Believe it or not, Judy was studying for a career in musical comedy. Her brother Will graduated from a prestigious science school at the age of nine, and sister Penny had an IQ of 127. In the 2003 movie, the ship that launched was the Jupiter 1. When the Jupiter 1 reached orbit, its outer shell broke away to reveal the Jupiter 2 inside.

More than likely, they changed the amount of time it would take because the narrator of the pilot episode said that the ship would be traveling at near the speed of light for 98 years. 98 years at the speed of light would have put them way past Alpha Centauri.
