Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Death can wield two types of weapon simultaneously. What is always designated as his primary weapon(s)?

Answer: Dual scythes

Death can attack foes with his characteristic scythes, that sometimes combine to create one scythe during some attack combos and whilst on horseback. A secondary weapon can be equipped to Death, allowing for new attack combos and some added bonuses. Axes and maces are heavy hitters but attack slowly, leaving Death's defences open for foes to take advantage of. Gauntlets see Death get up close and personal with his foes and allow him to let off a flurry of deadly punches. What gauntlets lack in damage output, though, they make up for in attack speed.

Other weapons can also be dropped by slain foes, found in chests, and obtained from merchants.
2. The currency of the first 'Darksiders' game was souls. What does Death make use of in 'Darksiders II' to facilitate transactions with merchants and skill trainers?

Answer: Gilt

Almost every enemy in the game has a chance of dropping gilt when killed, which Death can then collect and stockpile for use later. Scattered throughout the environment are Boatman Coins, which are used when purchasing items from Vulgrim, the demonic merchant who also assists War in 'Darksiders'. Completing quests rewards Death with experience and gilt, and selling weapons, armour and other items to merchants contributes to Death's gilt pool. Typically, skills obtained from trainers cost several thousand gilt each, so Death needs a decent sum if he wishes to truly master all his weapons.
3. When Death enters the Forge Lands, he meets an elder of the Makers. What is his name?

Answer: Eideard

In order for Death's quest to continue, he needs to reach the Tree of Life. Unfortunately for him, a spate of corruption blocks the way, but Eideard offers his assistance, provided Death can restore the Makers' Forge to its former glory. Once this task is complete, Death needs to awaken a Guardian to get rid of the corruption around the Tree of Life, but a battle ensues with the corrupted Guardian (giving off a very 'Shadow of the Colossus' vibe) and Death must destroy it and the corrupted heartstones which power it. Eideard uses the last of his power to reawaken the now-purified Guardian and finally clear the way to the Tree of Life.
4. In order to travel from one realm to another, Death passes through the portals of which arboreal structure?

Answer: Tree of Life and Death

In the Forge Lands and Lostlight, for instance, it is the Tree of Life, while in the Kingdom of the Dead and Shadow's Edge, it takes on the title of Tree of Death. Ultimately, though, the tree, regardless of which realm Death is in, performs the same function: allowing Death to traverse the various realms within the universe. Only Earth, the Kingdom of Man, does not contain a version of the Tree, since it was decreed by the Charred Council to be inaccessible.
5. Which labyrinthine dungeon in the Kingdom of the Dead features a horde of foes on each of its ten distinct levels, and climaxes with a tough battle against the dungeon's eponymous boss?

Answer: Soul Arbiter's Maze

On his travels, Death may come across clues indicating the paths he should take on certain levels of the Soul Arbiter's Maze. On their own, they may seem rather useless, but once Death enters the maze, they become invaluable. There is only one correct path for each level of the maze, and Death will face wave after wave of enemies until he finds the right route.

After ten increasingly difficult levels, Death squares up against the Soul Arbiter himself, one of the Lord of Bones' most powerful and persistent rivals.

A very heavy hitter, the Soul Arbiter's attacks are best evaded with efficient strafing and dodging. After what can be a rather long and harrowing fight, Death is rewarded with a set of Executioner's Hooks (a quick-hitting melee weapon) and a Crown of the Dead talisman (which increases the amount of gilt that Death finds by 50%).
6. After finishing in the Kingdom of the Dead and stepping through a portal thanks to the help of the Crowfather, Death finds himself at which 'angelic' outpost?

Answer: Lostlight

Here in Lostlight, Death seeks out the Archon in the Crystal Spire. In order to retrieve the Angel Key, one of two keys needed to open the Well of Souls, Death is given a series of taxing tasks. First, because the key is located in the corruption-infested Ivory Citadel, the Archon needs the Rod of Arafel, an ancient artefact, to clear the corruption and open the way to the citadel.

Unfortunately, the rod is in pieces, and scattered across Earth. Death makes his way to Earth, retrieves the pieces, reforms the Rod of Arafel, and returns to the Archon. Once the Ivory Citadel is accessible, Death ventures inside to find the Scribe and the Angel Key. But, after conquering the dungeon and coming face to face with the Scribe, Death discovers that the Archon has the key after all and that he was the cause of all the corruption in Lostlight.

A battle ensues and Death ultimately prevails, slaying the Archon and retrieving the Angel Key.
7. Amongst Death's various abilities is Interdiction. What exactly can Death do with it?

Answer: Control the three Lords of the Dead Court

Interdiction is really only used when Death is seeking out the three Lords of the Dead Court and bringing them to the Lord of Bones. The Interdiction ability can only be used when Death is standing upon an Interdiction Stone, where he can call forth a Lord of the Dead Court to aid him in taking down enemies or solving puzzles, the latter being mandatory in certain areas. Once Death has reunited the Dead Court, he receives an ability of his own called the Soul Splitter.

It essentially renders Interdiction useless, since Death can now split himself into two separate, moveable entities to solve puzzles that would otherwise be impossible to overcome with just one version of Death.
8. Which sort of weapon allows other weapons to be fed into it to increase its power?

Answer: Possessed

With the new loot system of 'Darksiders II' comes the ability to create extraordinary weapons from weapons. These special possessed weapons can be fed other weapons in order to increase their effectiveness in combat. As weapons are sacrificed, the possessed weapon gains a sort of experience.

As they 'level up', you are given the option of choosing a new upgrade for the weapon, be it more shock damage or increased critical hit chance, or more experience gain (for Death) per kill. The statistics of the sacrificed weapons also affect those of the possessed, such that feeding a weapon with at least one of the same statistics as the possessed weapon will result in a much higher increase of that statistic.

It might sound complicated, but it's an easy and surprisingly effective way of customising a weapon to your own personal preference.
9. Death can take a break from his quest and visit the Crucible, a gruelling arena challenge in which he faces wave after wave after wave of enemies. How many levels are there in the Crucible altogether (including the final boss fight which can't be reached until you finish the game and start again with New Game Plus)?

Answer: One hundred and one

Not at all for the faint-hearted, the Crucible will test Death's (and your) skills to the very maximum. During the first playthrough of the game, you will only be able to reach level 75 of this challenge. After completing the game and beginning again in New Game Plus mode (retaining all your existing experience, powers, equipment and the like), you can continue on to level 100, facing some of the toughest foes in the 'Darksiders' world. You would be forgiven for thinking that this torturous ordeal would end at a nice, round number like one hundred, but to cap it all off, the one hundred and first level features a fight against the enigmatic and altogether hard-hitting Wicked K, whom you may have encountered in the original 'Darksiders' game.

The Crucible doesn't come without its rewards, though. Death can receive some pieces of the Abyssal armour set, as well as some useful talismans.
10. Whenever Death levels up, he gains skill points, which are used to unlock and further improve his wrath abilities. These abilities are split between two distinct skill trees. What are these trees called?

Answer: Harbinger and Necromancer

Wrath is a form of energy that Death can tap into to unleash some powerful abilities. These abilities are unlocked by investing skill points into Death's skill trees. The Harbinger tree is focused around improving his overall damage on the battlefield, while the Necromancer tree is based around protection and calling forth minions to do Death's bidding. Death's wrath reserves are finite, though, so he can't spend the whole time using these abilities. Wrath can be replenished by killing enemies and having special wrath-related upgrades on his equipment, which might slowly regenerate wrath or provide wrath on critical hits.
