Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I remember you! ...of course, it was you...and it was I who sent you... Now it is clear." It's common knowledge that when one person meets another for the first time, it is traditionally proper for them to introduce each other. However, which character introduces itself to the protagonist with this phrase?

Answer: The Asterite from "Ecco the Dolphin"

In "Ecco the Dolphin", the protagonist sets off across the seas to find out what caused a cyclone that sucked his pod into the sky. After multiple redirections, he eventually is pointed in the direction of a mysterious being known as the Asterite. Unbeknownst to the player at the time, Ecco and the Asterite first met during the age of the dinosaurs in which Ecco attacked it and took one of its globes.

He then travels to the present and gives the globe to the Asterite to replace the globe that he himself took millions of years prior.
2. "What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!" One of the most famous gaming quotes came from the prologue of "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" in which Richter Belmont speaks to Dracula just before they fight. However, when the game was released as part of "Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles", the script was rewritten. What was the new quote?

Answer: "Mankind? Ha! Nothing but a cesspit of hatred and lies!"

The PSP remaster of "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" included two new familiars, new weapons and armor, a reworked Maria Renard as a playable character and a completely rewritten script. This allowed for some of the game's hammier lines to remade into a more professional-sounding quotes.

For example, when Alucard and Maria first part ways, the original line is, 'Perhaps we'll meet again. That is, if you live that long.' In the remaster, it has become, 'If you're a better swordsman than a speaker, perhaps we'll meet again.'
3. "My inner child is coming out.... and it hurts!" Humor in gaming is sadly underused but when developers do implement comedy into games, it will at least draw a chuckle or two out of players even at its worst.. Which wise-cracking protagonist spoke this quirky one-liner?

Answer: Gex from "Gex"

"Gex" is about a one-liner producing gecko that gets sucked into his TV and is forced to journey through six genre-theme hub worlds in order to find his way out. The second hub world is New Toonland and is a brightly-colored and wacky world. There is a chance that Gex will utter this phrase while navigating both the hub and the actual levels themselves.
4. "If the world is to end, let it end. It history is to change, so be it and if it is my fate to die, I must simply laugh." Arguably the most well-known quote from "Chrono Trigger" is from one of the game's alternate endings in which Magus, still disguised as the prophet of Zeal, marches towards the Mammon Machine with murderous intentions aimed towards the parasitic Lavos. Players can obtain this ending by defeating Lavos when?

Answer: After defeating Azala but before Schala opens the locked door

The hardest ending to obtain in "Chrono Trigger" is after watching Schala open the locked door but before powering up Marle's pendant. This is a window of about a minute and a half so players ignorant to this ending's timing will pass it by without even realizing it.

The ending involves Marle and Lucca talking about the men of the game. It is also the only point in the game where Crono actually speaks.
5. "I can help you. I can heal your wounds. She doesn't have to die." The damsel in distress bit has been utilized since before the gaming industry existed though since it's creation, video games have also used it. In which game was the protagonist offered this assistance in rescuing a damsel?

Answer: "Splatterhouse"

In the 2010 remake of "Splatterhouse", the game opens with protagonist Rick Taylor bleeding out and a talking relic known as the Terror Mask offering him help in getting his kidnapped girlfriend Jennifer back from the demon-like Corrupted. Over the course of the game however, the mask's ulterior motives become clearer and clearer.

The line 'She doesn't have to die' was originally used in "Splatterhouse 2" in which Jennifer's death in the first game is revealed to be reversible.
6. "It's highly likely that this will be your final mission. Remember, we need heroes after the war too. Make it back in one piece." Heroes are born on the battlefield from the heroic deeds that they perform to the sacrifices they make. Unfortunately, even when a war ends, the battles don't necessarily stop. To which protagonist was this quote spoken to?

Answer: Mobius 1 from "Ace Combat 4"

"Ace Combat 4" follows a war between the Independent States Allied Forces (ISAF) and Eruseans forced who have taken control of an anti-asteroid cannon named Stonehedge and turned it into an anti-aircraft weapon. Though the war comes to a close, the game continues for a few levels afterwards as Erusean remnants construct an even more powerful cannon they dub Megalith.

This quote ends the final mission briefing.
7. "War. War never changes." War is a horrible thing that has changed very little since the dawn of man. Answer: "Fallout 3"

'War never changes' are first and last lines spoken in the standard campaign of "Fallout 3". On the other hand, "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots" opens with the line, "War has changed." While these two statements seem contradictory, both can be view as factual as 'War never changes' speaks of how the driving forces behind war have remained largely the same since the dawn of humanity while 'War has changed' notes how wartime technology has advanced greatly over the years.

Expectedly, Shadow later joins forces with Sonic to destroy his prototype, the Biolizard.
9. "I was out like the dying heartbeat of a little girl." With how much death has transpired in video games since the mid '80s, it's no wonder why some characters would choose to embrace and revel in death. Which gaming serial killer spoke this line?

Answer: Sweet Tooth from "Twisted Metal: Black"

"Twisted Metal: Black" completely reworked the character of Sweet Tooth changing him from a generic clown to a full-blown serial killer. He enters Calypso's tournament in an attempt to cure his curse which causes his head to perpetually remain on fire. This line is spoken when he passes out after defeating Minion.
10. "Zeus! Your son has returned and he has brought with him _________!" As the FunTrivia editors surely know by now, lazy authors make for horrible quizzes. However, a little laziness now and then doesn't hurt, right? Finish this famous "God of War II" quote for me.
