Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did Jared Chirp die?

Answer: in his car

Chirp dropped his keys and when he reached to pick them up, snakes started swarming out. He tried shooting at them, but there were too many snakes for the gun to be of much use. Later, there was no sign of how the snakes had escaped, and not so much as a scale found in the car.
2. Scully commented that she didn't learn snake handling in what class?

Answer: catechism

Scully and Mulder were approaching the Church of God with Signs and Wonders and Scully commented wryly, "Snake handling: didn't learn that in catechism class." Mulder responded, "Funny. I knew a couple Catholic schoolgirls who were experts at it." I doubt Mulder was talking about rattlesnakes...
3. The Bible passage that both church groups were discussing dealt with people who were what?

Answer: lukewarm

The passage, Revelations 3 verse 16, stated in Reverend Enoch O'Connor's words, "Tis better to be hot or cold than lukewarm. God says if you're lukewarm, he will vomit you out of his mouth". Reverend Samuel Mackey's group took a much more tempered, historical approach than O'Connor's fiery one.
4. What was Iris using that turned into a snake's head and bit her hand?

Answer: staple remover

She was sitting at Rev. Mackey's group un-stapling and re-stapling some pamphlets while O'Connor's group was practicing snake handling. As Iris went to remove a staple, the staple remover in her hand transformed into a snake's head and bit her other hand. Iris went to the bathroom at the church to wash out the puncture wounds and was attacked by snakes.
5. How were Gracie and Rev. O'Connor related?

Answer: She was his daughter.

When Gracie got pregnant, though, O'Connor barred her from his church and home.
6. Whose hand did Rev. O'Connor force into the snake box?

Answer: Scully's

Saying "You must be judged," he held her face against the box's mesh top, opened the box, and forced her hand inside. Thankfully, Mulder burst in and stopped O'Connor before Scully was hurt.
7. Who talked Gracie out of blocking anti-venom treatment for Rev. O'Connor?

Answer: Rev. Mackey

She had been preventing it because she believed her father would have wanted that way. Growing up, he'd been bitten and always left it in God's hands whether he would live or die. Rev. Mackey reminded her that she'd come to him wanting to think for herself and encouraged her to make her decision based on her own beliefs rather than on her father's.

She agreed to the treatment, but when Rev. Mackey left the room, O'Connor's wounds started oozing and he woke up. When Mackey returned, the two were missing.
8. How was Rev. O'Connor going to kill Rev. Mackey?

Answer: knife

Mulder walked in on Rev. O'Connor holding a knife to Rev. Mackey's throat and shot him before he could do any damage.
9. Who was the father of Gracie's child?

Answer: Rev. Mackey

Scully and Mulder had thought Jared was the father, but found some test results showing he was sterile. Then Rev. Mackey told them that the father was actually Gracie's father, Rev. O'Connor, which was part of why Gracie had wanted to get away from her father's church.

In the end, though, it turned out that Mackey was actually the father and had been trying to ruin O'Connor by seducing his daughter and discrediting his church's practices.
10. Who was responsible for the deaths?

Answer: Rev. Mackey

The agents thought it was Rev. O'Connor until they realized that Rev. Mackey was actually the father of Gracie's child. After keeping O'Connor from killing Mackey, Mulder confronted Mackey in the church. Mackey shut the windows and doors and made snakes appear so that Mulder could test his own righteousness.

When Scully got to the church and heard Mulder's screams, she broke through the door to find Mulder lying on the floor of an empty room, with the last snake slithering out the back door. Mulder recovered but Mackey disappeared.

The end of the episode showed him in a church in Massachusetts. He held a live mouse over his head, leaned back and opened his mouth, and a snake came out, ate the mouse, and went back down his throat.
