Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Caspian fell from his horse, he was found by two dwarves and the badger; Trufflehunter. What name was the badger given in the French version?

Answer: Chasseur-de-Truffles

This is a French translation of Trufflehunter, literally meaning hunter of truffles.
2. What was the French name of the red-haired dwarf that found Caspian?

Answer: Trompillon

Nikabrik was the black-haired dwarf, his name was not changed.
3. When the four children meet up with the red-haired dwarf, Edmund refers to him as dear little friend or DLF. In the French book what did this become?

Answer: Cher Petit Ami (CPA)

Like with Trufflehunter, it is a direct translation to allow the joke to be understood. Whilst Trumpkin (Trompillon) is insulted by cher petit ami he does not seem to offended by CPA as he laughs when Edmund suggests it.
4. What is the English equivalent of the name Saute-Brindilles?

Answer: Pattertwig

Interestingly saute means leap and not patter. But since Pattertwig is a squirrel this does actually make sense.
5. Does Reepicheep's name change in the French book?

Answer: Yes

The mouse's name becomes Ripitchip.
6. Who are 'Les ours Ventripotent'?

Answer: The Bulgy Bears

The literal translation would be the potbellied bears, which is the same as bulgy anyway.
7. What is the French version of the name Glenstorm?

Answer: Ouragan

Ouragan actually means a hurricane. There doesn't seem to be any reference to the glen in his name though.
8. The name Cornelieus changes in the French version of the book.

Answer: False

Even though he is referred to as Docteur rather than Doctor, his actual name does not change.
9. What are the French names of the two Lords that conspire to get Miraz to accept the challenge?

Answer: Sopespian et Glozelle

This is the same as the English version of their names.
10. Glasswater creek has been renamed "La crique des Eaux de Cristal".

Answer: Yes

As they are travelling to 'la crique' Susan remembers travelling in their ship, known in the French book as 'La Splendeur Hyaline'.
