Rikki had never met Cleo or Emma. Their friendship and trust in one another began after Rikki had stolen Zane's boat after he had tricked Cleo onto it. As she could not swim, he pushed the boat out onto the water and she got trapped. Rikki then ran up, jumped on and was able to restart Zane's boat. Rikki soaked Zane when they sped off onto the water before meeting Emma, who Cleo asked, "Do you want a ride?". Emma then said, "Are you licensed?" which was followed by Rikki answering, "Are you my mother?".

The joke was on Rikki, for Lewis quickly figured out what she was up to, and forcefully kept his cool to try to freak Rikki out. Cleo finally talked Lewis into staging an angry outburst to let Rikki think she had won.

What was truly beautiful about this scene is what followed. Rikki knew that Lewis loved Cleo, even if he was unwilling to admit it. So once again, she nudges him toward Cleo by saying that the locket meant a lot to Cleo, and that got his interest. You might say she was using him, but in a good way.

Author's note: Cleo and Lewis are my favourite couple. I've got a soft spot for childhood couples who've grown up together. I attended such a wedding once: the proposal was made at age 9, accepted, honoured, and they married at age 24.

Cleo jumps in after her and tries to save her and Bella jumps in too and to Cleo's surprise is a mermaid too. They go after Rikki and save her from the tentacle. The next day they decide to become friends and help each other.

But in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Cleo accidentally splashes some water in Rikki's face and she already is a mermaid after 3 seconds.

Rikki was to be at work at precisely 7:25am. When she walked in at 7:31:10, the first thing Emma could say was, "You're six minutes and ten seconds late."
Rikki perceived that it was like she was back in elementary school and responded with this great sarcastic line.

It was just before moonrise, and Will had stopped by to speak with Bella. She quickly stepped outside with him. When Lewis stammered, "Does she even realize what we're trying to do here?" Rikki, standing there with her arms folded, said, "She loses it every time he's around. I've never known anyone so reckless."
Now at that moment, Cleo turned to look at Rikki - a gesture to the word "reckless". Rikki, seeing her look, and before Cleo could say anything, retorted, "What?"
I always felt that what made Rikki so cute in the first two seasons was her playfulness. Being the "manageress" of the new JuiceNet, now her namesake, and now the water-tentacle situation, made Rikki a lot more serious in Season 3.
What I was very impressed with was a unique kind of relationship with Rikki and Will. He loves Rikki not as a girlfriend, but as his heroine - the sister he doesn't have in Sophie.
