Subject: The Dusty Trail

Posted by: sadwings
Date: Jul 18 19

Any of you cowboys and cowgirls ever seen a dusty, unshaven bronco-buster nail the inside of a spittoon from 20 feet? Probably not all that impressive with all the tobacco-chewin' range bums we've got around these parts, but check this out - pppt….pppt….pppt….Ting! Tang! Ting! Three for three! :-)

Anyway, that's just a small part of the rip-roaring, wild west adventure just waiting for those of you who would like to saddle up and ride with us out on the Dusty Trail. We've got plenty of horses and trail gear for all comers, and we've even got a friendly, loyal, dependable dog named Happy who will take good care of us as we sleep beneath the stars and experience exciting wild west adventures every day. So whenever you'd like to take a little break from quizzing, just saddle up and ride along with us for a spell, partners! We'd love to have you along one and all! :-)

What modern machines are like I know not, I gave up biking in 1978...the last few months astride a BSA "Lightning" A65L 650, but the one in my post above was my favourite of those I owned.
In the 60's/70's most British made machines were simple to maintain, in fact you hardly needed to touch them from month to month....performance wise they lagged far behind the Japanese made bikes though. Like you I am no mechanic....never was and never will be.........so it went to dealers for maintenance.
Other than a Triumph Tiger Cub (200cc), all the machines I owned were BSA's..........tried out a Honda 175, couldn't get used to gears being on the opposite side!
Jen can probably tell you about modern bikes?

Goldurn predictive text added that 'S' to mechanic, got by me without me noticin. See, machines just laugh in my face! This here's as close a pitcher as I can find that looks like my horse Dakota. He's 50% Arab, 50% Appaloosa, 100% speed and stamina.

Do you know about bikes, Jen? I didn't know that. Are you a biker babe like Jo? :-)

Oho! I wonder if Rachel Sutherland knew what was happening when she accepted her position working on Lost Girl? That’s so funny, Jo!

Yes. Yes, sadwings, I feel like I would be thrown in jail should I ever witness someone abusing an animal right in front of me. I’m so sorry you had to see what you’ve seen, as it can never be unseen. I’m sure we wish it could be. I’ll just say, should we ever get charged, at least they can’t say it was premeditated!

One cool skill my “Amazon Echo” (AKA “Alexa”) has is an old-time radio show she’ll play for me. I just say “Alexa, open radio crime classics” and close my eyes and listen! She also has a radio suspense show. It’s good for my sister and I, since we both have eye problems it’s nice to rest them!

I’m afraid I am quite ignorant when it comes to bikes!

Wow, I have never heard of Amazon Echo but it sounds pretty cool.

Jen, you have a very good point about one not going down for premed murder in that kind of a situation. It may not even result in a murder charge, it may be involuntary manslaughter or something. I guess it would obviously depend on the case. I would certainly never want to take a person's life, but that is one set of circumstances where God only knows what might possibly happen.

However, I wanted to show you guys on film just exactly how I might lay into somebody who was abusing an animal, and this one particular scene from a Gunsmoke episode came to mind. There is this boy who is probably 18 to 20 years old or so, but he has the mind of probably a 7 or 8 year old, and he is out on the dusty trail with Festus. I guess they must be pretty far from town, I can't remember the circumstances, but ol' Festus has to rustle them up some grub so he shoots this rabbit. Well, the boy just completely freaks out and attacks Festus, I mean he lays into Festus like a 13 year old girl. Of course, Festus doesn't want to hurt the boy and he's kind of backing up and telling the boy to calm down and what not. It all happens pretty fast but Festus winds up getting knocked down and hits his head on a rock and knocks himself out.

Anyway, you know me and you know how I roll, the whole idea of me sharing this clip and comparing it to me if I laid into somebody was all just supposed to be for a laugh. If you knew me in person you would understand perfectly why it would be a pretty funny comparison. However, I could not find this particular Gunsmoke scene, but while I was looking for it, I found something else that I thought I would share with you cowpokes....

Okay, this is not working. Let me see if I can go find that thing again....

You know me - all whacked out and unpredictable. :-p

Yeah, that was pretty amazing how Matt outdrew and gunned his own self down. I guess it would take one really bad hombre to do something like that. :-p

Aww, I love you for saying all of this, sadwings! It warms my heart hearing (and reading about) people who are willing to protect animals. Thank you for giving a damn!

No biggie, Jen. Been that way all my life. Even when I was a little kid, I would never dream about being mean to an animal like a lot of the other kids. You know, just stuff like tossing cats up in the air just to see them land on their feet, for example. That seemed to be a pretty big thing with kids when I was a kid. All I ever wanted to do was just make friends with animals and make them happy. Think I must have gotten it from my mom, she is a big animal lover, especially cats, but she would do anything she could to help any animal that needed to be helped in some way.

Hey, Jen, this is me to the max after I have accomplished certain things around here. Things that are just easy, everyday stuff for a lot of these players, like when I won 50% of my Duels for the month very recently after trying for about a year.....

Makes me wonder where we get our love for animals from… my mom grew up with a raccoon as a pet, but she’s never been too “gaga” about pets. She’s not mean or anything, she just appreciates them a little differently. My dad complains about cats and such but in secret seems to love animals, as he has been there for my sisters and I when we lose a pet, even crying himself (not that he’d admit it!).

Haha, thank you for the good laugh! He delivers that line so well! I admit, I’m like that a lot too, that’s for sure!

Oh, man, I just love that guy, Jen. I'm a little demented myself in a quite harmless way, and I have played the fool many times, sometimes in front of quite large crowds, but I think ol' Chris had me beat. No way I would have ever been able to upstage that guy, in my opinion, but I know I could have written some great stuff for that guy. Talk about one of a kind! I just loved him in that Beverly Hills Ninja movie, too.

I don't know, partner, I think maybe I need to rustle up some more cowboy fun with maybe some more film clips from some old westerns and get this thing back on track again. I know how you are, Jen, don't you go thinking that any of that is your fault because it's not, that's all on me. I haven't been able to find a lot of stuff I had in mind, mostly stuff from old TV westerns, and I really need to put my thinking cap on here!

Ya know, partners, me and ol' Mark was talkin' about that Soylent Green movie the other day. I had only seen it once when I was about 10 or 12 or so, didn't really remember anything except the tail end of it. Well, I rustled up the trailer to that thing and took me a little look see at it just for fun, and I see this one part where Charlton Heston is slappin' Chuck Connors around. Can y'all believe that? Someone slappin' around on the Rifleman? I tell ol' Mark, I says, "Don't nobody go a-whuppin' up on the Rifleman!"

Well, I got to thinkin' about that a little later, and it suddenly dawned on me that I was wrong. There is one man, and only one man, who could ever beat up on the Rifleman - and he just happens to be none other than......the Rifleman! Got videotaped evidence of it right here...
