The Original Skid Row lineup is late 80s to early 90s. I swear, I am not intentionally being vague! Let me give you a complete rundown:

"Skid Row formed in 1986 with bassist Rachel Bolan, guitarist Dave “The Snake” Sabo, rhythm guitarist Scotti Hill, drummer Rob Affuso and lead singer Sebastian Bach. The band had an in-route to the music industry thanks to the fact that Sabo and Jon Bon Jovi were long-time friends, and when Bon Jovi hit it big, he paid off the friendship by getting Skid Row signed as well.

Their second album, "Slave to the Grind," hit in 1991 and opened at No. 1 on the U.S. charts. It was harder than their debut and elevated Skid Row into the elite of the metal bands of the day. They released their third album in 1995, but by this time grunge had hurt the sales of metal bands and it never achieved the success as their previous albums. Finally, at the end of 1995, Skid Row fired Sebastian Bach and went on a hiatus.

Skid Row reformed in 1999, added Johnny Solinger, and started touring with other metal bands from their era. They released a new album in 2006 and have toured almost non-stop since then in festivals and on arena tours. However, the band has never reached the success they had with Sebastian Bach as the front man. With a reunion likely to never happen, the best fans can hope for is seeing the new Skid Row in concert and remembering the days gone by."

Firing Sebastian Bach was a travesty. To say they have never reached the success they once had is an understatement. They are now on their third front man. Skid Row without Sebastian Bach is redundant, in my opinion.

Bach, however, has gone on to play the role of Jesus Christ in "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Jekyll and Hyde" as both the good doctor and his alter-ego, both on Broadway.

He has also appeared on TV, playing a character much like himself on "Gilmore Girls" and he also has his own band, and is still performing.

They fired Bach because he had made an agreement to open for the band Kiss and his other bandmates went out of their minds and said they were "too big to open for Kiss," while Bach assured them "We are never too big to open for Kiss." So, they fired him.

Four years later, Skid Row was one of the opening acts for the 2000 Kiss Farewell Tour. So much for "too big."

With Sebastian Bach, the band put out exactly three albums: "Skid Row," "Slave To The Grind," and "Subhuman Race."

Sebastian Bach's father, David Bierk, a renowned artist, painted the cover art, which is actually a long mural, continued inside the album's booklet. Although it is set in the medieval era, it depicts people using modern technological gadgets. The cover was inspired by Caravaggio's " Burial of St. Lucy" from 1608 and shows John F. Kennedy in the crowd.

Bach owns this mural and it hangs on a wall in his home. Although, his house and most of the contents were either destroyed or later condemned by Hurricane Irene in 2011. However, all his father's artwork, including the 16-foot “Slave To The Grind” mural, survived the storm due to the quick thinking of his sons and friends moving all that artwork to the second story of his home.

P.S.

Guns N Roses formed in Los Angeles in 1985 and were signed by Geffen Records in 1986.

Same timeline as Skid Row!

"Appetite For Destruction" reached #1 on the Billboard 200 one year after its release in 1987, on the strength of "Sweet Child O' Mine," the band's only single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Okay, definitely not a hair band then. Yes, clicked on your link, but give me a couple more listens. I can only hear it through crappy ear phones on my mobile. I need to listen to it properly with headphones on a decent sound system. Thanks for info, like I said, I could have looked it up but it's a discussion thread and people who know things should be given the chance to display their knowledge. Did you get my UFO message? The band, not a message sent from a UFO!

I totally know what you mean, sectant. There's a big difference quality-wise when it comes to listening to music with different headphones/streaming/etc.

Bon Jovi:
Deserving of being in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
VS
NOT deserving?

Jen, glad you brought up Bon Jovi because they seem to be a much maligned band and I've never understood why. They've recorded some very enjoyable songs and there are tons of bands with less talent. As to Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, every band in the world will eventually be in there unless they decide to stop including new ones every year. Okay, I'm exaggerating there but I hope you see my point. It should be for great bands and influential bands, not just good bands. Are Bon Jovi already in there? I like them but I don't think they're Hall-Of-Fame-worthy.

Okay, looks like it's just me again.

So tell me Sectant, which of these two bands do you prefer?....
Wishbone Ash or Angel?

