Subject: The Dusty Trail

Posted by: sadwings
Date: Jul 18 19

Any of you cowboys and cowgirls ever seen a dusty, unshaven bronco-buster nail the inside of a spittoon from 20 feet? Probably not all that impressive with all the tobacco-chewin' range bums we've got around these parts, but check this out - pppt….pppt….pppt….Ting! Tang! Ting! Three for three! :-)

Anyway, that's just a small part of the rip-roaring, wild west adventure just waiting for those of you who would like to saddle up and ride with us out on the Dusty Trail. We've got plenty of horses and trail gear for all comers, and we've even got a friendly, loyal, dependable dog named Happy who will take good care of us as we sleep beneath the stars and experience exciting wild west adventures every day. So whenever you'd like to take a little break from quizzing, just saddle up and ride along with us for a spell, partners! We'd love to have you along one and all! :-)

The secret to straight shootin is all about the breathin. You gotta relax, and make sure you got an iron that feels right in your hand. Here, try my Colt Trooper, see if it fits. Feel the weight, mold your hand around the grip and heft it around a little bit. If that don't feel like yours, try my Colt Diamondback, they're both .38's but they feel a little different. When you aim it should feel like you're just pointin with your hand, like that thing BELONGS to you. Breathe calm, nice and steady like, aim, and then hold your breath just afore you squeeze. Hey, nice, well done! You take your pick and keep hold of it for a while, I got spares.

Bit off thread.........or maybe not.........a true story:-

1963/64 I worked in armory at a navy base in Malta......as well as our weapons, some privately owned guns were kept there, among which belonging to Captain's Secretary (a Lieutenant) was a replica 1850 pattern Navy Colt.
The Lieutenant was going back to UK and wanted to use up ammunition and black powder before he went and invited me to have a go with it on pistol range.
The distance to target was around 10ft..........I took aim.........there came a loud BANG, and a cloud of black smoke. To this day I have absolutely NO idea where the ball went.......just know where it didn't go........the target was unmarked and still in pristine condition!

Ahh well................Lol

Heh heh! Good one, Mark! Mighty fine laugh I got outta that just now.

Well, one o' them Comanchero fellers filled me in on a little somethin' before he kicked the bucket. Them Ruffian boys caught wind of us a-huntin' 'em down, so they rounded up some reinforcements and now they're a-comin' after us. It's just about sunup now. If I got them boys figured right, they'll be wantin' to attack soon, and they got the crazy idea that I'm Josey Wales, so there's probably gonna be a big bunch of 'em.

Can you believe that? Me bein' Josey Wales? Heh heh heh! Pppt….TING! Well, I reckon it don't come as no surprise, seein' as how I look like him, walk like him, talk like him, ride and shoot like him, and just like Josey, I ain't a hard man to track seein' as how I leave dead men wherever I go. Sometimes trouble just follows a man, and there's always gotta be fools out there lookin' to make a name for themselves. Anyway, I'm about to ride up over the ridge and see if I can spot anything. If y'all hear someone shout out "Josey Wales" and then see a bunch of riders come up and surround me, well, I reckon y'all know what to do. We play this thing right and we won't have to worry about takin' them Ruffian boys in after all. Ain't even got to worry about buryin' 'em. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms. I reckon so.....

Got great news for those of you who don't already know. Looks like our friend Elle is back in town. Caught a glimpse of her when I was ridin' past the Duel arena on the way back.

You're not alone, I'm here with John Wayne's horse Dollor, ready to back you up Josey. Gather round, all those that have the gumption to battle them varmints.
Let's get ready to rumble!

I have sourdough starter, and I know how to keep it alive, even on a cold winter night. I also know how to kill it, making me doubly-deadly. And, I'm armed with more than that, so you might want to sleep with one eye open tonight, Pards.

I'll steal your horses, and I'll rob your... that doesn't sound right. Hold on.

"But when things get too confusing, Honey
You're better off in bed
And I'll be searching all the joints in town for
Panama Red"

(He'll steal your woman, then he'll rob your head)

Hi-ho, Mescalito! :-) Glad to finally have you back, Elle. I don't know what kind of awful stuff that was that kept you down for a while, but it looks like you rose up and beat it down to the ground. Looks like you are just as sharp as ever as well. I saw some of the scores you were putting up over there in the Duel arena. You were really kicking butt and taking names over there.

You just missed out on us taking out the Ruffian gang and all of their cohorts a few posts back, but the most important thing is that you are back with us to ride around the dusty trails on our horsies and shoot it out with bad guys and all that fun and exciting wild west stuff.

Remember all that fun we had with "Sheriff Dorkus" and all that? Hee hee! Well, I heard there is a new movie that just came out that they are showing over at the Longhorn Movie House - "Dorkus Rides Again!" :-)

It just dawned on me, Mark, when I said "I'm all alone now....or am I?" that was just in reference to Captain Redlegs when he told Josey "You're all alone now.....Wales." I knew you guys would never abandon me.

Anyway, I figure we got three ways to go about doin' what we gotta do right now. We can either dig a bunch of graves for them there bodies, we can load 'em up on the wagon and haul 'em over to the big field beyond the south ridge and set fire to 'em, or we can just move on and let the buzzards around here get nice and fat. As for me, I kind of like it here. We got us a right cozy spot here. Got lots of antelope, got plenty of space to grow vegetables and raise cattle, and I already went and made myself blood brothers with Ten Bears. He ain't gonna be goin' nowhere anytime soon, and y'all know he's the man in charge of this territory right now. Y'all take a vote on it. Meantime, I reckon I'll head into town and pick up a few supplies...

Honey, you don't want to know what kind of awful stuff has kept me down and out for so long. You really do not. But I am happy as two hogs in mud to be back!

I think I had best go to Page 1 and read all about the goin's on in these here parts before I even think about baking those biscuits, though. I kind of just jumped right into the middle of this fray. Sorry about that.

But my Sourdough Biscuits can soothe anything that even thinks it might be savage. Add some butter and huckleberry jam, and you'll be down on one knee, begging for my hand. But forget that, I need both of them.

Reckon it's a good thing you joined us when you did, Elle. Had me a little trouble in town and had to ditch the supplies I had. Got it right here on film iffen any of y'all want to check it out. Some folks just don't know when to pull their pistols or whistle Dixie....

Oh My God! It's Josey Wales!

Wasn't that little dude in "Deadwood," too? Probably not, but he sure looks like one of them.

Now I have to know...

You got my curiosity up with that one, Elle. I was thinking he may very well have been, but I looked up the Deadwood cast and didn't see him there. He has been in a number of other Clint Eastwood movies, and God knows what else. I'm really not familiar with that guy's work as a whole.

It's really interesting if you scrutinize the cast members of Eastwood's films - not just the westerns but all of them - you'll see the same actors popping up again and again and again. I guess it's probably a fairly common thing for actors who have made a name for themselves to want to work with the same people as much as possible. Makes sense.

Anyway, listen to me talking as if I'm halfway educated or something. I'm just a steer-ropin', bronco-bustin', tobacco-chewin' country boy! Pppt….TING! :-)
