Thank you for the many fine suggestions of definitions to use in this endeavour. There are far too many; they have been reduced accordingly, some by combination with other and some by saving them for another day. Here are the definitions on which quizzes may be built:
Beat (n.) a notation of the rhythm of music, of its cadency, of its rate and measure. As in the Uncle Kracker-Dobie Gray song, it says "give me the beat, boys, and free my soul; I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away." As in Gloria Estefan's 1994 recording "Turn the Beat Around."

Beat (adj.) a genre of literature or a writer associated with that genre in the 1950s and early 1960s. The movement was typified by interest in Eastern religion and rejection of Western social values. Examples include Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and William Burroughs. This is not the same thing as beatniks but there was some crossover.

Beat (n.) to be exhausted, to have spent it all on a long day's work, to be worn out. As Gabby Hayes said in many B Western movies in the 30s and 40s, "I'm plumb tuckered out" which was the equivalent of being beat.

"Let there be sung Non nobis and Te Deum!" With the submission of 1nn1's quiz touching upon the human heart beat, I am as ebullient as King Henry V in Shakespeare's play. This quest which began so long ago (3 Aug 18), culminated with the submission of the last quiz of the 16 stimulated by the exercise.
