Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gordon Freeman charges up at an HEV Charger

Answer: Half-Life

The iconic Gordon Freeman kicks off "Half-Life" by donning an orange-and-black HEV (Hazardous Environment) suit. As it turns out, the suit protects him during experiments that tap into the extra-dimensional world of Xen. The HEV suit includes a flashlight, Geiger counter, radio, long jump module, and of course, protection from damage.

When the suit gets damaged, he can recover at an HEV Charger.
2. Crono's health and magic all better with an Elixir

Answer: Chrono Trigger

Many RPG games feature characters that can cast magic, which in turn is limited by the character's magic points. Magic points are commonly restored with an Ether, or an Elixir, which restores both health and magic. Six of the seven playable characters in "Chrono Trigger" can use magic, including the main character Crono. Crono can cast light-based spells, the most powerful of which is Luminaire.
3. Blissey uses Heal Bell; whole team happy

Answer: Pokemon

Blissey was added to the world of "Pokemon" during the second generation of the critters, back around 1999. It is the evolution of Chansey, and like Chansey it has low offensive strength. The move Heal Bell was newly-added in Generation 2, and Blissey is one of the very few Pokemon that can learn it. Unlike other healing moves, it heals the user's entire team of status effects, allowing players to use Blissey as an effective wall.
4. Warrior binges on red Healing Potions while confronting red demon

Answer: Diablo

"Diablo" starts off with demons pouring forth from the ruins of the Tristram Cathedral. The protagonist is a warrior, rogue, or mage, and collects spells and weapons across randomized dungeons of four different types. At the end of the sixteenth level, the protagonist confronts Diablo himself, forcing him back into the Soulstone that originally contained him. Players make prodigious use of the red healing potions throughout the game, which are commonly dropped after defeating an enemy.
5. Link visits a fairy fountain

Answer: The Legend of Zelda

Fairies have been a part of the Zelda series since the beginning, and have always had the effect of healing Link to varying extents. "A Link to the Past" introduced fairy fountains to the series, where numerous fairies could be found to heal Link. This was also the first time one could capture a fairy in a bottle and save it for later use. Fairy fountains were followed by Great Fairy fountains, which granted Link certain items and abilities.
6. The Vault Dweller downs a Nuka-Cola

Answer: Fallout

Nuka-Cola is a mostly fictional* cola, made by the Nuka-Cola Corporation in the "Fallout" series. It was first introduced to the United States in 2044, and after the nuclear war of 2077, Nuka-Cola bottle caps became the most commonly used currency. Also in 2077, Nuka-Cola was followed up by Nuka-Cola Quantum, which glows blue due to the addition of the radioactive isotope strontium-90.

*In 2015, a 'real' Nuka Cola was made by none other than Jones Soda!
7. Mayor Haggar eats a roast chicken - from a trash can

Answer: Final Fight

The arcade game "Final Fight" takes place in Metro City, and wrestler-turned-mayor Mike Haggar runs the city pretty well. Mayor Haggar has to contend with with the Mad Gear Gang, who have kidnapped his daughter. Among the health-restorers available in the game is a whole roast chicken. Roast chickens are often found by busting open trash cans, which doesn't seem very sanitary, but they do make Mayor Haggar feel better.
8. Red Mage avoids death with a Phoenix Feather

Answer: Final Fantasy

The Red Mage is one of six different characters that can be used to create a team of four in "Final Fantasy." The team, known as the Warriors of Light, set out to defeat the Four Fiends on an unnamed world and then break a time loop created by the final boss, Chaos. Phoenix feathers do as their name suggest and allow for the revival of a fallen team member.

They were not present in the original NES version of "Final Fantasy" but were added in to the GBA version, "Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls".
9. Mercy makes everyone feel better with her Caduceus Staff

Answer: Overwatch

"Overwatch" is set in a world where Omnics (robots with artificial intelligence) started showing hostility towards people. In response to the Omnics, the United Nations created the Overwatch, a task force to fight off the Omnics and maintain the world order. An Overwatch team consists of six characters (out of a roster of thirty-two) that fit the role of Tank, Damage, or Support. Mercy is one of the Support characters.

She has an angelic appearance due to her Valkyrie Suit, allowing her to move with ease and heal other teammates.
10. A custom-made character drinks a potion

Answer: DnD

Really, it's probably not a surprise that the video game potion got its start in "Dungeons and Dragons" of all places. The item was present in the first edition of the game that was released in 1974. The text-based video game "DnD" was also made in 1974, and was released on the platform PLATO.

It featured maze-like levels, high-level monsters, and other basic ideas that have gone on to become foundational concepts in the sphere of video gaming.
