Petrus gives you a copper coin the second time you talk to him. He offers to teach you miracle the THIRD time you talk to him. Also, it is Oswald of Carim who offers to absolve you of your sins. The soul of a proud knight is just a random lootable item.

2. Which in-game area connects New Londo and Darkroot basin to Blighttown?

Answer: Valley of the drakes

The Valley of the drakes can easily be accessed in the early game by people who have the master key. This allows early access to late game areas like Darkroot Garden and Blighttown. It is possible to connect this area to the New Londo Ruins as well.

The bosses are located in the room next to the giant blacksmith where the sentinels are located. They are extremely tough to beat but with enough perseverance you can defeat them. The trick is not to get disheartened (and summons)!

Answer: The Ash Lake

The reason for it being difficult to access is the fact that it is located it is protected by several illusory walls and the curse inducing Basilisks. It can only be accessed through the Great Hollow, which is located in a remote and treacherous part of Blighttown.
