Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Metal Gear Solid", Where do you first see the DARPA Chief?

Answer: In the cell near the Torture Room

You first see the real DARPA Chief dead, precisely after your first Torture round. But you first see Decoy Octopus disguised as the DARPA Chief towards the start of the game, in a cell on the B1 floor of the Tank Hangar. He gives you some information about Metal Gear Rex and gives you a Security Level 1 card, and then tells you where to find President Baker. Towards the end of the cut-scene he dies mysteriously of something that looks like a Heart Attack. Later on in the game we find out this is a controlled disease that targets and kills specific people, called FoxDie.
2. Who is the eighth (8th) boss you fight in the game - not including the Torture.

Answer: Vulcan Raven

First you fight Revolver Ocelot, while trying to save President Baker, then you fight Vulcan Raven for the first time, in his Tank, then comes the Ninja, Grey Fox, while you try to save the Chief Engineer, Dr. Hal Emmerich. Next comes Psycho Mantis. This is the fourth (4th) boss in the game, and you may know this from experience of other "Metal Gear Solid" quizzes.

After Mantis comes Sniper Wolf. You may recall her shooting Meryl, and you having to run all the way back to find a Sniper Rifle to fight back. (Now comes the Torture, but, as I said, I don't include this.) Then comes Liquid in a Hind D. Next, you fight Sniper Wolf again, in a Snowfield and this time you kill her. Now you would Next you insert Disc 2.

The first battle you have on Disc 2 is with Raven.

This is the eighth battle.
3. The second fight you have in the Game is with Vulcan Raven in his Tank. How many people are in his Tank from as far as we can tell (including Raven himself)?

Answer: Three People

There's three people - firstly, Raven, of course. Then he goes back inside and a Guard in a white suit comes through the opening and you first fight and kill him. That takes approxiametly half of the Tank's life (if Tanks have life...) Once you kill him, he comes flying out of the top because of the impact.

A couple of seconds later, another Guard in a white Snowsuit comes through, and says, "See how you like this.". You kill him too, and when he comes flying out of the Tank no-one else appears. You take a Security Level 3 card from him and proceed into the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building. So, as far as we know, there were three people inside that Tank.
4. However, before your first fight with Raven, you call Meryl on your Codec, and after a long conversation you ask her to open the Cargo Door for you. What Codec Frequency is Meryl on?

Answer: 140.15

141.15 is a frequency I made up to try to confuse you, and 141.52 is Nastasha's codec frequency. You can call Nastasha to find out about weapons, and she can give you useful information when in battle, like advising what kind of weapon to use. 140.52 is another made up one frequency.
5. Later on, you start noticing that someone in the game is sending strange signals about Sniper Wolf. Who falls in love with her?

Answer: Otacon

Otacon hints that he likes Sniper Wolf several times throughout the game. First, when you see Wolf shoot Meryl and you head out for a Sniper Rifle, Otacon acts weirdly on the Codec. Then he talks about Wolf, when he comes to give you a few things in the Cell after the second round of Ocelot's Torture - He even asks you not to hurt her because she's a good person.

Then, the next time you're in battle with her out in the Snowfield, he tries getting between Snake and Wolf. And when Snake wins the battle, Otacon comes and, when she dies, tells Snake that he loved her but he couldn't protect her.
6. If we backtrack to the third boss you fight, the Ninja called Grey Fox, you manage to defeat him and you save the Chief Engineer, Dr. Hal Emmerich. He tells you that he's called Otacon, and he also tells you his Codec Frequency. Can you remember it?

Answer: 141.12

140.80 is Master Miller's codec frequency, who we find out towards the end of the game that he is actually Snake's rival yet twin brother, Liquid Snake. While Liquid is disguised as Master Miller, he tells you about the war whenever you call him. He also encourages you to find the PAL Card Key to "override" Metal Gear, but he is just pretending as this actually activates Metal Gear and prepares it to launch the Missile to China.
140.85 is Campbell's frequency, and he supports you and tells you where you should head off to. And finally, 141.16 is another of my made-up frequencies.
7. On Disc 2, Snake retrieves a Security Level 7 card, and this allows him to enter the Underground Maintenance base where Metal Gear Rex is kept. How does Snake obtain this card?

Answer: Vulcan Raven gives it to him before he dies

Aswell as the card, Raven also gives Snake a hint. He tells Snake that the man he saw die near the beginning of the game was not the DARPA Chief - it was Decoy Octopus, a member of FOX-HOUND, a man good at disguising himself to look like anyone he wishes.

He doesn't give Snake any more clues. But he does tell him that the path he takes has no end, and now that he is dying, his spirit will be a raven, and he will watch over Snake.
8. You can call Mei Ling on your Codec to save your game. The frequency you call is 141.96

Answer: False

You call Mei Ling on 140.96. Mei Ling usually tells you Chinese "Sayings", and towards the start of the game, Snake and Mei Ling had some sort of "liking" towards eachother. Until Meryl came along.
9. The first time Snake saw Meryl was during their first Codec conversation, when Snake needed the Cargo Door opened in the Tank Hangar.

Answer: False

Snake and Meryl's first Codec conversation is their second time seeing eachother. The first time Snake really sees Meryl is when Decoy Octopus died of FoxDie and then you step out of the cell and Meryl "captures" you, disguised in the enemy uniform.
10. Snake uses three PAL Keys to activate Metal Gear, when he thought the Keys de-activate it.

Answer: False

Snake only uses one card! For the rest of the game, he thinks he needs three cards, but at the end it turns out that the same card is made out of Shape Memory Alloy. That means the card changes shape at different temperatures - three Cards in one.
