Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who rescues Makoto from the trash dump?

Answer: Kyoko

After Makoto barely escaped his execution in the previous chapter, he lands in the trash dump. Kyoko still has the Monokuma key so she followed Makoto to the dump, unlocked the door to the school and the two climbed back into the school proper.
2. What reason does Kyoko give for forcing Monokuma to redo the trial looking into the death of Mukuro Ikusaba?

Answer: The Killing Game is televised

In the previous chapter, Monokuma told the students the Killing Game was being broadcast around the world and that the mastermind seized control of the airwaves. The mastermind's ultimate goal is to spread despair by defeating hope as personified by the nation's brightest students at Hope's Peak Academy. However as Kyoko pointed out, the plan would never work because Monokuma and the mastermind stopped playing fair. Kyoko argued that viewers would not be convinced to abandon hope and join despair if the game was not fair.

Specifically, Kyoko said the mastermind erred by punishing Makoto for the murder he did not commit. If the game is rigged, then despair cannot win fairly and the mastermind would not gain supporters. Monokuma refuses to admit this but concedes to have another class trial.
3. On what condition does Monokuma allow for another class trial?

Answer: The students must solve all the remaining mysteries of Hope's Peak Academy

Monokuma allows for a final class trial on the grounds that the six remaining students solve every mystery of the school. Although it is not revealed at this time, those mysteries include finding Mukuro's killer, discovering the identity of the mastermind, how the students came to the school in the first place and what happened to the real headmaster.
4. Monokuma was telling the truth when he said that since the start of the game, the sixteen students in the game were the only people to have set foot in the school.

Answer: True

While Monokuma initially withholds the fact that sixteen, not fifteen students, are participants in the game, he is telling the truth that no one else stepped foot in the school. He confirms that some people watching the broadcast attempted to enter the school and rescue the kids but were killed before they could do so.
5. Whose body is discovered in the gift box found in the headmaster's living quarters?

Answer: Headmaster Kirigiri

Monokuma unlocks of the rooms in the school and that includes the headmaster's living quarters in the second-floor dorm area. Kyoko and Makoto explore this part of the school and discover a hidden room in the headmaster's quarters. Inside is a gift box addressed to Kyoko that contains a set of bones and skull.

The bones belong to the headmaster who was Kyoko estranged father who was executed in the opening credits before the game began.
6. Which of the following is a piece of evidence that indicates that a student previously thought to be deceased is actually still alive?

Answer: The morgue lights in the biology lab

There are two major clues indicating the presence of a seventh living student. The most obvious is the makeshift morgue in the biology lab. There are sixteen freezers, one for each student, and nine of them have lights that are on indicating there is a body in that spot. However, there should be ten lights on since ten students have died thus far.

The other major clue is the Monokuma controls. Makoto and Hina investigate the control room where the mastermind watches the security footage and controls Monokuma. The mastermind is not present so Hina is able to take control of Monokuma for a short time. However, when she and Makoto leave, Monokuma is still being controlled from that room. Monokuma says they didn't search thoroughly enough and the mastermind was hiding there. Toko, Byakuya, Kyoko and Hiro are searching elsewhere meaning there is a seventh student in the control room.
7. For his final motive, Monokuma gives each student a photograph of what?

Answer: Their fifteen fellow students

Monokuma announces the final motive will double as a hint and is entirely optional. Kyoko warns that they should just ignore it since it's likely to be a trap. However, Hiro, Byakuya, Hina and Makoto all go for it. Every student receives a different photograph from which the receiver is missing but the other fifteen students are present.

This causes Hiro and Hina to panic as each believes the other fifteen were conspiring against them the whole game.
8. When asked by Headmaster Kirigiri, the students agreed to be isolated inside the school.

Answer: True

Makoto finds a video taken by Headmaster Kirigiri during the days leading up to the Tragedy that destroyed the world. As headmaster, Kirigiri hoped to preserve hope by sealing his young, talented students inside the school until the Tragedy passed. Each student agreed to this but no one remembers doing so. Each remaining student also claims that he or she would never have agreed to it but the video proves otherwise.
9. How did Mukuro die?

