The nurse's office, which had been locked until this point, is actually on the first floor and could been seen from the start of the game. In addition to the other rooms, the third floor also contains several classrooms, bathrooms, the art repository and a small storage room off the physics lab.

While the students split up, looking for clues and an escape route, Makoto finds a photograph in the art room of Mondo, Leon and Chihiro bonding. This is suspicious because not only because all three are dead but also because it appears to be taken within Hope's Peak Academy. However, the windows are not blocked by metal plates which means the photo was taken before the students were trapped. Yet, none of the students knew each other before that faithful day.

To add to the confusion, Makoto also finds a camera on the third floor that appears to belong to Hifumi. But the third floor had not been accessible until that morning so how did the camera get there?

Answer: Alter Ego

During the night, Hina was hungry wandered out of her dorm for donuts. A glowing green light coming from the bathhouse distracted her. When she went to investigate, she saw Chihiro's floating head. The next morning, Hina told the others about her discovery and they found a laptop in one of the lockers in the bathhouse. Before he died, Chihiro created an Alter Ego in a computer program. Alter Ego said he would search the school's data files to discovery why the students were there and a possible escape route. Everyone agreed to keep Alter Ego a secret from Monokuma.

Kyoko put herself in charge of Alter Ego's security to protect their new friend from Monokuma and because Taka and Hifumi were fighting over him. Hifumi fell in love with Alter Ego, apparently believing he was a female and a real person. Taka grew an incredible bond with Alter Ego after he helped Taka overcome the emotional damage of seeing Mondo executed at the last trial.

However, Alter Ego went missing. The blame was put on Kyoko but she defended herself by saying she left told Alter Ego to yell if Taka, Hifumi or Monokuma entered the bathhouse where he was stored. Kyoko heard no scream.

Answer: Robo Justice

Makoto found Celeste slightly injured in the rec room. She said she went out early to search for Alter Ego but someone in Robo Justice superhero costume attacked her. Robo Justice later kidnapped Hifumi who was later found badly injured in the library.

Some of the students split up to chase Robo Justice around the school. Hifumi was brought to the nurse's office to recover but was later heard screaming. Three students from him apparently dead in the nurse's office and the "body discovery" announcement rang out. At the same time, three other students found Taka's dead body in the back room of the physics lab.

Because the player is playing as Makoto and Makoto was part of the group that found Hifumi, it is assumed Hifumi died first. However when the chase resumes for Robo Justice, both Hifumi and Taka's bodies disappear in the chaos. During the class trial, Makoto and several others bring up the fact that Hifumi must have been alive when his body was discovered in the nurse's office because he was way too heavy to transport up two flights of stairs.

The only possible solution is that he moved himself and the "body discover" announcement that rang he was found was actually meant for Taka.

Answer: Art repository

Taka and Hifumi's bodies were discovered in the art repository which opened when the third floor was revealed but was mysteriously locked during the chase for Robo Justice. Hifumi, however, was still clinging to life before dying in Hina's arms.

Celeste was able to manipulate both boys by hiding Alter Ego in a nearby locker than the one he was normally housed in. She instigated the school wide search and knew Taka and Hifumi would be the most eager and thus get up earlier than the rest. Celeste tricked Hifumi into thinking Taka took Alter Ego and manipulated him into killing Taka. Then, together, they staged the scene with Robo Justice with each claiming the superhero attacked them. In reality, no such thing happened. Hifumi faked his injury in the nurse's office to appear dead in order for his "body" to be discovered at the same time Taka's was to provide him with an alibi.

However, Celeste double-crossed him. While Celeste led the others on a wild goose chase for Robo Justice, Hifumi retrieved Taka's body and moved it to the art repository and locked the door from the inside. When she had the chance, Celeste ran to the art repository and killed Hifumi. Celeste had to murder someone in order to graduate as simply being an accomplice to Taka's murder would not have been enough.

Hifumi had a habit of calling people by their last names so when Hina asked who attacked him, Hifumi would have said the person's last name. However, Yasuhiro is Hiro's first name and nobody has the last name Yasuhiro. Kyoko says everyone's e-handbook would list their true name. Celeste confesses that her real name is not Celestia Ludenberg (which everyone already knew) but Taeko Yasuhiro (which no one knew).

There is a minor plot hole involving how Hifumi knew what Celeste's real name that is never really explained in full.

Answer: The Burning of the Versailles Witch

Celeste confesses she killed Hifumi in order to claim the ten million dollars Monokuma offered the next murderer upon graduation. She readily accepts her fate which Monokuma suggests Celeste will appreciate because it's dramatic like she is. Her execution is called "The Burning of the Versailles Witch" in which Celeste is tied to a pole as flames erupt around her. Just as it appears she will be burned like witches of old, Monokuma comes speeding in on a fire truck, crushing her to death.
