Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After starting a cinematic, in which Alyx Vance is saved by the Vortigaunts, and the mysterious G-Man is held back from Gordon Freeman, we see Alyx's robotic friend, Dog, save Gordon from a pile of rubble. After freeing him from the rubble what item does he return to Gordon?

Answer: The Gravity Gun

The Gravity Gun is arguably one of the most useful weapons in the "Half-Life 2" universe. First of all, it can pick up objects and use them as projectiles, and as seen in the game, it can be modified to actually pick up people and throw them around. The only drawback to it, is the fact that in most cases, it is useless against any moving object, like a zombie.
2. After getting a transmition from Alyx's father, Gordon and her try to find a way into the Citadel. Facing a gorge, both people are unsure as for what to do. In the end, Dog is the one who finds a way. What is it?

Answer: Throw both Alyx and Gordon over in a broken down van.

After Gordon thought of nothing, he is silent after all, Alyx suggests that Gordon somehow use the Gravity Gun to get them across. Dog shows up and disappears. Alyx, worried by that, then realizes what Dog was doing so she told Gordon to get out of the way of the trashed van. Dog wanted both of them to get inside, and he'd throw them across.

After clearing the canyon, both of them were in the Citadel. The building, already unstable after the core's current state, couldn't support the weight of the vehicle, so Gordon and Alyx took a 'rollercoaster-esque' ride through the tunnels and corridors of the Citadel before finally landing in a convenient location, unscathed.
3. After traversing through the multitude of twists and turns of the Citadel, Gordon and Alyx end up in the core of the Citadel. There Gordon wearing his HEV Suit, is forced to do what?

Answer: Stabilize the core

After traveling down a rickety service elevator to reach the core, both Alyx and Gordon immediately realized that something was wrong with the core. The stabilizer units had been overloaded, and the massive ball of energy had been inflated to several times its healthy size.

It was Gordon's job to get into the room, as his HEV Suit could protect him against radiation, and shrink down the ball of energy, as well as get the stabilizers back up and running. At best, the valiant struggles the player had to endure were merely a temporary solution.
4. After escaping on a train and fighting through legions of zombies in a subway station, Alyx and Gordon find a new type of zombie. It is a cross between a Combine and a regular zombie. What clever name did Alyx give to it?

Answer: Zombine

The zombine are essentially a cross between an alien Headcrab and a Combine soldier. What you get is a nasty zombie that runs fast, hits hard, and doesn't mind using live grenades to destroy you, or itself if you can run quickly. It is also difficult to kill.

The pistol is almost useless against it as it can take two entire clips before it is killed, and the shotgun may take two or three rounds before working.
5. After getting out of the dark, zombie-ridden underground system, Gordon and Alyx emerge top-side. After fighting their way to the top of a building, the two run into a Combine soldier that proves to be quite a nuisance. What makes that soldier so bad?

Answer: He's a sniper, and he can't be killed by bullets.

The sniper is categorized by his weapon, which emits a blue beam of light that acts as the crosshairs for the NPC. It can prove to be a difficult opponent for a beginner gamer, as the sniper almost never misses, and you can't just aim and fire at the sniper.

There are only two ways of destroying him. The first way is to throw a grenade into his perch, however, it is almost impossible to do that without sustaining critical damage. The next way is to get Alyx to activate the roller mines. After she does that, just throw them up to the sniper and watch him fly. That can be done without sustaining damage.
6. After maneuvering through even more streets and building interiors the characters run into a civilian with a weapon. The man takes them to their secret hideout. The man behind the magic of the hideout is a very familiar character to Gordon and the player alike. Who is he?

Answer: Barney Calhoun

Barney Calhoun, the hero of "Half Life: Blue Shift" makes his second return to the "Half Life" franchise by helping a bunch of rebels. He talks to Gordon and gives him the crowbar so he can fight hand to hand against enemies. He later helps Gordon escort the many citizens to the train station. The way he talks to Gordon, may indicate that they are friends.
7. After traversing through more building interiors Gordon and Alyx come to a hospital. After reaching its roof, both are shocked at something but Gordon swiftly takes care of it. What was it that caused them surprise?

Answer: A Combine Gunship

Immediately before you get into the hospital, the player encounters the gunship. It merely flies around the grounds until you get to a hallway where two combine soldiers are killing zombies. There, the gunship begins to attack you. After dodging its first stream of bullets, you will notice a rebel with a missile launcher get killed by the gunship. Hopefully that served as a helpful clue as the only way to destroy it is with a missile launcher.

It takes three hits before it plummets right into the roof, the location Gordon is.
8. After fighting their way through hordes of zombies, the two heroes escape the hospital and end up in another war-torn section of City 17. There they meet with an old friend who asks the two to help him escort civilians to the train station. How many groups of people does Gordon have to take before its over?

Answer: 4

The first group that needs to be taken, comprises of three rebel soldiers, and one medic. This wave is by far the easiest as there is no enemy resistance to slow you down. The second wave of rebels you have to escort comprises of two soldiers, a medic and ground infantry. Escorting them is still relatively easy as all you face are mines and small flying robots.

The third wave is pretty difficult, as there is a sniper guarding the opening. It is a tough sniper, like the previous one, but the player doesn't have the luxury of throwing up a mine.

This time, the player has to launch a rocket-propelled-grenade and take him out that way. Of course, to do that, the player has to put himself in the open. Afterwards, he gets the third wave of rebels comprising of four soldiers. To slow their progress, several Combine soldiers have been setup to fight you along the way.

The regular route will be blocked by a combine who puts debris in front of the path. Simply go around and kill any Combine you see.

After that's done, go back for the final group. Before any of them will ever move, the player has to take care of a Combine Armored Vehicle that fires a heavy machine gun, as well as missiles. It should take about 3-5 rockets to destroy it. Afterwards, the final escort session begins, but you have Barney to help you. After helping get to the train station, Barney and the other soldiers escape on the train, while Gordon and Alyx decide to go onto another train.
9. After all the rebels and civilians escape via the train, Gordon and Alyx are left to get out on another train. Gordon activates a crank to help Alyx through a garage door, but before Gordon can lock out the mechanism an enemy destroys the switch. This also turns out to be the final boss of "Episode One". What is it?

Answer: A Strider

The strider is a tough "War of the Worlds" like monster with three legs that fires a heavy machine gun from its head. Without skill, a low level player would be decimated by it, but with skill, and a little patience, the Strider becomes a lost puppy. In the game, you have to run from the Strider, all the while dodging the attacks. Maneuvering through different containers of a train, the player has to jump to a high ledge and run across it quickly.

After getting to the other end of the station, the one which Alyx is on, Gordon must destroy the Strider, so both can escape on the nearby train.

After 3-7 missiles, depending on the difficulty level, the Strider should be dead, and Alyx and Gordon can escape on the train.
10. After destroying the final boss and starting up the train, the player is aware that "Half Life 2: Episode One" had ended. Before the game cuts out and shows a preview of "Episode Two", the player witnesses the destruction of a key building seen several times in the game. What building was destroyed?

Answer: The Citadel

As Gordon and Alyx are going away on the train, the crumbling Citadel is in plain site. Shortly after noticing it, a bright white flash occurs, and the building crumbles down. Unaware of the explosion's animosity, the white blast that resulted because of the core's destruction, creates a wave that destroys everything in its path.

The bright light continues closes and closer to Gordon and Alyx, before finally enveloping them. There the game ends, and leaves the player guessing as to what occurs in "Half Life 2: Episode Two".

There is a preview for that game, after beating "Episode One", but what kind of a quizmaker would I be if I spoil that for you?
