Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Kerbals are a civilization of weird green creatures that have decided to go to space. Which of a Kerbal's body parts is the largest?

Answer: The head

Kerbals look like little green Frankenstein's Monsters, with very large squarish heads and bulging eyes, but very short stubby bodies. They are much shorter than humans, but thankfully their entire world, Kerbin, is also much smaller than ours, as is their entire solar system.

They are very inquisitive creatures, if somewhat stupid and rash, and their primary pleasure in life is snacks of all kinds.
2. Who is the first pilot on your roster from the start of the game?

Answer: Jebediah Kerman

"Jebediah Kerman" was once a randomly-generated name for Kerbonauts in the early versions of the game, but he has gained so much popularity that he is now the first Kerbonaut you will have on your roster. Jebediah, along with Bill Kerman and Bob Kerman, are your first three Kerbonauts, who will likely fly all of your early missions (until you get them killed, of course). All Kerbals have the same last name, "Kerman".
3. How many moons does the Kerbals' homeworld have?

Answer: Two

Planet Kerbin has two moons, known as The Mün (which is very similar to our own moon) and Minmus (which is more like a small ball of green jelly than anything else). After exploring the atmosphere and orbit of Kerbin, most players will likely want to try and reach the Mun. It is significantly harder to reach Minmus, which is much further and orbits at an angle. Nonetheless, there is so much to do between Kerbin and the Mun that it could take days to run out of research opportunities.

Earth was also, at one point, thought to have a tiny second moon, known as Cruithne. However, since its orbit is only partially influenced by the Earth, it was eventually declared not to be a moon, but rather a minor planet.
4. What is the name of the sun around which Kerbin orbits?

Answer: Kerbol

The Kerbol is a small yellow star, just like our own. It is currently being orbited by 7 planets, and most of these already have additional moons that can be explored. In the future, it is likely that the Kerbol system will have even more planetary bodies. Even Kerbol itself can be explored, assuming you can get a probe close enough to it without burning up!
5. What happens if you build an aircraft in the rocket assembly hangar?

Answer: It will be set up for vertical launch, like a rocket.

"Kerbal Space Program" allows players to build both rockets and aircraft, using two different construction buildings. The difference is whether the vehicle will launch vertically or horizontally.

Rockets are often much easier to get into orbit, and it takes very little science to get powerful rocketry pieces. Space-planes, on the other hand, can return from missions intact and be salvaged entirely, which is very useful in the "Career" mode introduced in version 0.24. However, it takes quite a while to unlock a sufficient number of parts to make an actual plane that can get to orbit and back - not to mention other planets.
6. Which of the following IS NOT one of the science devices you can take on your missions?

Answer: Ant farm

There are many scientific devices that can be installed on your spacecraft, and the more you have, the more experiments you can make. Each successful experiment performed in an environment for the first time can yield a lot of science points, which are then used to unlock extra technology. If you can't bring an experiment back to Kerbin however, you may want to transmit it back home using an antenna - but this reduces the amount of science points you get.
7. Each planet is divided into regions where scientific experimentation can be performed. What are these regions called?

Answer: Biomes

The Mun currently has the largest number of different biomes, at 15. Each of these can be tested with a variety of scientific instrumentation, resulting in plenty of science points. The trick is to get a spacecraft to each biome to take those measurements. There are many possible solutions, and Kerbal Space Program encourages you to try as many as you can.
8. Which of the following IS NOT one of the standard rocket widths?

Answer: 1.0 meters

All stock rocket parts supplied with the base game come in 1.25m, 2.5m, and 3.75m radii. It takes some research to unlock the wider parts, but they are very much worth it for many reasons. Building ships, and trying to get them to actually work in the game's simulated environment, is the core of the game. It's like LEGO, except you can send it to space!
9. Name the planet closest to the sun.

Answer: Moho

As of version 0.25, the planets from the center of the Kerbol system are as follows:
1) Moho - A Mercury-like rock orbiting close to Kerbol.
2) Eve - A Venus-like planet covered with a thick, deadly atmosphere.
3) Kerbin - The Kerbal homeworld.
4) Duna - Like Mars, a small rocky planet with very little atmosphere.
5) Dres - A small ball of rock with a weird orbit, analogous to our Ceres.
6) Jool - A gigantic Jupiter-like green gas giant with many moons.
7) Eeloo - An ice-covered world, which may one day be a moon to a second gas giant based on Saturn.

Why not visit them all?
10. "Kerbal Space Program" was developed by "Squad". Where is this company based?

Answer: Mexico

"Squad" took over the project from its original creators, and has been developing it for several years. It is unknown whether the project will ever actually be finished, but "Kerbal Space Program" is already a much more developed and involved game than many "finished" games on the market today. "Squad" pay close attention to their fans and modding community, integrating some fan content into the game with each new version. With every iteration, "Kerbal Space Program" becomes more and more impressive.
