Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mission 6: The Jade Moon. The Rogues learned about an Imperial supply outpost on the Jade Moon. Who provided the intelligence and planned the mission?

Answer: Kasan Moor

Kasan was part of the Imperial 128th TIE Interceptor Squadron, an elite squadron comparable to the Rogues. She flew against the Rogues in the mission preceding this one. She had grown disillusioned with the Empire, and when her craft was disabled, she was ready to trade information for her life.

She gave the Rogues information on the Imperial supply outpost on the Jade Moon. Luke let her fly an X-wing with the Rogues, but Wedge was still skeptical of her loyalties. After a few missions to prove her allegiance to the Rebels, Wedge warmed up to her, the the three pilots formed the core of the squadron for the rest of the game.
2. Mission 6: The Jade Moon. While Rogue Squadron provided air cover, who was on the ground leading the tanks and commandos?

Answer: Crix Madine

Crix Madine was played by Dermot Crowley in the movie "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi". In "Rogue Squadron", after he joined the Rebel Alliance, he often led ground forces during missions, with the Rogues flying cover.

Kapp Dendo was a Devoronian Rebel commando who appeared often in the "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron" comic series, by Michael A. Stackpole. Judder Page was the leader of a different Rebel commando team who appeared in many different "Star Wars" novels. Pash Cracken was a Rebel fighter pilot who also appeared in lots of "Star Wars" novels.
3. Mission 7: Imperial Construction Yards. The Rogues mostly reacted to Imperial attacks, or protected small worlds that wanted to leave the Empire. Finally, the Rogues were tasked with assaulting a major Imperial target to hurt the Imperials directly. In order to approach the construction yards without alerting the Imperials, what did the Rogues do?

Answer: Destroyed sensor dishes during the approach

The Rogues approached the construction yards in snowspeeders through a narrow canyon to avoid detection. The canyon was lined with sensor dishes that had to be destroyed before the incoming fighters could be detected.

This mission took place on Balmorra, which was a planet seen frequently in the Expanded Universe, initially in the "Dark Empire" comics. The developers also included V-wings and World Devastators from the comic in "Rogue Squadron".
4. Mission 7: Imperial Construction Yards. What was the Empire manufacturing at the Imperial Construction yards?

Answer: Walkers and TIEs

The Imperials were constructing AT-ATs at the construction yards, so players had to fly Snowspeeders so they could use tow cables (even though no AT-ATs had to be destroyed to win the mission). Because Snowspeeders didn't carry any heavier ordnance (like bombs or torpedoes), the factories had to be destroyed using lasers.

The construction yards were building walkers and TIEs, but players only needed to destroy the walker factories to complete the mission.
5. Mission 8: Assault on Kile II. After the success on both the Jade Moon and the Imperial Construction Yards, the Rogues got a taste for taking the fight to the Empire. For their next mission, they planned a bold assault on a large Imperial garrison and a sensor array on Kile II. X-wings did not have the firepower needed for the destruction the Rogues were planning. What did the Rogues fly on Kile II?

Answer: Y-wings

This was the first time players got to fly a Y-wing themselves in "Rogue Squadron". Y-wings were slow craft with heavy armour. They also had two special weapons instead of the usual one. They had ion cannons to disable enemies, and carried twenty proton bombs for destroying ground targets.

Y-wings were first seen in the very first movie, "Episode IV: A New Hope", during the attack on the Death Star.
6. Mission 8: Assault on Kile II. Which member of Rogue squadron was shot down and captured during the assault on Kile II?

Answer: Wedge Antilles

Near the end of the mission, Hobbie called in to say Wedge was ambushed by a swarm of TIE Interceptors. Despite sustaining heavy fire, the Y-wing stayed intact, and Wedge was able to set down. He was then captured by the Imperials.
7. Mission 9: Rescue on Kessel. While the Rogues were on their rescue mission, they modified their ships specifically for the job. What was different about the X-wings in "Rescue on Kessel"?

Answer: They had ion cannons

This was the only mission in the game in which a starfighter's standard load out was changed. When flying an X-wing in this mission, instead of the secondary weapon being the usual proton torpedoes, players had ion cannons. Ion cannons were used to disable targets, rather than destroy them. Considering this was a rescue operation, the Rogues did not want to risk blowing up their friend.
8. Mission 9: Rescue on Kessel. On Kessel, the Rogues tracked down their imprisoned comrade. In what was the captured Rogue being transported to the prion?

Answer: A Hover Train

Wedge was being transported to a prison on Kessel via hover train. The Rogues ambushed and disabled the train before it reached its destination. They had to shoot the train with lots of ion blasts to slow it down, and eventually stop it, while also taking out walkers and turrets to get enough kills for the gold medal.
9. Mission 10: Prisons on Kessel. Escort duty was common for the Rogues. What were the Rogues trying to protect in this mission?

Answer: Madien's Shuttle

Kessel's notorious spice mines were first referenced in "Episode IV: A New Hope" by C-3PO. They were used as labour camps by the Empire to harvest the highly valuable glitterstim spice. Kessel appeared in a lot of Expanded Universe materials, but was probably most fleshed out in the "Jedi Academy" trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson in 1994.

Madien was once again running the ground troops while the Rogues flew cover. He flew his shuttle to four separate prison buildings, offloaded his troops, and then waited for the troops and prisoners to return. The Rogues had to destroy turrets, TIEs, and stromtroopers to ensure victory (and the gold medal required more than 100 kills).
10. Mission 10: Prisons on Kessel. The Prisons of Kessel was the epitome of a Rogue Squadron mission. Lots of enemies everywhere, neigh-impossible odds, and a constantly changing situation. To pull off these kinds of missions, the Rogues needed a reliable fighter that could be effective in any situation. Which ship did the Rogues pilot during this mission?

Answer: X-wings

The X-wing was often portrayed as the most balanced and reliable fighter of all the Rebel starfighters. Y-wings were slower, but had more armour and firepower (often relegated to a bomber role), while A-wings were fast interceptors with weak shields. This breakdown of fighters has been seen in many other "Star Wars" games, such as the "X-wing" series, the "Battlefront" games, and other "Rogue Squadron" titles.

The Rogues continued to use the X-wing well into the future of the Expanded Universe.
