Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these best describes "Streets of Rage"?

Answer: Beat 'em up game

"Streets of Rage" was the first game in the "Streets of Rage" trilogy and was released by Sega in 1991. It was set in a large city which had been taken over by a crime lord.
2. The aim of the game is to rescue a large city which has been taken over by crime gangs. The criminal activity can all be traced back to one man. The name of this man is not known, so what name is used to refer to him?

Answer: Mr. X

The game begins by explaining that the city in question was once happy and peaceful, but is now rife with crime and violence. There are several gang members encountered during the game, complete with colourful jackets, spiky hairdos, and enormous motorbikes (well, it was the early 90s).
3. You are offered the choice of three player characters in "Streets of Rage". Two are Adam and Blaze. Who is the third?

Answer: Axel

Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Adam Hunter are former members of the police force which unfortunately fell under the control of Mr. X. As such, they feel they have a duty to save the city. Each has a preferred fighting style. Axel is described as a martial artist, while Blaze specialises in Judo and Adam in Boxing.
4. The character selection screen provides some vital statistics for each character. This grades the character's power, speed, and which other quality?

Answer: Jump

None of the three characters is perfect across the board. For example, Blaze's weakness is her power, whilst Axel has a poor jump and Adam lacks speed. By playing in two-player mode, however, the characters can compensate for one another's shortcomings.
5. The game takes place over 8 levels. Which of these is not a level backdrop in "Streets of Rage"?

Answer: An aeroplane

I refrained from using "street" as an option as this would have just been too easy :).There are several areas of the city which the characters patrol, dispatching violent gang members, before moving onto more exotic locations like the beach (complete with beach litter) and a rather grand looking ship. Throughout each level, players can knock over various obstacles (such as phone boxes and stacks of tyres) to reveal various items which can restore health or increase your points score.
6. There are many enemies in "Streets of Rage" and most of the levels challenge you to face a "sub-boss", none of which are actually named. Which of these is not a sub-boss in "Streets of Rage"?

Answer: Crazy farmers driving combine harvesters

While playing in two-player mode offers the advantage of compensating for each other's weaknesses, the game simply doubles the number of enemies you have to face, meaning you fight two sub-bosses at the end of each round, rather than just one. As well as those listed in the answer options, other sub-bosses include boomerang-throwing hooligans and speedo-wearing wrestlers.
7. True or False? When in two-player mode, the characters may work together to perform attacking moves on their opponents.

Answer: True

This may be seen by some as a help, but it was always something of a hindrance to me. One player can hold the other, acting as a platform for the second player to perform high kicks. It was possible for players to accidentally (or purposefully) hit each other and cause damage, which may cause a little tension between the supposed comrades.
8. Throughout the game, you are offered a wide range of weapons which you can pick up and use against your enemies. Which of these is not one of the weapons available in "Streets of Rage"?

Answer: Gun

There are no range weapons in "Streets of Rage", but you can get a pretty good swing with the pipe, and even throw a bottle. The game also offers golf clubs and samurai swords. Each weapon has a limited use, meaning you can only make a certain number of hits before the weapon is used up (e.g. the bottle smashes, or the pipe becomes bent).
9. If things get a little tricky, you are allowed to use a special power. Which special power is this?

Answer: Calling in police reinforcements

As stated in the introduction, the police are largely under the control of Mr. X, but there is a small number still willing give their assistance when you are in need. The enemies accommodatingly freeze as a police car pulls up and fires projectiles at them, causing massive damage and clearing your path. Even when fighting on the beach or on a boat, the police are happy to drive their car in (seemingly from nowhere) and help you out.
10. After beating all the sub-bosses and countless henchmen, most of which have the same crew-cut hairstyle, you face the final boss. When playing in two-player mode, which of these things happens at the final stage of the game?

Answer: One player is offered the chance to turn against the other

In two-player mode, the game takes a devilish turn after you reach the office of Mr. X. One player is offered the chance to betray the other and join forces with Mr. X, becoming part of the criminal institution that you have fought against throughout the game. I'll never forget when my brother accepted Mr. X's evil offer, betraying his younger (and only) brother.

However, he wasn't laughing for long, as with me out of the picture, he was then betrayed by Mr. X and had to fight him alone (he lost).
