Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Shepard was asked to investigate the planet Aite. On the planet, Project Overlord was claiming that they were under attack from a rogue AI. Which organization was running Project Overlord?

Answer: Cerberus

Both the Human Alliance and the Citadel Council were known for performing ethically questionable experiments, but only Cerberus was truly evil. Cerberus was ready to torture and manipulate anyone, including its own operatives, to get the upper hand. They wanted to find a way to control the geth in the upcoming war, and accidentally created a rogue artificial intelligence that betrayed them.

Shepard was asked to go to Project Overlord and shut down the AI.
2. What was Shepard's first goal after landing on Aite?

Answer: Retract the transmission dish

The rogue artificial intelligence had already killed almost everyone working at Project Overlord, but it was still physically confined to the project site. It tried to transmit itself (being software) into the extranet through the project's giant transmission dish.

Shepard tried to retract it, but the AI overrode the instructions. Shepard was left with no choice but to physically destroy the dish.
3. The goal of Project Overlord was to interface an organic brain with a geth collective to control them. The volunteer, David, had autism spectrum disorder and was a mathematical savant. How was David related to Dr. Archer?

Answer: Dr. Archer was David's brother

Dr. Gavin Archer was a brilliant scientist who was charged by the Illusive Man to find a way to control the geth. He was also looking after his younger brother. While working in the lab, one day, the scientists were becoming frustrated with their geth subject, when David suddenly emmulated the geth's speech. David, with his unique brain, was able to understand the geth's mathematical language. He became the link between humans and the geth.

Dr. Archer never intended to hurt David, but he lost touch with what he was doing. Dr. Archer later said, "It's not like I planned this. It was an accident. Seeing David communicate with the geth? It all seemed harmless."
4. Project Overlord was spread across a few separate stations. How did Shepard move to the different stations?

Answer: Hammerhead

The Hammerhead was a new vehicle in "Mass Effect 2" to replace the Mako from "Mass Effect". It was originally added in the "Firewalker" DLC, but players did not need "Firewalker" to use it in the "Overlord" DLC. Unlike the Mako, the Hammerhead hovered over land and water, and fired homing missiles, instead of a machine gun and a mass accelerator cannon.

The Kodiak shuttle was the shuttle on board the Normandy. The crew used it to get to a planet's surface, because the new SR2 was too big to land. Skycars were used on all civilized worlds (and a few uncivilized ones), including the Citadel, Omega, and Illium. Trams were used on Noveria at the Peak 15 research labs, in "Mass Effect".
5. While moving between the different stations of Project Overlord, Shepard could complete some optional tasks. What could Shepard collect while out on the surface of Aite?

Answer: Data packages

The Hammerhead could pick up resources in the field. Usually it was used to extract resources, but on Aite, Shepard could recover Cerberus Data Packages. The only reward for collecting all six data packages was some extra experience points and the Data Hound achievement. It did encourage exploration of Aite, which was a beautiful planet, despite the AI trying to kill everything.

Valuable Minerals was an assignment in "Mass Effect", for which Shepard gained small amounts of experience points for finding rare minerals on explorable planets.
6. What new weapon was Shepard able to pick up during the Overlord mission?

Answer: None

In "Zaeed - The Price of Revenge", Shepard got a flamethrower, and in "Kasumi - Stolen Memory". Shepard got the Locust SMG. Unfortunately, in "Overlord", no new weapons were added to Shepard's arsenal. The three weapons listed in the incorrect answers were from "Firepower" pack, released two months after "Overlord".
7. All four stations of the Overlord project were named after figures from which pantheon?

Answer: Greco-Roman

The four stations of Project Overlord were named: Hermes, Vulcan, Prometheus, and Atlas. Hermes was the messenger god, and Hermes Station was where the project's off-world communications and transportation systems were. Vulcan was the god of fire, and Vulcan Station was the project's geothermal power plant. Prometheus was the titan who gave humans fire, while Prometheus Station was a crashed geth ship. Prometheus Station was where Cerberus acquired the geth they needed for their experiments. Atlas was the titan who held the world on his shoulders, and Atlas Station was the heart of Project Overlord, where David and the rogue artificial intelligence were housed.
8. To keep his mind occupied, what would David compute in his head?

Answer: Square roots

To calm himself while the scientists were bickering, David would recite square roots. After being defeated, David reconnected with his brother by saying, "The square root of 906.01 equals..." and letting his brother finish with, "30.1".

David repeated a square root, and his brother's feelings about the experiments over and over. "Square root of 912.04 is 30.2... It all seemed harmless..."

Shepard had the option to either continue the experiments, or to take David away to the Alliance's Grissom Academy. IF David was sent to Grissom, Shepard could meet him again in "Mass Effect 3". When Shepard found David, he said, "The square root of 906.01 equals.", to which Shepard responded, "30.1". This convinced David's new friends that Shepard could be trusted.
9. When Shepard disabled the transmission dish and cornered David himself, what did the AI try to do?

Answer: Upload itself to the Normandy

Everything near Aite had gone dark, and most of the staff had been killed. The rogue AI wanted to upload itself to the extranet, but Shepard destroyed the transmission dish. Without the giant dish, the AI looked for the next best option, and found the Normandy in orbit.

The Normandy was close enough for an upload, and could house an AI (it already had EDI). Shepard had to stop the AI before it could upload to the Normandy, commandeer all its systems, kill the crew, and escape.
10. What was interesting about Shepard's final fight with David?

Answer: Shepard fought alone

Through almost all of "Mass Effect 2", Shepard brought along two squad members. At the end of "Overlord", Shepard was sucked into seeing a virtual world, and guided towards David, while the rest of the squad was locked away. Shepard was able to see David's memories of the events leading to the rogue AI's creation, and saw that David had been coerced into helping, and ultimately tortured.

When Shepard destroyed the AI's core, the virtual reality faded away, and Shepard saw the true horror of what had happened to David.
