Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Far Cry Primal

"Far Cry Primal" was developed by Ubisoft Montreal in early 2016 and was originally made for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One along with Microsoft Windows. The game is set in 10,000 BC, shortly after the end of the last Ice Age. The goal is to ensure the survival and dominance of the Wenja tribe in a lush valley near the "cradle of civilization".

A player must defeat leaders of other clans, grow the primitive village, expand the whole territory with outposts, and, of course, defeat those wily predators such as a saber-tooth tiger.
2. Valheim

"Valheim" was created by Iron Gate Studio and was launched on February 2, 2021. It can be played on a PC or on a variety of consoles such as XBox and PlayStation. In the game, a player is a warrior who has died in battle during the Viking Age (roughly 793-1066 AD). The goal is to prove worth to Odin by slaying ancient evils and bringing order to the Norse world.

To win, a player must go to various areas of the fantasy land (e.g. the swamp or the forest) and defeat various foes. Each defeat garners the player a trophy. The player must also build an impressive Viking fortress during the rigors of chasing the enemies.
3. Ghost of Tsushima

"Ghost of Tsushima" was created by Sucker Punch Productions and released in 2020 for the PlayStation platform. It is an action-adventure game that puts the player in the role of Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior during the first Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274 AD. Jin had to make the difficult choice to forego the samurai code with which he was raised. Instead, he becomes "the Ghost", and begins using stealth, fear, and unconventional weapons to defeat enemies.

To win in the game, the player (as Jin) must finish the journey and free the three main regions of the island from the Mongols. As extra incentive, Jin can try to defeat the fearsome Mongol leader, Khotun Khan.
4. Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War

"Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War" was developed by Omega Force in 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. It's a tactics video game that puts the player in the role of a mercenary during the legendary conflict between England and France called The Hundred Years' War. The gameplay covers the 14th and 15th centuries-specifically the years between 1337 AD and 1453 AD.

The player can accept contracts from either the English or French sides, interacting with famous historical figures like Joan of Arc. Between battles, the player manages a tavern hub (for a nice break). To win, the player goes on missions and more and more difficult battles, all the while achieving "Fame" until one side wins in the famous war.
5. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

"Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood" was created by Ubisoft Montreal and released in November of 2010. It was first launched on PlayStation and XBox 360 but later releases would also run on PCs. The game primarily covers the years 1499 AD to 1507 AD, and follows an Italian nobleman named Ezio (who was in a previous version of the series). In this game he goes to Rome to rebuild the Assassin Brotherhood and stop the evil rule of the Borgia family.

As Ezio, the player not only fights people but also renovates shops, purchases famous landmarks like the Colosseum, and utilizes "new" weapons by Leonardo da Vinci. The main goal of the game is to finish nine campaigns, culminating in the final battle against Cesare Borgia.
6. Republic of Pirates

"Republic of Pirates" was created by Crazy Goat Games and released for the PC in 2024, with a console launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS in 2025. The game is set in the 18th century, specifically covering the Golden Age of Piracy, starting in 1706 AD. The player begins with a modest outpost and must develop a whole economy, constructing over 100 unique buildings in the pirate republic. The player must also work with other pirate clans and, of course, conduct a raid or two.

There are different modes of playing. In one, the player finishes "chapters" of the pirate story and in another it is all about expanding the pirate empire.
7. Red Dead Redemption 2

"Red Dead Redemption 2" was created by Rockstar Games in 2018 and was originally for PlayStation and XBox One. The main story takes place in 1899 AD, with an epilogue set in 1907 AD. It is set in a fictionalized version of the United States as the the player takes on the role of Arthur Morgan in the Wild West era. Morgan is an outlaw and part of a gang who is eluding the law.
As Morgan, the player will not only commit crimes such as robbing banks but will also relax around a campfire and enjoy the openness of the scenery.

Each action the player chooses to do, as Morgan, counts toward an "Honor" point system. The idea is to finish all chapters of story with "Honor" and to do various "side jobs" (like hunting for dinosaur bones).
8. Battlefield 1

"Battlefield 1" was created by DICE (EA Digital Illusions CE) in 2016 and originally released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The game covers the years of WWI (1914-1918 AD), with specific missions set during major events like the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915 and the Hundred Days Offensive in 1918. The player will don the persona of several different people, including a tank driver, a pilot, and a foot soldier.

In the single-player mode, the player must complete the objectives of each persona. In the multi-player mode, the player must work closely with a team to infiltrate the enemy and use the war tools provided such as the newly invented tank.
9. Call of Duty: WWII

"Call of Duty: WWII" was developed by Sledgehammer Games (with assistance from Raven Software) and was released on November 3, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Instead of the high-tech, futuristic warfare of previous games in the "Call of Duty" franchise, this game covers the final years of WWII, specifically 1944 to 1945, focusing on a squad in the 1st Infantry Division. It also removed skills like "wall running" to focus on traditional, tactical infantry combat.

A player wins by completing all eleven narrative missions, following Ronald "Red" Daniels from the D-Day invasion through the liberation of Paris and into Germany. Victory is achieved in multi-player mode by reaching the score limit or having the highest score when the timer ends.
10. Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness

"Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness" was created primarily by Ubisoft Shanghai and was released on June 5, 2018, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. It is an expansion game that trades the setting of Montana of the main game for the jungles of the Vietnam War. The game is set specifically in 1968, during the height of that conflict and follows Wendell "Red" Redler, a character from the base game, as he recounts his harrowing survival story of being shot down behind enemy lines.

To win the game, the player must navigate across a large open-world map to reach an extraction point where a rescue helicopter waits. Along the way, it is highly encouraged to save fellow soldiers (although it is not mandatory).