An interesting comparison Sectant because they're so different in their approach. Angel are a bit too reliant on synths and programmed strings, Wishbone Ash are twin guitar attack Rock, with a slight R&B feel. Chalk and cheese really. Angel seems passe and too 70's, Wishbone Ash haven't really dated. So it's Wishbone Ash for me!

Well answered Sectant, my sentiments exactly.
Sectant.

I have to agree, sometimes the bands getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame seem… I don’t know… not ready? Unworthy, some may say. Yup, Bon Jovi was inducted this year into the R&RHOF. Sectant, yes, they are a band that has certainly been downgraded by some.
To me, Bon Jovi belongs more than some that were already there… just my opinion, but Madonna and Beastie Boys are head-scratchers to me.
This year they introduced a new category, inducting single songs as opposed to a whole band. I thought that was a good idea.
Alright, so I ask, what are some bands you think SHOULD be in the R&RHOF and aren’t?

My bands include Bad Company, Doobie Brothers, Oasis, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and Blue Oyster Cult (sorry, I can’t do those dot things above that name!).

I've actually been to two Bon Jovi live concerts, one at the Milton Keynes Bowl and then again at Wembley stadium, that one was the last concert ever played at that iconic venue before they tore it down and rebuilt it in a different location.
Those guys can really perform live, which all singers and bands should be able to do. Anyone can sound great with a studio full of producers twiddling knobs and adjusting mistakes on their behalf, but hardly anyone can sound great out on a big stage in the open air and keep it up for a couple of hours.
I like some of Madonna's songs but she is dreadful live. Bon Jovi have earned their popularity.
But for me, best live band ever are Disturbed. Front man David Draiman not only has The Voice, but he's a real showman.
And Elle, I thought Sebastian Bach was brilliant as Gil in Gilmore Girls, playing a parody of himself, joining a teenage rock band playing little gigs to twenty people. Genius.

Hey Jo!
I order you to get back on Fake Album Titles thread immediately! Remember, I have a hamster minion who may very well decide to visit your part of the world!!

Hey Jen!
Great idea about individual songs in Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. You mentioned Blue Oyster Cult, "Don't Fear The Reaper" is a worthy song for inclusion.

Hey Sectant!
You really are a prat, you know that?
And stop talking to yourself!

Not as bad as answering my own questions!
Sectant.

I really like a handful of Madonna songs but don't really like many others... go figure.
Chester Bennington (may he rest in peace... I sob) of Linkin Park was incredible live. I know of Disturbed, and I say, good for them for being so good live! Isn't it crazy how good/bad some bands are live?
Darren Hayes of Savage Garden is incredible live, sounds so good.

Sectant, "Don't Fear the Reaper" is a masterpiece!
I'm sorry you feel you're talking to yourself. I felt bad because I hadn't heard of the bands you mentioned for VS. I was on vacation all of last week :)

Jen, it was Sectant humour. I wasn't referring to the two bands, I was just indulging in my usual silliness. It's a Brit inclined humour, more so than American or Aussie. Or Flemish or Guadalajaran. See? Did it again!

Shangri Las v Supremes
(If anyone votes for Supremes, there shall be much gnashing of teeth and a loud groan or two!)

Jo, when you saw Bon Jovi at Wembley, did you see Skid Row, too? They toured together. Skid Row got banned there for LIFE, I think!

P.S. My favorite Skid Row videos are all live from Wembley, from the same concert. Why they didn't turn that into a Concert DVD, or do it now, after the fact, is beyond me. Every single song is great -- they sound as good live as they do in the studio, and Bach is such a riot on stage. I don't know how he sustains some of those notes, though. I never seen him take a deep breath. He must have an enormous diaphragm.

I have two episodes of Gilmore Girls recorded, just so I can watch him on a big, big screen, but now that I've also figured out how to watch YouTube Videos on my TVs, I could probably let Gil go.

Skid Row - I wish! This was August 2000, Jovi were supported by Toploader, and another band I don't remember.
It was a long, long day; we travelled by coach to London, which in itself is horrendous, then sat on the pitch at Wembley for hours waiting for the warm up acts.
It was all worth it. Bon Jovi played for three hours, and included one of my all time favourite tracks, Bed Of Roses. They were truly spectacular.
What a way for Wembley stadium to go :-)

Okay, but forgive me if I don't feel inspired. I know I will again soon. I just got the wind knocked out of me for awhile.
