Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Megaman Legends 2", Megaman Volnutt travels across the world visiting the ruins on different islands looking for the keys that will supposedly unlock the Mother Lode. During his travels, he makes repeated stops by a massive airship known as the Sulphur Bottom. Which piece of classical music plays whilst on the ship?

Answer: "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi

At the beginning of the game, Roll's grandfather Prof. Barrel and his associate Werner Von Bluecher are planning on returning to Forbidden Island where the Mother Lode is said to lay. However, after an attack by a mysterious woman, the expedition is postponed and eventually Megaman discovers a woman sealed within a crystal on the island.

At her request, Megaman sets off in search of the Mother Lode keys with the Sulphur Bottom acting as a sort of hub.
2. Released in 2004, "Katamari Damacy" quickly took the world by storm with it's innovative gameplay and fantastic soundtrack. Though many songs in it are sung in Japanese, a few were sung in English. Which of the following tracks is one of those few?

Answer: "Que Sera Sera"

"Katamari Damacy" was about the young Prince of the Cosmos whose father accidentally destroys all the celestial bodies in the universe after a reckless night out. Pushing the responsibility onto the prince, the King of Cosmos forces him to Earth where he is to roll a katamari, a sticky ball-like object that grows bigger the more stuff that it gathers.

The aim of the game is to meet each level's Katamari size requirement and rebuild the universe one star at a time. The finally level features the prince rolling up entire towns in an attempt to remake the moon.
3. The "Kirby" franchise is pretty well-known for its music. When Nintendo released "Kirby's Epic Yarn", not only did the gameplay get a drastic makeover but so did the music. Easily one of the most unique soundtracks in the series, which of these tracks from the game is a piano piece?

Answer: "Flower Fields"

In "Kirby's Epic Yarn", an evil wizard named Yin-Yarn sucks Kirby into a world of patches and yarn. There he joins up with Prince Fluff and together, the two set off to restore order to Patch Land and save Dream Land from suffering a horrible fate. Being the first level of the game, Flower Fields acts as the tutorial stage and helps players learn the basics of the game.
4. It's unsurprising that the first level theme of a game is usually one of the most well remembered. For instance, we all know the 'Green Hill' theme from "Sonic the Hedgehog", right? Of course we do, it's a classic. So then, which of these 'Hill' levels resembles the original classic?

Answer: 'Sunset Hill' from "Sonic Advance 3"

'Green Hill', 'Neo Green Hill', and 'Mecha Green Hill' are all original compositions but 'Sunset Hill' is a remastering of the original 'Green Hill' tune. In terms of level design, Green Hill from "Sonic Blast" would be the closest match to the original as it was just a grassy plain. Neo Green Hill was more of a beachside forest and Mecha Green Hill was a mechanical forest.
5. Video game composers have been pumping out fantastic tunes ever since the days of the NES and one of the industry's most prevalent composers is Nobuo Uematsu. Being the composer for the "Final Fantasy" series and several other Square Enix titles, Uematsu has become the idol of many an up-and-coming musician. Which of these "Chrono Trigger" tracks did Uematsu compose?

Answer: "Sealed Door"

Yasunori Mitsuda suffered composer's block, a hard drive crash and stomach ulcers during the creation of the "Chrono Trigger" soundtrack. This caused Nobou Uematsu to hop in and finish composing it, creating about ten tracks including an arrangement of "Boss Battle 1" which had been composed by Noriko Matsueda.

Despite the trouble he had during the composition process, Mitsuda still views "Chrono Trigger" as a soundtrack that helped to mature his talents as a composer.
6. Just like my previous video game music quiz, I'm going to name four video game tracks. Can you identify which game these tracks are from? 'That's The Way The Boss is Killed', 'I Love Goldie Hawn', 'Tonight's a Jazzy Night', 'It's Good if it Ends Happily, Isn't It?'

Answer: "Dynamite Headdy"

"Dynamite Headdy" is about a puppet named Headdy as he journeys to stop the Dark Demon King from converting the simple townsfolk into evil minions. Throughout the game, he uses his head to attack enemies and grapple to ledges. Because of the resemblance it has to "Ristar", the two games are often compared with one another.
7. Boss themes are high-octane tracks that either pump the player up for a fight or fills them with the dread of impending death. While similar in nature, final boss themes are their own separate style of tune as they represent the climatic summary of the games events. Which of the following video game tracks is NOT a final boss theme?

Answer: 'Sad But True' from "Resident Evil 5"

'Sad But True' is the boss battle theme for the showdown with a brainwashed Jill Valentine. Players are tasked with ripping an odd device off of her chest, a process that involves one partner restraining Jill while the other takes potshots at the device. Killing Jill during this battle will cause the player to fail the mission, meaning aim is everything here.

This boss theme was remixed and used as Jill's character theme in "Marvel vs. Capcom 3".
8. This is a quiz about video game music, yes? Well then, let's talk about video game music. In "Earthbound", Ness and company regularly run into a band called the Runaway Five that offer them transportation and prayers of good health throughout the course of the game. How many of the band members were given names?

Answer: Two

Known as the Tonzura Brothers in the original Japanese version of "Earthbound" which was called "Mother 2", only the two lead singers are given names. The others are nameless instrumentalists. Strangely, even though the band is called Runaway Five, there is a sixth member present during performances. The Runaway Five was based on the real-life Blues Brothers.
9. In the first 'Video Game Music Mixture', I asked a question concerning the re-usage of "Castlevania" music. Now, I'm going to do it again but from the opposite approach. Which of these "Castlevania" tracks has NOT been used more than once?

Answer: 'Overture' from "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin"

'The Sinking Old Sanctuary' was reused in "Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness" and "Castlevania: Circle of the Moon". The final boss theme of "Haunted Castle" was later remade into the standard boss theme of "Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth". 'Blood Relations' was integrated into Richter Belmont's theme 'Divine Bloodlines' and the new medley was used in "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin" as 'Bloodlines Bequeathed' and "Castlevania: Harmony of Despair" as 'Divine Bloodlines'.

Only 'Overture' which was used just before the Dracula showdown in "Portrait of Ruin" has not been reused.
10. Praise for a good gaming soundtrack can be traced back to when music was first implemented into games probably around the time of the NES' debut. Surprisingly though, video game soundtrack awards aren't that plentiful though they do exist in very small quantities. For example, which soundtrack was named 'Best Sound 1993' by "Electronic Games Magazine"?

Answer: "Cool Spot"

Starring the once-mascot of 7-Up soft drinks, "Cool Spot" followed the titular character around a series of platforming stages in a quest to rescue his friends. While the gameplay itself wasn't viewed as anything particularly special, it's music help show just what 16-bit soundchips were capable of. Spot later got two sequels: a Othello-like NES title simply named "Spot" and an isometric platformer called "Spot Goes To Hollywood".
