Subject: Thank God for Buddy Holly

This is about everything rock and roll from the 50's to the present, but that's only the beginning. Any poets out there? I have a couple of poems to share before too long. Misunderstood song lyrics are always a lot of fun. Favorite album cover art? Any wild or interesting concert experiences? Prefer Motown to rock? Jazz? Blues? You can share all of these things and much more here. Come one come all to the midnight ball! Let's do this!

Yeah, Mark, I can't believe they lost to Kansas State. Pretty much ended their season. Even if they win out the rest of it, I seriously doubt they will make the top 4. Well, as long as somebody besides Alabama takes the championship.

I watch a lot of College Football, and right now, Ohio State looks like the best team.

Yeah, those pigskin pirates must have a pretty outstanding football program because they produce very outstanding teams every year for many decades now. They are pretty much always a tough team for most teams to beat.

I could not agree more. Anyone but Alabama. And Ohio State.

You never know! We've already seen some Top 10 teams get a loss, it could happen again.

Yeah, anything could happen in that crazy game at any level, especially when players start busting out with world class disco moves all up in da gridiron club. :-p Seriously, it really does seem like more and more crazy, unexpected stuff happens every year. One week you may have one team doing the Funky Chicken all up and down the field, and then the next week another team is doing the flippity-floppity Disco Duck in both end zones. Okay, I guess I better move on now. :-p

Just got reminded by one of my Duel quizzes of this groovy song from the 70s. I was a big studly "grown man" in junior high school when this tune busted out on the scene, and it was very popular among all the studly, popular grown men who were just way too cool for school. Here it is being performed LIVE in front of thousands of out of control maniacs....

I'm finally back on FT time again. Yippee! I guess it probably wouldn't make much difference one way or the other to most players, but it's really quite a bit more convenient for me to be on the same time as FT.

I could function just fine if we didn't have to adjust the time at all.

Here is a question for anyone who would like to respond. What is the best restaurant meal you ever had and what restaurant was it? No need to give the location if you would rather not.

As for me, the best restaurant meal I ever had was at a place called the Captain's Cabin in Norfolk, Virginia. I don't know if the meal had some particular name but it was basically steak and shrimp. It was the first time I had ever eaten steak that one could very easily cut up with a spoon. After the first bite I thought about the times I had heard of steaks that were so tender you could cut them with a spoon, so I tried it and sure enough, no problem at all. Wish I could afford to eat out like that on a fairly regular basis.

For me, the best restaurant meal ever, would take more than just the food and how much I enjoyed it. There's the company that you are dining with. Then there's the ambiance of the place you are dining. Then what about how hungry you are, that has something to do with how much you enjoy a meal? Bad service can ruin a great meal. A lot of things to consider.
All those things considered, perhaps my winner would be my son's college graduation meal at Montgomery Inn:The Boathouse for a slab of their ribs.

Yeah, you are right, there are a lot of factors involved with having the experience of a good meal in a nice place. I was basically just focusing on the quality of the food itself, certainly providing that you didn't have some kind of horrible service, because you are right about that, that kind of thing can just totally ruin what could have been a very enjoyable experience. I can't remember ever having what I would call bad service at a restaurant. Fast food places are a totally different story.

That's a really interesting question. I couldn't point to one particular meal and say that's the one to be honest.

When my wife and I first lived together fifteen years ago we rented a flat and we found a Mediterranean food restaurant on the high street not far from there that we loved sooo much. But even that, we don't really travel back there since we moved on.

Whats the situation with tipping in the US. Last time I went there the expectation was to tip. Is that because the staff do not earn a wage? Do they need the tips or have employee rights developed more since then.

Here in the UK there is no obligation to tip servers in restaurants, bars but that is probably because they are protected by employee rights such as minimum wage etc.

I'm really not sure what the reason is behind the tipping. I'm also not really sure how much waiters and waitresses make, I'm sure that probably varies. We also have a minimum wage that employers have to abide by, but I don't know what that is either. I just don't know much of anything on this particular topic, I'm afraid. :-(

I’m guessing somebody knows! ;)

Tonight I’m cooking two steaks with a creamy mushroom sauce. Probably not restaurant standard but looking forward to it!

TIP = To Insure Promptness
Wait staff are paid less than minimum wage here in the States.
The standard gratuity at most restaurants is 15% of the total bill. You may tip more or less depending on the level of service that you have received. The better restaurants will add 15% on the bill automatically, you have no choice.

Obviously, this only applies to the sit down restaurant, fast food or take out, does not apply.

Thanks for explaining. That is how I remember it but it’s ten years since the last time I visited the States!
