Hey Elle Totally agree, not everyone can dance to Maniac but I think it's a better song, just to listen to. Gee, haven't seen 9 and a Half Weeks for ages. Only saw it once, only remember a few things, definitely remember that bit with the lovely K. B. Hey Jen, see what you've started? It's getting raunchy now! Reply #41. May 19 18, 2:31 AM |

Jen, will you ever forgive me? I promise I won't post the video of the "I carried a watermelon..." scene. Reply #42. May 20 18, 3:49 PM |

Hahaha you two!!! Some people can dance to Maniac just fine... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq6VT4m9MA4 Blackdresss, I admit I've always liked the song Hungry Eyes. I've never seen Dirty Dancing, surprisingly enough. I'm not much into dramas/dance movies (sorry!). But I liked the clip you shared... I have always liked Patrick Swayze too so that certainly didn’t hurt! sectant, you crack me up with your dislike of Dirty Dancing; it’s good to have passion! When it comes to Hungry Heart VS Maniac… I confess I really dislike Bruce Springsteen. Hungry Heart for me is his only tolerable song. My vote goes to Maniac. Reply #43. May 21 18, 11:36 AM |

Springsteen's early stuff is great. Time for a new duel ladies. I'll let you pick. P.S. What do you think of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire? They elevated dancing to incredible heights. Reply #44. May 21 18, 6:03 PM |

I'm not crazy about old films, so Fred and Ginger aren't big favorites of mine. They're entertaining, mind you, but just not my kind of films. I love Springsteen! My favorite album is "Nebraska." It's just him, with his guitar and harmonica, and I think he recorded it in his living room. Something (maybe legal) was going on with his band at the time. You might really like that album, Jen. "Tunnel Of Love" is my second favorite. Hmmmmm... let me think of two more songs. I'd do Springsteen vs. Bob Seger, but if you don't like Bruce, you won't like any song I pick, probably. I love Seger, too. How about Tom Petty's "Breakdown" vs. Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold"? Or, if that is too big a difference (I can kind of hear them compared, though, in my head,) how about Tom Petty's "Breakdown" vs. Bob Seger's "Turn The Page"? Reply #45. May 22 18, 2:16 AM |

I've only ever heard one Ted Nugent song, it was on a various artists heavy metal album called Killerwatts. Some of the artists weren't even heavy metal. I mean, I like REO Speedwagon but they were on that album and I wouldn't classify them as heavy metal. There was a French band on that album called Trust and their song was sung in French. Had no idea what they were saying but it was definitely metal. My favourite song on Killerwatts was Knock 'Em Dead Kid by Trooper. Alas, the album was sold years ago, to my eternal regret. I think it's out of print now. I Love Tom Petty. And I heard a fantastic live version of Turn The Page. Probably just pips Breakdown. One of our own here, a singer called Jon English, had a hit with Turn The Page years ago. I heard that version before Seeger's. Reply #46. May 22 18, 3:05 AM |

This one I think you'll like. Bog Seger "Turn The Page" 1973: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GONmFCkCGCc Ted Nugent "Stranglehold" Live 1976 (It's long and you might not like it. You won't hurt my feelings, but this is classic. This guy is a maniac) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kBIhOn_9CM Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers "Breakdown" 1978 Live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1cm0QJ9MSo Bruce Springsteen "Nebraska" Live 2016 (The entire album is very mellow) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMQ2i5m1DkI REO Speedwagon "157 Riverside Avenue" 1971, back when they used to rock, before they turned into whatever they turned into in the 80's, kind of what happened to Jefferson Airplane when they turned into Starship. (I can't stand REO from the 80s, or Starship. Ick.) There are live videos of this, but the quality isn't good. This is on my Perfect Albums List. This starts out sounding a lot like "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UGPp3yPe1s But now you have a good idea of "Stranglehold" to compare to "Breakdown." Maybe no comparison, now that I think about it. I am still mourning Tom Petty. Maybe we should choose between old REO and 80s REO, and old Airplane and 80s Starship. Pick a song, any song. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around! (I am so tired!) Reply #48. May 22 18, 4:00 AM |

Trooper "Knock 'Em Dead Kid" 1977 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTKCS_En8wE That song? I've never heard of them, but I really like this song. They remind me so much of someone, but I'm so tired, I can't think. If this is the song you were looking for, I am so happy to learn about them and this! And... you can dance to it! Reply #49. REO wasn't even heard of in Australia until Hi Infidelity album. I think I was probably the only person who knew their earlier stuff and even then it was just their previous album Nine Lives. And after Hi Infidelity was a smash I bought You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish which was very ordinary. I'll have to check out their complete catalogue pre late 70's, early 80's. You wanna know who else was on Killerwatts? Molly Hatchett. Boogie No More. Southern Rock but a wee bit bland to fit into that category. At least that song is. And certainly not metal. Knock 'Em Dead Kid will stay in your head for a while. Very memorable riffs. Goodnight Elle, get some sleep, ya hear?!! Reply #50. May 22 18, 4:33 AM |

I really respect and like Tom Petty, so for “Breakdown” VS Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold”, I’ll go with “Breakdown”. I too am still shocked by his death. However, “Breakdown” VS “Turn the Page”, I vote Bob Seger. Bob Seger was born within hours of where I was born, and he’s my dad’s favorite artist of all time. “Turn the Page” happens to be my favorite song of his, so I gotta go with that one! Reply #51. I agree, sectant, I almost giggled in embarrassment (sorry) when REO Speedwagon was mentioned on a heavy metal album. Those two phrases, "REO Speedwagon" and "heavy metal" so not belong in the same sentence. Reply #52. May 22 18, 10:24 AM |

"Witchy Woman" all the way. "Well, I know you want a lover Let me tell you, brother She's been sleeping in the Devil's bed And there's some rumors going round Someone's underground She can rock you in the nighttime 'Til your skin turns red" Not only are we asked to see how high she flies, we are assured "she got the moon in her eyes." What is not to love? And... you can dance to it. Reply #57. May 24 18, 2:40 AM |
