Two songs tear me up...The Star Spangled Banner and The Ohio State University's Carmen Ohio. Love those for my country and my state :-)

Pretty much anything by Elliott Smith is a tearjerker. Also "Letter to Elise" by The Cure, "Imagine" by John Lennon, and "Sunship Balloons" by the Flaming Lips.

I'm not a fan of Eric Clapton, but "Tears In Heaven" still makes me a bit emotional.Especially when he wrote it for his little boy who is in Heaven.

As a little girl my mum used to play Dolly Partons "Jeannies afraid of the Dark".It still makes me sad.

CMT you're a funny girl. When I just saw this topic come up again the first song I thought about was "Concrete Angel" That song breaks my heart.

I'm with you witchypoo, whenever I hear the "Star Spangled Banner" I get teary eyed. Especially these days, thinking of so many of our fellow countrymen and women overseas.

George Strait, "I Cross My Heart". Most people think of this as a love song, but if you listen to the lyrics, it brings back all the feelings I had when I had my first child. "I cross my heart and promise to give all I've got to give to make all your dreams come true. In all the world, you'll never find, a love as true as mine". I cry like a baby.

The one that touches me a lot is "The Blower´s Daughter" of Damien Rice and also "We´ve only just began" of The Carpenters.

Discovering the Waterfront by Silverstein makes me cry because its lyrics are so deep and really touch me because of something that happened with me and my girlfriend.

When Dawn on Making the Band 4 sang about God and how He helped her with her struggles I started to think about everything that has been going on in my life and started to cry buckets and pray. I don't think that someone should be going through a suicide attempt in the family, two best freinds moving away, and someone in the family doing drugs and then I find out six months later all at the same time. I'm actually crying right now.

Got another one I almost forgot - heard it today.....
Mike and the Mechanics - "In the Living Year". The line "I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away"....... brings me to tears because that's exactly what happened years ago.

That's what decent songs are supposed to do - they trigger reality and have a sort of cathartic effect on us. Sensitive songs make us feel that there is someone else out there who feels as we do. There is a healing in crying. Never apologize for your feelings. Feelings are what makes us huMAN.
