Very cool posts Elle! You have a talent for it!

Going back a few posts, discussing the death of Chopin, do you realize you might be dead now, if not for modern medicine? I know I would, and probably both my children, too. and because of reasons easily solved today.

Just sayin'...

Thanks, Stephanie. I still have a few albums I want to write stories about, but they kind of have to come flying out of me, or it doesn't work.

Haha, Mark! That is kind of an awful visual, now that I think about it. And you just made me laugh! Out loud! For real! So now I've cried, and I've laughed, in the last 24 hours. Maybe the worst of this is over? Wow, what would that be like? I still can't see out of my right eye, though, so maybe I'm just delirious?

I'll have to write a story from songs about it!

There was a College Basketball coach by the name of Jim Valvano, who died after a long struggle with cancer. He said in an acceptance speech that, you should do three things every day, and if you do, you can look back, and say to yourself, I had a full life. The three things are: laugh at yourself or with someone, do some thinking, some real honest to goodness deep thought, and let yourself be brought to tears. If you do those three things, that will be a life well lived.

He died at the age of 47.

I usually do all three things, Mark, all I can say is that I am still alive

Yow... I do those three things every day, too. He died at 47??? That's pure irony. How did he die? Maybe that holds the secret. If he got hit by a bus, maybe he was deep in thought, or laughing so hard he forgot to glance up? Or crying? Same thing could happen, although I can order lunch or dinner with a friend, while crying, and not miss a beat. It tends to freak out anyone taking my order, but it's just a release of emotion to me, and perfectly natural.

Remember what Joni said: "Laughing and crying, you know it's the same release." And she is a Woman of Heart And Mind, The Blonde In The Bleachers, who Wishes She Had A River, She Could Skate Away On, while sitting on the porch eating muffins, buns and berries. "Sometimes we do, our tongues turn blue."

"I Wish I Had A River" might be my favorite Christmas song.

"It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace

Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly"

Oh. He died of cancer. I missed that part. That's sad, but I do agree with the three things he did, every day, in order to have a life well-lived.

I would add that you do something for someone else, too, to get yourself out of your own head. But if you're laughing, and being brought to tears, you may be already doing something for someone else. When I'm laughing and crying, and while it's the same release, I rarely am doing it alone. Or, if I'm alone in body, I'm not alone in spirit. You guys make me laugh until I cry, and you make me cry on your behalf sometimes, and you definitely make me think, hard, about all kinds of things.

But when I'm trapped in my head, my world is as big as a grapefruit, and that is never so good.

I may have to write a "Song From Song Titles" using a Joni album. Her songs are great, and so are the titles. Even "Blue" and "Little Green."

"Born with the moon in Cancer
Choose her a name she'll answer to
Call her Green and the Winters cannot fade her
Call her Green for the children who have made her
Little Green
Be a gypsy dancer

He went to California
Hearing that everything's warmer there
So you write him a letter, say, "Her eyes are blue"
He sends you a poem and she's lost to you
Little Green, he's a non-comformer

Just a little Green
Like the color when the Spring is born
There'll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow

Just a little Green
Like the nights when the Northern Lights perform
There'll be icicles and birthday clothes
And sometimes there'll be sorrow"

"Blue
Songs are like tattoos
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away

Hey Blue
And there is a song for you

Blue
Here is a shell for you
Inside you'll hear a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me"

Joni makes me laugh, cry, and think.

That reminds me of a saying that we had, when I was in the car business.
"Don't get wrapped around the axle."
In other words, don't get bogged down by the little things.

"The Last Time I Saw Richard," "My Old Man," was in "California." "All I Want" is "A Case Of You," I told him, but he was distracted by "Carey" who happened to be on "This Flight Tonight." Now it's just me, sitting by this "Little Green" "River," and feeling "Blue."

Joni Mitchell -- "Blue"

You need to get out of your blue phase, get some purple in your life.
Please don't take that as being preachy, just hopeful.

I'm in a blue phase? It might be the weather.

A purple phase. Hmmmmm... I'll have to go with Jimi or Prince.

I'll work on it.

S'cuse me while I kiss the sky

S'cuse me while I kiss this guy. Ahyuk! That's on a quiz around here somewhere. You guys have seen it, right?

I can definitely agree with that one guy about the laughing thing and the deep thought thing. I'm not saying the crying part every day is right or wrong, I mean, if it is right for somebody personally, then so be it. I know I have many more days where I laugh but don't cry at all, and it isn't as if I have some kind of void in my life. It isn't as if I am beyond crying either, I have done my share of it throughout my life. There are certain everyday songs or certain commercials on TV that will make my eyes well up with tears and sometimes roll right down my face, so it's definitely not like I'm terribly insensitive or something. I surely do enjoy the laughing thing much better, I'll say that.

Purple is the color of Royalty.
Purple is the color of Passion.
Passion about life.
Passion about being in a better place tomorrow than you're in today.
Passion about attacking a project head on.
Passion for that difficult thing that you've been putting off forever.
Passion about being a better person.
Purple is the color of Passion.

Yes indeed, I know what Purple is.

But other than "Purple Haze" and "Purple Rain," there aren't a lot of Purple songs. "Flying Purple People-Eater" isn't working for me.

But I'll bet I could write a Story From Song Titles from both those albums.

I was trying "Physical Graffiti" by Led Zep, but I got stuck. Their song titles don't always make a lot of sense. I may still go for it, though. Even if I have to figure out how to work in Gaelic or Welsh or whatever that is.

And Mark, Joni is ALL about passion. All her songs are about passion. Passion may start out as purple, although I think of it as red-hot, but it can become blue very quickly, depending.

I can't remember if I wrote a story using all the songs from Jeff Buckley and "Grace," yet, but it's on my list if I haven't. So "Lilac Wine" will count as a purple song. Because it's sweet and heady, like his love. And he put his heart in its recipe. It made him see what he wants to see, and feel what he wants to feel.

Jeff is also all about passion.

Purple and Red-hot don't always turn to blue, sometimes they explode into White-hot.
Blue has so many negative connotations for me, most of my life I have tried to be, and stay, positive, in spite of some overwhelming obstacles.
Here I sit, living proof, that life does provide second chances.
