Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This game offers three significantly different difficulty levels that determine many factors in the game, including how many dungeons are available, and even which endings you can get. Which of these was not an available difficulty?

Answer: Extreme Purify

In each difficulty level, there are various differences. First off, you will gain varying amounts of experience points from the enemies depending on your level. Also, the dungeons that appear in each mode vary, and there are more characters available in the harder modes. Another key difference is starting level. If on hard mode, every character you recruit starts at level 1, and you must spend more time leveling that member up, where as on the easier levels, they start closer to the level your current party has.
2. This game is based heavily off Norse Mythology, where a Valkyrie, one of Lord Odin's maidens, conducted the souls of the slain to Valhalla. In this game, you play as a battle-maiden who goes by what name?

Answer: Lenneth Valkyrie

Lenneth Valkyrie is known as the "Chooser of the Slain". She is in all but a few battles in this game, and she can be your most useful character if you equip her correctly.
3. This game uses a unique time system where you complete eight chapters. In each chapter there are 24 periods of time, and each dungeon or town you enter uses up a certain number of periods. When all chapters are complete, it is known as...

Answer: Ragnarok - the beginning of the end of the world

Whether or not you complete the optional dungeons in each chapter, the game will still progress. Obviously, if you choose not to complete them, you will miss a lot of the story, and you will not be strong enough to face the more difficult enemies in the later chapters.
4. Unlike most role-playing games, you don't have HP (health points) in this game because all of your party members are... well... dead. Instead, you have DME, which is what?

Answer: Divine Materialize Energy

This game featured various strange differences from standard RPGs, like DME (Divine Materialize Energy), PWS (Purify Weird Soul), CT (Charge Time), MP (Materialize Points), and CP (Capacity Points).
5. All characters in this game have a Hero Value, except for Valkyrie, who has a Seal Rating. The Seal Rating determines...

Answer: ...how much control Odin has over the goddess Valkyrie

Valkyrie's Seal Rating determines how much control the Lord Odin has over Valkyrie. At the beginning of the game, Valkyrie has a ring she wears called the Nibelungen Ring that proves her loyalty to Odin. Her Seal Rating drops or raises depending on whether she is wearing it for each sacred phase (the summary between chapters).
6. When you have concluded a chapter, you interact with the Giver of Life, a goddess known as...

Answer: Freya

Freya praises your performance, gives you information on those who you sent up to Asgard, and grants you many materialize points and artifacts based on how well you met Odin's requirements for the previous chapter. In Norse Mythology, Freyja (meaning "Lady") was one of the highest goddesses of the Aesir, and before
the war, a goddess of the Vanir.
7. In this game, you recruit many people. They are heroes who died, some bravely, and some not as much. They are chosen by Valkyries, who then escort them to Valhalla. What are these people called?

Answer: Einherjar

According to Norse Mythology, the Einherjar are the heroes who died as brave warriors on the field of battle. They are chosen by Valkyries, who then escort them to Valhalla. There, half of them are taken by Freyja, while the remaining half stay with Odin in the
hall of the slain (Valhalla). Every morning, they are awakened by the crow of the cock Gullinkambi. During the day, they train by fighting with the other Einherjar, and are also given advice by the gods. At night, they all gather in Valhalla with Odin to feast. Afterwards, their wounds are miraculously healed, for them to start another day of training. During Ragnarok, the beginning of the end, they will fight alongside Odin in the war to end all wars against the giants. In case you are wondering, as they are brought up many times in this game, Aesir means "god", while Vanir means "friend". The Aesir are the main race of gods in Norse Mythology who live in
Asgard at the highest level of the universe, while the Vanir are the second race of gods who live in Vanaheim, which is located on the same level as Asgard. They are a race of wild nature and fertility gods, who lived more peacefully with the earth.
8. During the prologue that you can select from the main menu, you see a story between a boy named Lucian and a girl named Platina. Lucian sneaks into Platina's bedroom to inform his childhood friend that her parents have sold her. They run away and end up in a poisonous field that take Platina's life because it is covered with what?

Answer: Weeping Lilies

The prologue is very sad... here is an excerpt from it:

Platina: "It's so beautiful! Do you think this might be... Heaven?"

Lucian: "It's bad luck to say such things!"

Platina: "Tee hee. I'm sorry."

Lucian: "These flowers... they're... Platina! We've got to get out of here! These flowers, all of them, they're... Weeping Lilies!"

Platina: "Weeping... Lilies?"

Lucian: "That's right! If we stay here, their poison will kill us! ...Platina?"

Platina: "If I were to fall asleep here, would I be able to just... slip away?"

Lucian: "Wh...What..."

Platina: "I can't stand it any longer! No matter how hard I've tried... Mother and Father have never treated me with kindness! If you care about me so much, Lucian. Do you think... Do you think we might be reborn? That we might be reborn... together?"

Lucian: ....

Platina: "I'm so glad to have known you, Lucian. But I have too many awful memories. I just want to forget. Forget...it...all..."

[Platina collapses.]

Lucian: "No! Wake up! I won't have it! You want me to forget!? Would you forget me too, Platina---? Platina? PLATINA!"
9. What is the name of the necromancer that loves the goddess Valkyrie?

Answer: Lezard Valeth

After Valkyrie and Lezard fight, Valkyrie is very adamant on the fact that love cannot exist between human and gods. Lezard Valeth expands the story into greater depths by saying "What did you just say? Between human and god? You really don't have any idea what you are, do you?"
10. Finally, we conclude with a question of true Norse Mythology that was covered in "Valkyrie Profile". There is a place that is home to the human race, and it is also the name of their chief city. It is one of the nine worlds, located below Asgard and above Nifleheim in the universe. The gods look over it, protecting humans from other outside forces. It is here that the Valkyries choose suitable souls. Also, the entrance to Asgard lies here. What is the name of this world which Valkyrie scours for the entire length of the game?

Answer: Midgard

Midgard, which when translated means "middle earth", was connected to Asgard by a rainbow bridge called Bifrost. The game's portrayal of Midgard is fairly accurate to its Norse Mythological roots. As a centralized point in many games, middle earth is mentioned often and is sometimes alluded to based on these myths.

Some even say that the city you start "Final Fantasy VII" in, Midgar, is called this because it is taken from Norse Mythology's "Midgard". Well, that's it! Thanks for playing! Hope you enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoyed "Valkyrie Profile", an excellent real-time RPG from Enix and Tri-Ace!
