Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following Pokemon is a pure Electric type?

Answer: Pikachu

Pikachu is known as the mascot of the "Pokemon" franchise. It is featured on 'Pokemon" merchandise more frequently than any other Pokemon.
2. The move Stone Edge would normally be 2x super-effective against which of the following Pokemon?

Answer: Rapidash

Stone Edge is a Rock type move. Rock type moves are super-effective against Flying, Bug, Fire, and Ice type Pokemon. Talonflame, which is Fire/Flying, is not 2x weak to Stone Edge, but 4x.
3. In the Generation III Hoenn Region games ("Ruby", "Sapphire", "Emerald"), where is Professor Birch's lab located?

Answer: Littleroot Town

Professor Birch's lab is located in Littleroot Town, but you meet him when he is being chased by a wild Pokemon outside of the town. He then asks you to help him and lends you a Hoenn starter of your choice, which he gives to you later on.
4. What is the effect of the Impish nature?

Answer: +Defense, -Special Attack

The Impish nature raises the Defense of a Pokemon while hindering its Special Attack. This nature is considered optimal for Pokemon such as Gliscor, which require high Defense and also do not utilize their Special Attack stat. The Bold nature, which raises Defense and lowers Attack, is considered less useful on Gliscor, as Gliscor is often equipped with physical moves such as Earthquake.
5. As of Generation 6, which of the following Pokemon has the lowest base Attack stat?

Answer: Snorlax

Mamoswine, Flareon and Breloom each have a base Attack stat of 130, while Snorlax's base Attack is 110.
6. What is the effect of the Wonder Guard ability?

Answer: Grants immunity to non-super effective moves

The Wonder Guard ability grants immunity to moves that are not super effective. The only Pokemon that can legitimately have this ability is Shedinja, a Bug/Ghost type. Its weaknesses are Fire, Flying, Rock, Ghost, and Dark. Shedinja is also known for having only 1 HP.
7. Which of the following moves does not have +1 Priority?

Answer: Extreme Speed

Extreme Speed has +2 Priority, while Bullet Punch, Aqua Jet and Mach Punch each have +1. Priority moves are very useful, as they provide slower Pokemon, such as Scizor, the means to attack first. However, priority moves generally have lower base power than moves in the normal priority bracket. Extreme Speed has 80 base power, while Bullet Punch, Aqua Jet and Mach Punch each have 40.
8. Which of the following items, when held, boosts the Defense and Special Defense of a Pikachu, but has no effect on a Raichu?

Answer: Eviolite

Eviolite is an item that boosts the Defense and Special Defense of a Pokemon that is not fully evolved by 50%. Since Raichu is fully evolved, it will not gain any benefits from holding an Eviolite. A Light Ball, although it effects Pikachu and not Raichu, doubles Attack and Special Attack, and not affect Defense or Special Defense.
9. What is the catch rate of an Ultra Ball?

Answer: 2x

The Ultra Ball has a catch rate of 2x, making it twice as powerful as a regular Poke Ball. A Great Ball has a catch rate of 1.5x.
10. As of Generation 6 ("Omega Ruby"/"Alpha Sapphire"), which of the following moves can Chikorita legitimately have?

Answer: Ancient Power

Chikorita can have Ancient Power as an egg move. A Chikorita with Ancient Power can be obtained by breeding a female Pokemon from the Chikorita evolution line with a male Tangela line, Rampardos line, Tyrantrum line, Aurorus line or Bastiodon line Pokemon that has Ancient Power.
