tribulations they faced, including meddling in-laws. O'Connor (1924-2001) needs no introduction as the bigoted Archie Bunker from "All in the Family", Norman Lear's show which changed the face of television.

After "All in the Family", O'Connor also played the lead in the TV series "In the Heat of the Night" from 1988 to 1995.
6. Olivia Jefferson

Answer: Zara Cully

Most of us can still remember George and Weezie "movin' on up to the East side" on "The Jeffersons" which ran from 1975 to 1985. But how many of you remember George's doting mother and Louise's disapproving mother-in-law, Olivia ("Mother Jefferson")? Mother Jefferson was an American actress played by Zara Cully (1892-1978). Ms. Cully actually began playing George's mother on "All in the Family" on an episode called "Lionel's Engagement" which aired on February 9, 1974 when she was 82.

While other actors were replaced for the spin-off the following year, she was kept on. Prior to that role, Cully had made appearances on the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives", as well as on TV shows like "Night Gallery" and "The Mod Squad".
7. Barbara Kramer

Answer: Sheree North

Did you ever wonder who produced the strange character Cosmo Kramer from "Seinfeld" (1989-1998)? We waited a lot of years to meet Kramer's mother; her name was Barbara 'Babs" Kramer. Previously we had learned that she was a drunk, but we finally got to see her on the episode "The Switch" (original air date January 5, 1995).

She had apparently been 'clean' for two years and was working as a matron in a restaurant bathroom. Babs was played by actress Sheree North (1932-2005) who appeared in a number of films in the 1950s and, after that, performed on a number of shows including "The Golden Girls", "Matlock" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".
8. Arthur Spooner

Answer: Jerry Stiller

Ok, so you know Jerry Stiller as Frank Costanza from "Seinfeld"... but for another nine years he played Arthur Eugene Spooner on "The King of Queens" (1998-2007). Arthur was the father of Carrie Spooner Heffernan (Leah Remini) and the father-in-law of parcel deliverer Doug Heffernan (Kevin James).

He lived in the basement of the Heffernan home in Queens and, while he no longer celebrated "Festivus", he still provided a great deal of the comic relief for the show. Jerry Stiller (real life father of Ben) started out as half of the comedy duo of Stiller and Meara, a wonderful 1960s staple on TV.

He has been entertaining people and making them laugh for 60 years!
9. Cindy Walsh

Answer: Carol Potter

I have a feeling this one was probably a little more difficult. Although "Beverly Hills, 90210" was a major hit throughout the entire decade of the 1990s, Brandon and Brenda Walsh and their pals were the stars of the show, with the Walsh parents, Jim and Cindy, making appearances intermittently. We do know that Jim and Cindy met in college and married when Cindy was a respectable 25 years old and, despite any problems, they were the picture of the perfect adult couple. Cindy was played by Carol Potter who, prior to her "Beverly Hills" stint, appeared on the soap opera "One Life to Live".

She has also been on a number of TV shows since, e.g., "NYPD Blue", "JAG" and "Medium".
10. Herbert T. Gillis

Answer: Frank Faylen

This one goes waaaaay back! A long time ago, i.e., 1959 to 1963, there was a comedy (before they called them 'sitcoms') called "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" about a lovesick teenager and his attempts to get girls, cars and money. Hmmm...maybe some things never change. Anyway, one of the most striking things about the show was its cast of supporting actors which included Bob Denver ("Gilligan"), Tuesday Weld (a major star in the 1960s) and Warren Beatty. Dobie's father, Herbert T. Gillis, was the owner of the grocery store, and was played by long time actor Frank Faylen (1905-1985).

He had appeared in such memorable films as "It's a Wonderful Life", "The Lost Weekend" and "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral".
