Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Engineer was the only class that received no weapons during "The Über Update".

Answer: True

Yes, indeed, "The Über Update" included new weapons for every class but the Engineer. It was released on June 23, 2011, and the update also made the game free forever. What are you waiting for? Go download "Team Fortress 2" for free!
2. An alternate to his standard Shotgun, The Frontier Justice can bank guaranteed critical hits from sentry gun kills. What must happen before the Engineer can use them?

Answer: His sentry must be destroyed

These critical hits, known as "revenge crits," can be particularly helpful with the mini sentry, which is more easily destroyed. Kills earn the Engineer two guaranteed criticals, and assists earn him one. They can help the Engineer to be a more formidable foot soldier. Its downside is a 50% reduction in ammo compared to the standard gun, which has 6 shells.
3. Enough of these fancy new weapons! With the classic Wrench equipped, how much does it cost the Engineer to build a sentry?

Answer: 130 metal

After placing the sentry with 130 metal, it'll take the Engineer another 400 metal to upgrade it all the way to level 3. Metal can be picked up from fallen players' weapons, metal pickups, or dispensers. A level 3 sentry has rapid fire turrets and rockets, so it's a significant advantage over the level 1 sentry, which has but a single barrel and fires rather slowly. With its automatic aim, a sentry is a great defensive weapon, and level 3 sentries can keep most classes from making any progress if it's placed well.
4. Okay, maybe those new weapons are kinda handy. Since the sentry only fires at enemies in a certain range, Demomen and Snipers can be in clear sight and lay waste to your machines from just out of range. What weapon was introduced to let the Engineer aim his sentry manually and deal with these pests?

Answer: The Wrangler

While in use, the Wrangler lets the Engineer control his sentry, and it also places a shield around the sentry that absorbs 66% of incoming damage. The Wrangler loads out in the weapons slot traditionally used for the Pistol, which means the obvious downside is the lack of a secondary field weapon if the Engineer is away from his sentry. Also, if the Engineer is killed while using the Wrangler, the sentry will be inactive for several seconds.

This makes it particularly easy for the Spy to backstab an Engineer and have plenty of time to sap his sentry with his Electro-Sapper without the usual danger of being automatically targeted by the sentry.
5. Engineers can die by which building other than their sentries?

Answer: Teleporter exit

Yes, in fact, this will work against any class. This is called a telefrag. If any class stands on the exit of a teleporter that is used by a member of the enemy team, they will die as soon as the enemy pops through the exit. This is why it is a horrible idea to build a teleporter exit near a sentry setup. Since Spies can take enemy teleporters, doing so gives them easy access to said setup. Furthermore, if you happen to stroll across your teleporter just as a Spy takes it, he'll kill you, making his job that much easier. Of course, the Wrangler is not a building.
6. What variety of problems does the Engineer claim to solve?

Answer: Practical

"Hey, look, buddy, I'm an Engineer, and that means I solve problems. Not problems like 'what is beauty' because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems." - The Engineer

That line is taken from the "Meet the Engineer" video. He then goes on to basically say that he uses his mechanical smarts to keep himself from getting killed on the battlefield.
7. What is the Engineer's class emblem?

Answer: A wrench

The Sniper's class emblem is a crosshair. The other two options are made up. The wrench is a reference to the Engineer's default melee weapon, the Wrench. An integral part of his arsenal, it allows him to significantly decrease the amount of time it takes for a building to build (versus letting it build on its own), and it must be used to repair, upgrade, and reload buildings. Additionally, it's a nice weapon to use to check for Spies.
8. The "Team Fortress 2" instruction manual is nothing but the operations manual for which building?

Answer: Sentry gun

Although the teleporter and dispenser buildings are mentioned in the manual, they are only ads. Indeed, "Team Fortress 2" received criticism at its launch for being both a deep game and not being terribly self-explanatory. This was not helped by a manual that was was essentially a novelty item. Since then, the game has received numerous patches. Among them was a patch that included a training mode and an offline mode to help new players get the hang of each class.
9. Although many know him as Engie, what is the Engineer's real name?

Answer: Dell Conagher

Dell Conagher was first revealed as the Engie's name in the webcomic "Loose Canon", which was posted to the game's webpage in preparation for and to generate interest in the "Engineer Update". In the same comic, it was revealed that Radigan Conagher was the Engineer's grandfather. Blutarch and Redmond Mann are the owners of BLU and RED respectively.

They are at constant war with each other over the land left to them by their father, Zepheniah Mann. This information, too, was originally found in the aforementioned webcomic.
10. Complete this unusual Engineer line. "Cream..."

Answer: Gravy

This peculiar Engineer line has been a source of humor in the community. It is sometimes played over player's microphones nonstop (known as "micspamming") or at other humorous moments.
