'I Cried For You' by Katie Melua is heart-rending, about a dead friend. The more so because Katie Melua sings so well. Reply #85. Oct 24 07, 2:29 AM |

When we try to define emotions, we never really succeed with words. Words are just not capable of conveying what it is we really feel, only give approximations of feeling. We say what we say and we hope that the people who are listening to us somehow grasp just how joyous, or marvelous, or wonderful whatever an occasion it was we are trying to convey. Words like love, joy, happiness, melancholy..all words used to describe emotion, but so, so woefully inadequate. It would seem that we have no way of actually expressing our feelings, and that we must resign ourselves to the pale cast of our words and just make due. But the universe has given us a way to convey the very definition of what it is we feel, wholly and fully. Creation has embued us with the gift of music, and it is through this language that we speak of things that our pitiful words can not. I said all of this simply to preface my answer the the OP. There is a piece composed by the late Samuel Barber entitled Adagio For Strings." I first heard it back in the 80's when I saw Oliver Stone's Vietnam War film, Platoon." You want to know the definiton of pain and the sadness pain can engender? Listen to this, and tell me if the strings do not define these things for you..and, even if they don't, suffice it to say, they do for me. There is also a voice version of it entitled, "Agnus Dei, with the exact same arrangement, but only now with seraphic chorale. If angels in heaven do sing, they must sound like this. Please listen to it if you will. Reply #95. Dec 03 07, 6:29 AM |

Oh yes, I can honestly say I have not cryed in about 4 years.... Songs somehow get to me though, although I have never all-out cryed from one before.....But I have wanted to..The sadest songs I have heard would be... An oldies song, about two teenagers who fell in love and wanted to get married. Well to make a long story short, they were suposed to meet at a bridge, but her parents would not let her go see him then or anytime from now on....He took it kinda hard and killed himself....Then there are a few ongs that just kill me for some reason, but I dont feel like writeing anymore, so this is enough...
