Whoops, left out a couple of words from the first Police song.

Good advice, sectant. Weinstein and Cosby are arguably the two biggest piles of waste the world has to offer right now...

You really made me laugh... yes, I too have heard "Every Breath You Take" at weddings and it's really not a good song choice! There's a list out there of songs that don't mean what people think they mean. It's interesting.

Me too, I choose "Every Little Thing She Does..." (my, that IS a long title) by The Police.

I found it very hard to listen to my own advice in Cosby's case. He was so funny in his comic routines but I had to remove all the stuff I had of his on my CD downloads. They were mixed in with other artist's songs and it worked brilliantly, songs plus comic relief. I kept hoping he'd be found not guilty but once the guilty verdict came through, I deleted every one of the Cosby tracks. Could not enjoy them any more.

Here's an interesting duel, despite Christmas being six months away....
We Are The World by U.S.A For Africa versus Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid. The original version. Musically, I'll go for the Band Aid song. Both are winners with regard to the idea of raising money for famine relief.

I was a fan of Cosby’s growing up… he was funny and seemed like a good guy. I wanted him to be innocent, but as the list of accusers grew, I couldn’t deny it. He has to pay for what he did.
You think you have an idea of what someone is like and… boom… they’re monsters.

Cute VS question! I like that too, both songs did good, each artist got to help their fellow man. I like how so many famous artists lent their vocals for charity. I am going with Band Aid as well! The song kind of makes me giggle for some reason.

The Doors:
Touch Me
VS
Break on Through

Break On Through maybe. Touch Me gets a lot of radio play, Break On Through never gets radio play. Neither would be on my fave Doors list of songs. L.A. Woman is the only album I listen to now.

I'll agree with that, Touch Me seems to get more airplay. It tickles me that you kind of downgrade a song because of popularity. It tickles me because I am the same way!
(Which is ironic because I do like Touch Me more than Break On Through!)

Not so much the popularity, more a case of some songs improve with repeated airplay, others get a bit tiresome. It's just the way I see it, it's not necessarily what others think. In fact, I'm probably in the minority.

Two songs I don't like as much anymore, due to constant radio play are Hotel California and Bohemian Rhapsody. (I love the live, acoustic version of Hotel California though). And yet even with constant radio play I still love Stairway To Heaven and More Than A Feeling. A totally subjective viewpoint.

Hope you like David Bowie...Fame vs Modern Love. I'll go for Fame, just shades Modern Love.

Faaaaame! for me! A good one! Heroes is probably my favorite of his. Have you ever seen the movie Labyrinth?

For me, it's not like I don't like songs when they get popular... it's mostly just me trying to prevent getting sick of anything, so I'll move on to another radio station. Imagine Dragons is a great band but they're getting so overplayed and I don't WANT to get sick of them, you know?

Now I'll pit two (possibly) overplayed Fleetwood Mac songs (I adore this band and I'll probably pick two other songs somewhere down the line):
Don't Stop
VS
Go Your Own Way

... I can't make up my mind right now!

I mentioned right at the start of this thread that I don't like Don't Stop, not one of Christine's best songs. Go Your Own Way is another of the too much radio play songs I find less interesting with each play. Funny how you picked the only two songs on Rumours I'd pass over if I still had the album. The reason I dont like Don't Stop is I think musically it's a bit repetitively clunky or clunkily repetitive. Songbird is gorgeous though.

Saw Labyrinth years ago. Was Jennifer Connelly in that?

Haha, I did that on purpose. (I hadn't remembered you didn't like Don't Stop but I knew it was an overplayed one) Kind of like a "well, if I had to pick..." thing. Because there are so many of their songs I love (that's why I mentioned I'll likely use a different set later on)! I guess if I had to pick it'd be "Go Your Own Way".

That's right! Jennifer Connelly was David Bowie's co-star. I own the soundtrack and like many of its songs.

How about Billy Idol:
White Wedding
VS
Rebel Yell?

Rebel Yell!!!!!!!
"Last night a little angel came dancing to my door."

Good one Jen, both songs are great, Rebel for me though.

Same here, I enjoy both for sure, but I choose Rebel Yell.

Two different versions of Ruby Tuesday:
Rolling Stones versus Melanie.
I'm choosing Melanie's version, I just love the way she sings.

I'm sorry, my vote must go to the Rolling Stones.
I hadn't heard that other version. Thanks for sharing! I like The Corrs version too... then again, I tend to love anything from them!

Here's a random one:
Stray Cats songs.
Stray Cat Strut
VS
Rock This Town

Stray Cat Strut. I bought the single. Got rid of all my singles. Dumb decision, now that vinyl is making a comeback. Dumb decision, period!

Runaway v Someday. A Corrs duel.

Aw, doesn’t that figure?!? I too choose Stray Cat Strut, it’s a cute song.

Oh, no! My heart! How to choose… I love my Corrs… for me, I have to go with Someday. That music in the middle (climax) is so great.

Can't choose between the two. Runaway is gorgeous and I agree, the middle bit of Someday is terrific. I always look forward to that bit.

(I must stop relying on memory when I occasionally quote a song lyric. I got Rebel Yell wrong. And it's the opening line too!)

Your turn to pick Jen.

Oh, believe me, I know!
Another problem with me is that I'll be singing in the car or something and my sister will ask, "What did you just say?"
(what comes next is my sister rewinds the CD and makes me sing it again... then she laughs at my version... and corrects me, haha)

Simon and Garfunkel!
The Boxer
VS
Bridge Over Troubled Water

The Boxer.
(10,000 points for correctly counting the number of lai lai lai's in this song)
