Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Crazy Redd is a fox based on which culture's folklore?

Answer: Japanese

The Fox, also known as Crazy Redd, sells paintings or other furniture in "Animal Crossing" but there is a catch: some of them are fake. This shows up in Japanese folklore. In Japanese folklore, foxes can turn useless items into money, just like Crazy Redd sells fake art for a high price thereby turning useless items into money.
2. Which seagull is based on a book?

Answer: Gulliver

The seagull or Gulliver is a confused traveler that keeps getting washed up on the shore. Gulliver actually is not based on Japanese folklore but on a book written by Jonathan Swift, called "Gulliver's Travels".
3. Kappn is what character from Japanese Folklore?

Answer: Kappa

Kappn is a Kappa from Japanese folklore who is supposed to be a human mixed with a turtle that enjoys mischief and stealing children. The reason Kappn sings about cucumbers is because, according to Japanese folklore, you had to fight a Kappa with a cucumber because that was its weakness.
4. Who is Tom Nook?

Answer: A store owner

Tom Nook goes right along with the Leaf. Tom Nook is based on Japanese folklore as a character known as a Tanooki that symbolises financial luck and can transform leaves into furniture. That is also why furniture appears as a Leaf in your pockets or on the ground.
5. Porter is based on what?

Answer: A song

Porter is a monkey that works at a train station. He was given that name and position based on a Japanese song called the "Monkey Palanquin Carrier". It's interesting because Porter means a person hired to carry luggage, especially at a train station or hotel, and Palanquin means a Passenger Box, which matches his job very closely.
6. Where does Luna work?

Answer: A Dream Suite

Luna, who works at a Dream Suite, will never let you go to a town you think is nightmarish. She is based on a Japanese folklore character that shares the same name and is known to eat nightmares. Luna does not make an appearance until "New Leaf".
7. Dharma Dolls are what type of dolls?

Answer: Wishing doll

The Dharma Dolls are Japanese wishing dolls that you post a wish on, close one of its eyes, and leave closed until your wish comes true. The Dharma dolls act in the same way in "Animal Crossing" except that you can't make a wish.
8. Gyroids are found buried.

Answer: True

Gyroids are Japanese soul jars that are buried with the dead to give their souls a place to live in. It gives an eerie suggestion in "Animal Crossing" that you are digging up peoples graves, and what is even freakier is that in "Animal Crossing", the Gyroids are alive.
9. Blathers is an owl with a lot of knowledge.

Answer: True

Blathers was given his name because he was programmed to talk a while when you give him something. Since he has a lot of information, being a wise owl really matches his character.
10. K.K. Slider is a coffee shop owner.

Answer: False

K.K. Slider is a music creator and was given his name because it was very close to the name of the song writer for "Animal Crossing". K.K. Slider's real name is Totakeke.
