After doing a fair amount of healing his teammates, the Medic can activate the fearsome ÜberCharge. This word, meaning supercharge or overcharge in German, means serious problems for the opposing team and is particularly effective at handling enemy Engineers and their buildings.

Although Valve has patched in things like the Pyro's compression blast to make neutralizing an ÜberCharge slightly easier, they are still a veritable menace. It is no wonder they take a good amount of effort to execute.

The April 29, 2008 patch, better known as the "Gold Rush Update" or "Medic Update", included a huge overhaul for the entire game. It included the new Payload game mode and began the series of class updates that would not end until 2010. Because it patched in three new Medic weapons, it also included a new item management system and gave players the ability to decide what weapons they wanted to use.

The items could be earned through a class-based achievement system that was also introduced in the update.

The update, however, was experimental. It originally required the player to do the incredible feat of earning all 36 of the Medic's achievements to unlock the Übersaw, the replacement for the Bonesaw. Valve later changed it to only 22. Additionally, many of the achievements had requirements far more strenuous than they have today. Fortunately, Valve cares greatly about its community and continues to treat the game with bug fixes and additional content such as this massive update, all for free.

Yes, upon a successful melee strike with the Übersaw, the Medic instantly earns a 25% charge boost on his ÜberCharge meter. Many see this perk as a straight upgrade from the original Bonesaw, even though the Übersaw swings 20% more slowly.

Although regeneration starts at 3HP/second immediately following the Medic taking damage, if he waits 10 seconds, his regeneration rate will reach 6HP/second. If the Medic elects to use his Blutsauger instead of his standard Syringe Gun, he will sacrifice 2HP/sec from this regeneration.

Instead, he'll be able to recover 3HP for every needle he fires that makes contact with an enemy. Additionally, if the Medic equips the Medieval Medic set (Crusader's Crossbow and Amputator combined), he will be able to regenerate up to a whopping 7HP/second.

He can, in fact! The Medic is fully capable of healing a disguised enemy Spy. Since he'll appear just like a regular teammate, the Medic may be none the wiser, but some players use this ability to "grief" their teammates, which means to intentionally play badly for the sake of annoying one's team. Perhaps funniest of all, a panicking Medic may even be led to deploy an ÜberCharge on an enemy Spy! This has happened to me a handful of times, and it's always good for a laugh. From a Spy's perspective, the best way to dupe a Medic into ÜberCharging you is by disguising as a common Medic buddy, such as a Heavy or Soldier.

Indeed, the Bonesaw is a bit worthless. Any player that has The Amputator should never, ever use the Bonesaw. The Amputator has all the same stats as the Bonesaw, but when the player taunts, a healing aura forms around the Medic that heals teammates. Although it is generally much better, the Übersaw does have a slight attack speed decrease, so it's not proper to call it a "straight upgrade." The Vita-Saw, which retains up to 20% ÜberCharge on death, also has a downside insofar as it reduces the Medic's health by 10.

The Blutsauger is not a melee weapon!

The name might have given away this one. This is one of the few ranged attacks possible in Medieval Mode, which was introduced in the "Australian Christmas Update". Generally speaking, only melee weapons are allowed, but the Medic can use his Crusader's Crossbow, and the Sniper can use the Huntsman. Additionally, the Scout's Sandman, a melee weapon, has the ability to launch long range baseballs.

The Medic is advised to use The Amputator here for the purposes of healing, for he cannot use any variation of the Medi Gun.

He provided the voice for Travis Touchdown of "No More Heroes" (2008, Wii), provided several voices for "Fallout: New Vegas" (2010, PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), and has worked with several other games. Dennis Bateman, who has also worked beyond "Team Fortress 2" provided the Spy's voice. John Patrick Lowrie voiced the Sniper. Finally, Gary Schwartz did voice acting for the Heavy.