Answer: From the days-old wounds on her body

In the previous chapter, the Monokuma file explicitly states Mukuro was already dead when the bomb blew up her corpse. The students later proved the knife wound was superficial and also occurred after death but they never determined the cause of death.

In the final class trial, the question of the days-old wounds on her body is brought up once again. Because the wounds were inflicted days before the body was found, it was believed they could have had nothing to do with her death but they are the only remaining option.
10. Which student did not have all of his or her memories erased?

Answer: Genocide Jack

Toko and her alter ego Genocide Jack, the serial killer, have a different set of memories that can overlap. However, when the students had their school memories erased prior to the killing game, only Toko's were removed not Genocide Jack's. Thus, Genocide Jack is able to confirm the students consented to be locked in the school and that the Tragedy did happen.

By contrast, Kyoko had more of her memories erased than anyone else. While most students only had their memories of their first two years at Hope's Peak Academy erased, Kyoko lost memories from earlier than that. This is because she is the Ultimate Detective and would have had an upper hand on the mastermind.
11. Makoto found items belonging to which two students in the second-floor dorm storage lockers?

Answer: Hiro and Kyoko

The second-floor dorm area is where sophomore students lived while attending Hope Peak's Academy. In the storage lockers, Makoto found several items belonging to Hiro including tarot cards, notebooks and other supernatural paraphernalia. In another locker, he found a note written by Kyoko.

This combined with the videos with the headmaster and the motive photographs proved once and for all that the students did attend Hope's Peak Academy (for two years, not one) and had their school memories erased.
12. At the end of the game, Makoto changes his title from the Ultimate Lucky Student to the Ultimate what?

Answer: Hope

Makoto was Class 78's lucky student, meaning he lacked a specific talent but was chosen by random lot from every eligible student in the country. However at the end of the Killing Game, Makoto becomes the face and inspiration of hope, having solved many of the murders and brought down the mastermind behind Monokuma. He calls himself the Ultimate Hope from this point forward.
13. Which student, previously thought to be dead, is revealed as the Mastermind?

Answer: Junko

Makoto and Kyoko determine the Junko everyone met at the beginning of the Killing Game was actually her twin sister Mukuro disguised as Junko. Early on, someone mentioned that Junko, the Ultimate Fashionista, didn't look the same way she does in magazines. Junko said that was because the photos are altered. However, the reason for the difference is because that Junko was actually Mukuro.

The sisters founded the Ultimate Despair and wanted to spread despair by showing the talented students of Hope's Peak Academy and the symbols of hope, in an utterly helpless situation. Junko controlled Monokuma while Mukuro masqueraded as Junko. The plan was for Mukuro to convince the other students to kill each other and demonstrate Monokuma's seriousness by attacking him. However, Junko betrayed Mukuro and killed her when she intentionally broke a rule. The wounds on Mukuro's body matched the wounds "Junko" received when she speared and since no other student had similar wounds, an impersonation was likely. In addition, Mukuro and Junko had the same measurements, making it easier for Mukuro to pass as her sister.
14. The Mastermind says they will execute themselves and allow all six remaining students go free or they can remain within the safe confines of the school but which person will be executed?

Answer: Makoto

Junko tells the students that the outside world is no longer the place they know and its much safer to stay inside the school. She will allow them stay in comfort and safety but Makoto will be executed. If the students decide to spare Makoto, Junko will execute herself which will cause the air purifier in the school to stop working and the students will be forced to leave the school and enter the unknown.
15. The students agree to remain in Hope's Peak Academy.

Answer: False

All six students agree they need to leave the academy to inspire hope within the remaining population. Some are skeptical the Tragedy even occurred and consider the possibility that Junko lied about the whole thing. Still, each student is frightened to reenter the world but know they must do so to become symbols of hope.
