Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the talking cat in Majula of "Dark Souls 2"?

Answer: Shalquoir

Shalquoir is an extremely unique NPC, and the fact that she's a talking cat to begin with is only part of it. She is the only NPC in the entirety of the "Dark Souls" trilogy who is completely invincible and cannot be killed. On top of that, she is the only character capable of allowing the player to leave a covenant, and she also tracks their progress with each covenant in the game as well. Finally, she knows quite a lot about very obscure details of the game's lore, and will share them with the player if prompted.
2. In "Super Smash Bros." entries "Brawl" up to "Ultimate", when choosing to play as Mario, he has a very particular slogan he says when emerging from a green pipe at the very start of a fight. What does he say, exactly?

Answer: "Let's-a go!"

In each of these three entries, Mario will energetically pop up from a green pipe, before striking a fighting pose. In "Super Smash Bros. Melee", characters do not have these entrances into battle, so Mario just appears to fight like everyone else.
3. The "Donkey Kong" franchise had one educational video game produced long, long ago. Which subject did it attempt to teach?

Answer: Math

"Donkey Kong Jr. Math" was released in 1983. It's based on the original "Donkey Kong Jr" in animation and in what can be somewhat considered "gameplay mechanics". This game, as you'd expect, is extremely basic: Donkey Kong beats his chest, presents a series of vines with random numbers, and the player must grab various math symbols and create correct math statements out of them.

For example, Donkey Kong might spawn a 3, a 6 and a 9, in which case the player would grab a plus sign and place it in between the 3 and 6.
4. Ganondorf has been a long time menace in the "Legend of Zelda" franchise. He has appeared as an adversary in many different ways, and has had some bizarre conditions for defeating him. In what game can the player defeat Ganondorf by simply throwing a book at him?

Answer: Link: The Faces of Evil

This is a game which came out in 1993. It was towards the end of quite an odd era in Nintendo gaming in which tacky CGI graphics made up a lot of the art direction in their games. This was one such game, and in the 21st century especially, looking back at this one is quite amusing to put it mildly. It is also known for having very frustrating controls, mapping most weapon functions all to the one same, singular button and then mapping jumping to this button as well.

In this game, you do indeed defeat Ganondorf by quite simply throwing a book at him. "Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon" functions as somewhat of a soft sequel to this game. And in this game, you defeat Ganondorf by throwing the Wand of Gamelon at him.

In both games, a hilariously dated cutscene plays when Ganondorf is defeated.
5. Who frequently mutters all manner of curse words about the "thievin' scum" going around his town?

Answer: Sheriff of Nottingham ("Hood: Outlaws and Legends")

As soon as one side or the other takes the key off of his person, the Sheriff will wander the map being played on with more purpose. Those hiding close to him will hear him frequently comment on "them thievin' scum", either him commanding nobody in particular to "get them! Thievin' scum" or saying he will "kill them" if he grabs them.
6. "Super Smash Bros. Brawl's" famous Subspace Emissary campaign is an almost entirely silent narrative. Almost none of the characters, of which there are many, have any voice lines. Who is the one exception?

Answer: Snake

In Snake's introductory cutscene, he is found hiding inside of a cardboard box aboard the Halberd. The camera zooms in a little, then he emerges from the box. A theme begins to play as Snake has a close up shot in which he very briefly says "Kept you waiting, didn't I?"

This is the only voice line in the entire campaign. Not even the main man himself, Mario, has anything to say.
7. In "Persona 5", the final boss of the base game is Yaldabaoth, God of Control. He is a massive, imposing, powerful figure with a booming voice who has bent the world to his whim. If the player comes at him with the absolute most powerful setup they can find, how many turns will it require to kill Yaldabaoth at minimum?

Answer: Two

It is very difficult to achieve killing Yaldabaoth in two turns. However, it technically should be possible to do it in just one. It is mathematically possible to do enough damage to wipe out his entire health bar in one full turn. However, the game will not allow his health to fall beneath one hit point on the first turn for narrative reasons.

It is only possible to finish the encounter on the conclusion of the second turn.
8. There are numerous endings in "Elden Ring". Canonically, which of the following ends up getting the most amount of people killed?

Answer: Age of Frenzied Flame

The other three endings do not actually get anyone canonically killed, apart from those the player had to kill just to reach the endings in the first place.

In the Age of Frenzied Flame, however, the player invokes the Frenzied Flame on the Lands Between. This has the apocalyptic outcome of completely wiping out all living organisms, everywhere. As well, the Frenzied Flame burns its victims right down to their soul, so resurrection becomes impossible as well. Basically, in taking this ending, you have chosen to commit extreme genocide on basically the entire world. Hope it was worth the PlayStation trophy!
9. At the end of each level in "Sonic Heroes", the player is given a grade for their performance. What is the lowest and highest grade, respectively, the player can earn?

Answer: E and A

The lowest would be E-, with the highest being A+. Attaining an A+ is rightfully very difficult, as it requires the player to collect all rings, destroy all enemies and clear the level in very fast time.
10. On the Tallon Overworld of "Metroid Prime", the player can expect to deal with frequent muggy weather. Which weather type of the following appears in this area?

Answer: Rainy

It is always either raining, or pouring rain with thunder crackling in the background. The effect is entirely cosmetic and doesn't hinder anything other than maybe the player's vision in a very minor way.
