Subject: Thank God for Buddy Holly

This is about everything rock and roll from the 50's to the present, but that's only the beginning. Any poets out there? I have a couple of poems to share before too long. Misunderstood song lyrics are always a lot of fun. Favorite album cover art? Any wild or interesting concert experiences? Prefer Motown to rock? Jazz? Blues? You can share all of these things and much more here. Come one come all to the midnight ball! Let's do this!

Today is the birthday of Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. You have completely lost me, flopsy. I honestly have absolutely no idea what you are referring to. The only things that have been posted on this page so far have been a music video, a Saturday night live skit, and postings of people who somewhat resemble each other. Please let me know what you are talking about so I can avoid that in the future.

I don't think flopsy was referring to any comments of yours on this thread Kev. Perhaps flopsy was referencing the comments about a groping case that you were chatting about. I don't remember what thread it was on, I think you have a better memory about those things anyway.

I think you may very well be right, Mark. It was the case involving Cuba Gooding, Jr. That is just extremely bizarre. It must have gotten deleted because I've been looking for it for almost an hour and can't find it to save my life. Looked high and low on every blog and thread that I ever post on, which isn't a whole lot, but I've been going back two or three months on all of them and there is no possible way I made that post that long ago. I had no idea we were not supposed current court matters that had not yet been resolved. If these things are posted on the internet then they obviously are not some big secret. I know for a fact that I have seen other people posting things of this nature many times, a couple of them I remember specifically right off the top of my head, but I suppose I should just keep it to myself. Don't want to get anyone into trouble, though I'm sure they have been seen anyway.

Well, I suppose I should just stick to posting clips from old movies and TV shows that almost nobody pays any attention to, and the videos that almost nobody pays any attention to, and the cartoons that almost nobody pays any attention to, and the SNL skits that almost nobody pays any attention to until I get told one at a time that I can't post those any more. At the end of the day, Dixie + road = my merry little way. :-)

Thanks, Mark. Sorry about the delay, I have been having to stand in the corner for being naughty.

Yeah, that was kind of a funny thing about how this month started. I had been meaning to do something for the longest time but I kept forgetting until this month. I wanted to start out right at the very first minute of the month and play my best topic as fast as possible, just for the possibility of seeing my name in the #1 spot, even if just for a brief moment. Turned out somebody was faster on the draw and I started out at #2, but I kept hammering away and wound up winning 12. That was a first for me being the king of the hill like that, and it also took four whole days for me to fall off the Smarty Pants list even for the first time of the month. Never done that before as well. I also set a new personal world record with 13 wins the other day. I guess my brain really must be getting bigger and fatter just like the rest of me. :-)

Nah, it didn't. There is a thread that asks you what your favorite Chinese dish is and I just had the way wrong answer that someone decided they were just so terribly offended by after it had been there for more than a month. If that person had heard their favorite comedian make the same joke, I'm sure they would have been laughing it up and having a grand ol' time. I'm sure it wasn't really about what was said, but more about who said it. Anyway, we live and we learn.

Had time to watch much football this season, Mark? My Sooners have punched all comers in the mouth so far. Hope they can keep it up.

Yes, I watch all the College Football that I can. My Cincinnati Bearcats are having a good season as well, but they weren't fortunate enough to get invited into a Power Five Conference, so they have to content themselves with scraps.

Sure, we've seen people swear or say something controversial and not get punished. Sure, we've had our comments deleted for... silly... reasons. I guess if we want to keep staying here on this site, we have to keep our disgust or anger or frustration bottled inside and never, ever even think about letting it show.

This is about the time that I start backing up slowly and say, "It's GOOD you did that..." (Twilight Zone, anyone?)
Like I've said in the Haiku section, these feet have grown tired of stepping on eggshells.

Thanks, Jen. I know exactly what you are saying, but this has been a very gradual learning experience for me as far as communicating with people in an open-minded adult fashion without "rocking the boat" or "making waves" so to speak. One has to slip into a pretty narrow groove but it can be done, I am very confident of that.

Thank God for Buddy indeed, as well as all the others who helped to put rock and roll on the map permanently. Only the end of time itself will bring an end to rock and roll, and even then, its spirit will still exist in some other form for all eternity, just as its spirit has existed before time even began.

Your Sooners are currently ranked Number 5, just outside of the Top 4 that will battle for the National Championship. Nothing is set in stone as of yet, so plenty of time for your Sooners to push into the Top 4.
Meanwhile, my Bearcats are currently 21st in that same poll.

Yeah, my silly Sooners started the season at #4, won their first two games 49-31 and 70-14 and dropped to #5, won their next two 48-14 and 55-16 and dropped to #6, then won the next two and have finally skyrocketed back up to #5. I don't know what more they can do besides win their games, but maybe they need to come up with some new dance moves or something. That or maybe come up with some new plays like the Disco Duck and the Funky Chicken. :-p

If you ask my opinion (no one did), if anyone cares (no one does), we shouldn’t have to. The internet is massive, a huge and frightening place. I don’t know why the powers that be feel the need to protect children so much. They’re gonna see stuff a hundred times worse than anything that has ever been written here, that is a fact.
It’s the nitpicky stuff that really makes my head start spinning in protest, followed by some angry projectile vomiting. Some people simply have too much time on their hands.
What kills me is… what is one of the very first things, the line written in *bold* when you make a reply on Funtrivia? “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
I think that’s a good rule. If you go on a board talking about television, to a thread about the fictional TV show “Jenna’s Exorcism,” one would assume you are interested in the show. One would think you would make a comment about a recent episode, or perhaps ask a question about something you saw. Too many people go on the “Jenna’s Exorcism” and say things like, “This show is gross. I don’t like it. I don’t know why anyone would.” Yet they don’t get punished. But they’re not abiding by one of the biggest rules that Funtrivia enforces.

Would anyone put Clemson at #1? No, because they barely squeaked by UNC. Oklahoma just beat #11 Texas! LSU beat then-#9 Texas and #7 Florida. I tell myself that these teams will be good and tested should they reach the playoffs.
I look forward to when Alabama plays LSU, that should be a good watch. Some of the Alabama players might be surprised by that little number in front of LSU’s name. We’ll have to explain to them that that means they’re playing a team that is “ranked”. :p

I just hope Oklahoma can get by Baylor on November 16th at Baylor. That looks like it will probably be their toughest game.

Yeah, Alabama and LSU should be a war. I definitely don't want to miss that one. Hopefully one of them will boot the other one far enough out of the way to make room for Oklahoma to slip in there into the top 4. :-)

I don't know, this might be a pretty crazy prediction, but I really think it's going to come down to the Wimps, the Chumps, the Sissies and the Cowards in the playoffs. The Sissies have got that incredible she-fense going on with Percival Wimpfield at middle linebacker and Phillip Fruitstand in the strong safety spot. However, you've got the Wimps with that newly-developed Ballerina offense that is almost impossible to stop. Then there's the Chumps and the Cowards and the way that both of those teams have been busting out with some really amazing dance moves just all up and down the field every week. Should be pretty exciting to see how things develop. :-)
